  1. Sometimes guys just lose it. Although it’s more likely he reverts to a 4.0 WAR player. The aberration was 2010.
  2. Why offer arby on Ortiz?
  3. The Braves have Bourn and don't need a center fielder. They also don't want to take on expensive players and will probably trade Jurgens this year. They won't give up Heyward, especially after a down year. The Mariners would want young controllable players if they ever traded Felix, not guys two years from FA. Unless the Sox could spin Ellsbury for prospects and package them. But it would take a HAUL to get Felix.
  4. IIRC, it adds half a run to come to the AL. Quality pitchers will be fine in either league. Zambrano is a head case. Stay away. The Mets look to be aiming for contending in 13 or 14. They may be willing to listen to offers for Dickey. He's signed to a cheap contract, is a knuckleballer, and may be available for some decent minor league prospects. He's gone against the Yankees, and he has AL experience. His era over the last two years is something like 3.08.
  5. I live in San Francisco. Lincecum is arguably the face of the franchise and his picture is all over billboards. They're not trading him.
  6. IMO teams that try and dig out of a hole by signing more FAs are going to find themselves in a death spiral. Put the money into the draft and trade some of those guys for younger guys about to become more expensive. You want pitching, take a chance on either Hanson or JJ from the Braves. Both good arms, but injury risks. Odds are the Braves need to trade one since they're entering more expensive years. They'll cost prospects, but should be available. Cain from the Giants is a FA in a year. I'm not sure they would trade him, but they can't sign everybody and they need hitting. He wouldn't be cheap, though.
  7. How is Ellsbury who was buried in the doghouse last year a sure thing and Lincecum who has rings and shiny pitching trophies not?
  8. Of course they could afford it. I think Bay and Crawford make about the same for the next two years, so payroll wouldn't change. After that, it's a question of how much cash the Red Sox would have to kick in.
  9. I don't know, but they're not happy with him and Crawford fits their ballpark. How much cash goes back would be a big sticking point. Bay came on at the end of the year and they're lowering the fences. But Sandy still wants him gone.
  10. Pitching is what built their championship. They're not given up Lincecum. They have money, so they may resign Beltran, and maybe another hitter. They'll get Posey back, but really, their championship was half fluke.
  11. I can't even begin to imagine what they would want for him.
  12. Giants never make that deal.
  13. What about trading Crawford back for Bay plus pay half the out years in the contract? ie, the four years that Crawford is owed money that Bay is not. Both players may need a change of scenery and Bay was good in Boston.
  14. I think 2/20 with an option for a third year vesting at 500 PAs would be a good deal. The dude can still hit.
  15. Let's put that $6 million another way, plus the revenue surge by going deeper into the playoffs or winning a WS. How much in prospects, either IFA's or overslots can that sign?
  16. AND $6 million dollars.
  17. Sandy has moved from iffy on moving Reyes to a flat no. Sandy is no nonsense who will state where he is coming from. If you disagree, he moves on, unlike Omar who would give fifty different answers. And I think the article means to state they are looking at all five guys of which they get ONE of them back. They said they expect to get one very good player back and another piece.
  18. Sounds like Beltran will move after the game tonight. The Phillies had all their scouts at the game and I wouldn't be surprised if they take three players. He hit another homer last night and his ops is 920 in a down year for offense. He could be in the MVP picture if he puts up big numbers for Philly in that bandbox. Although here is a tidbit from the Post The Mets are heavily scouting the Red Sox minor leagues. Names mentioned include outfielders Josh Reddick, who has stepped into right-field as J.D. Drew struggles, Ryan Kalish and pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/amazin_author_angel_ic_ending_HacwVQS2tIu9M8Vu78PTwN
  19. Beltran's knees and contract are why he didn't get traded in the spring. That really doesn't apply right now. And from what I know about Sandy, he would sell his mother to the glue factory, to buy an extra prospect. He wouldn't bat an eye dealing with the Phillies or Braves.
  20. You’re neglecting the Mets pay his salary part of the equation. Money matters in these things. Money can be used to sign more overslots and avoid the luxury tax. Money lures other teams into the bidding. Yes, the playoffs are a crapshoot, but the odds are not the same for every team. Kazmir was a top ten prospect while Zambrano was already injured at the time of the trade. Tampa never disclosed that fact and the Mets should have filed a grievance. I think the reason they didn’t so is it would have made their FO look stupid for not requesting a medical exam. Even so, that trade was boneheaded for a couple of reasons. Zambrano wasn’t that good, and neither were the Mets even if it had worked out.
  21. Philly not only has a hole in right, they need somebody who can hit lefties. Carlos can do that, although his splits are a bit off this year. Otherwise they get exposed in the playoffs. They have a window. They don't want to lose it for a prospect.
  22. The guy is doing well, but he'll be 22 in September and he's in A ball. And he's had an injury history. That's not the guy you let stand in the way of another title. With Beltran, the Sox are the odds on favorites. And do you want to face Halladay, Lee, and Hamels, with Beltran in right field for the Sox, or the Phillies?
