What are the odds the Sox go for Crawford and then trade Ellsbury for a RH bat?

If it takes 8 years 180M, none.

If he will sign for considerably less, maybe. But whoever loses out on Lee will be desperate, so I don't see him getting less the Werth, and that might even be to much.

I thought I saw a comment recently by Terry Francona saying that Ellsbury was still feeling pain in his ribs. If this is the case' date=' I'd say high (assuming they can find a trade partner).[/quote']

If that's the case, it's doubtful he could pass a physical to make a trade happen.

Kevin Gregg is drawing strong interest on potential multiyear deals and has offers from the Red Sox, Pirates, and Nationals, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports

meh...Doesn't he cost a 1st rounder? I hope it's less then Benoit got.

That's true...unless the Red Sox can stipulate that their own doctors get to do the physical.

Nah. He's a type B. I still would rather see them focus on Fuentes and Guerrier, but we wouldn't have to give up our 1st rounder.

From the reports, it sounds like the Werth deal really didn't help Crawford much. Just because one guy was unreasonably overpaid for, it doesn't mean other teams would do the same thing. The only teams I've heard of with interest are the Angels/Sox/Tigers/Yankees, but if the tigers get Ordonez they may be out, and would Crawford really be that much of a replacement for the Yankees? Swisher/Granderson are pretty solid on both sides of the ball, and Gardner is cost controlled, still entering his prime, and just as fast. He just doesn't seem like a fit there at all.

So really, it just depends on what the Angels are willing to do.

Wow, don't those sound like teams you'd like to play on? He's pretty meh, let the pirates overpay for him.

I'd rather give Lee 6/150 than crawford 8/160

If they go another big move I hope its for Lee

The red Sox aquiring Lee f***s up the Yankees in so many ways , not to mention he has their number

I have a feeling they're going to come away with Beltre and Crawford. Crawford makes a lot of sense for them given his style of play, and after hearing Scioscia's comments on his 3B situation today, I think they'll be in on Beltre.

Angels GM Tony Reagins tells Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times that the Angels are not the mystery team that has offered Lee seven years.

Ok, not the Angels. Starting to run out of suitors.

4:36pm: Like the Reds and Phillies, the Red Sox have some interest in Arthur Rhodes, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The lefty does not appear to be close to deciding on his next team.
Noooo, this guy is like 100 years old and he chokes every time he faces the Yankees. Let him play in some senior league.

Possibly the Nationals? Ive been reading that they are in on the Lee sweepstakes. And Crawford won't be on the Red Sox if he's gonna be demanding the 8 years that he wants theres no way the Sox will sign him to that kind of a contract. If he'll take 6 or 7 years then I'd say the Sox would take him.

He's been great the last few years though.

Red Sox among teams that have requested medicals on free-agent C Russell Martin, according to baseball source. No offer, but sides to talk [via Twitter]

I think he's worth a shot. They could carry all 3 Catchers on the roster is Martin can step in at 3B once a week.

The money being bandied about in the media for Crawford ($180 mil) looks excessive. He'll probably get somewhere between Werth and AdGon money--closer to Werth. Werth and Crawford will probably be more overpaid than AdGon' date=' in terms of value. The Werth contract is out of whack, and will make the Crawford deal out of whack. The Sox are lucky they aren't players.[/quote']

Crawford doesn't hit enough round trippers to justify anywhere near $180mil.

The Yankees are on the verge of making Lee a lucrative offer and are awaiting the go-ahead from Braunecker, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com. GM Brian Cashman says he's ready to get serious.

Things seems to be really heating up with Lee.

The Rangers are gauging interest in Young and willing to pay a small portion of his salary, according to Rosenthal.

Looks like the Rangers are trying to clear money. Probably to up their offer for Lee. And an eventual Hamilton extension.

which makes me think it is a bogus report. If it isnt the Nats and it isnt the Angels, then who is it? Maybe it's the Yankees, who knows

It was reported it wasn't the Yankees either. Seems to be a phantom offer. But it seems to have done the trick and has kicked things into gear it would seem.

Diamondbacks Sign J.J. Putz

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 7 at 7:12pm CST]

The Diamondbacks signed J.J. Putz to a two-year, $10MM deal with an option for 2013. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter links), MLB.com's Steve Gilbert and Jon Heyman of SI.com all reported on the deal, which is official now that the reliever passed his physical. Putz earns $4MM in 2011, $4.5MM in 2012 and either $6.5MM or a $1.5MM buyout in 2013, according to Rosenthal. LSW Baseball represents Putz, who posted a 2.83 ERA with 10.8 K/9 in 54 innings last year.

Cliff Lee to announce team he's signing with on TV special. The Decision: The Sequel. Check your local TV listings.

Gordon Ede's said this on Twitter.

If he's right I guess that means Lee already chose who he's signing with, and if he's going to have a freakin TV special on it then it I have a bad feeling.

Yeah, figures. With the way athletes are nowadays though I wouldn't be surprised if he did that, and more of them did.
