Maybe it's the Red Sox.

Apparently Yankees wouldn't go past 6 and the 161 mil offered to CC.

Sox interested in Downs, Balfour, Guerrier, and Feliciano. Sounds like they want to wait a bit after Benoit's huge deal.

Taylor Buholz was non tendered as well. Not exactly sure why they made the trade. But there is most certainly a reason. Whether we learn about it or not is unknown.

You took a chance... You traded for him and thought he'd accept a good deal to play for a winning team but he didn't want to play for nothing. It was a low risk, high reward type deal.

NWIH the Sox offered him 7 year . This could be a plant by the Agent to get someone to cough up a few million extra n their 6 year offers.

Pretty much.

Dude, it's Heyman. Now, I'm not in the "don't believe anything Heyman says" boat, but he is widely acknowledged as Boras's mouthpiece at this time of year. Color me skeptical of this 7-year deal that "isn't the Yankees". This is Boras 101, he's trying to get them to jump, IMO.

Rumours red sox are talking to c.beltran
I like that. Of course, if they get Beltran, who is my # 1 choice on the RH hitter poll, I'll still hate Theo, because I don't like his kind, whatever kind that is.:lol::rolleyes:

Normally I'd agree, except it's not just him. There have been various other reports, from other reporters, that the Yankees are unwilling to go past six years. It seems to fit.

On that note, I do hope I'm wrong. Seven years is too much for Cliff Lee, but considering the current state of the Yankees' rotation, he's important, and I hope the Yankees do what it takes to sign him.

Red Sox Considering Carlos Beltran?

By Tim Dierkes [December 7 at 12:20pm CST]

The Red Sox are "at least talking internally" about a Carlos Beltran trade with the Mets, reports ESPN's Adam Rubin. There is no potential deal at this point. The Sox consider Beltran a secondary option if other outfield alternatives fall apart, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Beltran is set to earn $18.5MM in 2011, the last year of his seven-year deal, and he cannot be offered arbitration when the season ends.

Are Adam Rubin and Joel Sherman also Boras' mouthpieces?

What does that have to do with what I posted?

Lee's agent is Boras? Or are you just saying this is a "Boras" type move that Lee's agent is pulling?

I'm saying it's made up, like the 6-year deal Damon had on the table was back in '05. It's phony, and this is a common Boras tactic.

I don't think so. According to the MLB trade rumors site, it wasn't the Yankees that offered Lee the 7th year. It also says that the Nats didn't make the offer either.:dunno:

Although Lee is a hell of a pitcher, you'd have to be on crack to give Lee a 7th year when he's in his 30s already. And as much as I hate Cashman and the Yanks, they can't be that stupid or desperate. Quite the predicament....

The Yankees will do whatever it takes. Hell, they're paying ARod 'till he's 45.

Lee can do one thing: he can go into Yankee Stadium and beat the Yankees without raising a sweat. He's worth it just for that. Texas should do what it takes.

If it was an offer from the Yankees, they'd have got him by now. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Nats.

I thought his agent was Boras. It's not?

The Red Sox could raise the drama level a ton by getting into the Lee sweeps. Beltre' date=' too. The least they'll do is drive up the price.[/quote']

Lee and Beltre?

+ Beltran, Lee.

Hmm....

That's 30+ million right there, even if you swap bad contracts. Not enough payroll flexibility unless the Mets eat some money, and then how do you fix the bullpen?

I think we can forget about the Lee-Daisuke thing. Matsuzaka is here for the life of his contract. As he's not nearly as terrible a pitcher as he gets accused of being here, I have little problem with this

Simple answer. You spend more money.

38 year old Lee making 20M+, doh!

I'll pass on Lee. Maybe if it was 5 years and they where trading Lackey.

I'm his biggest supporter, and I think he'll have a big season, especially with Farrell gone. But Cliff Lee is who he is.

You're smarter than that. You know they're operating trying to avoid hitting the luxury tax. The Red Sox are not the Yankees. You could get Lee and another player, but Lee + Beltran at Beltran's price doesn't make sense.

If the Sox wanted Beltre, all they have to do is say the word and name a reasonable price. Right now, the market for Beltre is essentially the Sox and the Angels. And not really the Sox.

121 for 2011, even without arb raises.
