A friend of mine had the following idea. At first, I thought it was crazy, but on second thought... Instead of getting Crawford or Werth, resign Beltre. The infield defense will stay awesome. Put youk in LF. He should be fine in Fenway. In some of the bigger left fields 9especially against left handed pitchers), Youk can DH and Cameron can play LF. That should be about 20-25 road games. What do you think?

I have heard that Gonzo could play in the Outfield. So what if you resign Beltre and put Gonzo in left and Youk still at First. Gonzo has a very good arm. And With a Very fast CF in Ells he can cover some of the room Gonzo gives up.

Id rather just sign Werth and have him in left field. In the past when Youk played in the outfield he seemed lost out there at times and while Youk is a downgrade from Beltre I don't think Youk is THAT bad at 3B defensively.

I think that we'd be f***** ourselves by putting Youkilis in LF, even if it is to retain Beltre. I'd give Youkilis credit for being a team player and being willing to move around, but at this point I think we should let Beltre go for the draft picks. I'd have said differently if we didn't pick up Ortiz's option or if we didn't trade for Gonzalez.

I'd rather sign Werth and have Drew in left field. :)

Fine with me, I don't care if Werth plays left or right (although he has a pretty good arm, so right probably makes more sense). I just don't want to see Youk (has looked lost in the outfield) or Gonzalez (1 career game in the outfield as a major leaguer) starting in the outfield.

deadline on gonzalez negotiations is only 2 pm Sunday. 21 hours to go. better hustle. (still be shocked if it doesnt get done)

I don't like that at all and I'm glad the organization won't even contemplate it.
He said that he read about it somewhere. I don't know if it had been a consideration.

The thought had crossed my mind. But then I shuddered when I thought what it was like watching Youk play LF awhile back. No thanks. The need a RHH OF bat. And a couple BP pieces and be done with it.

I wonder if they are considering Magglio if Werth's price won't come down. Pretty much guarantee Werth going to Detroit and the Sox losing out on picks though.

I really don't think Theo and Co. are dumb enough to put a 32 year old corner infielder in LF.

St. Louis is putting Berkman in LF . Idiots.

True. At least the guy has tons of experience out there.

Berkman has a creeky knee. If it flairs up he will be a statue in the OF.

Same. I don't want Youk playing LF. Last time I remember Youk playing left field was two seasons ago in New York. Didn't turn out to well..
I remember that, but he went out there with almost no preparation. Maybe beltre could play LF. He runs all the way out into LF to demolish the OFers.

Beltre just doesn't make sense. Werth gives more production offensively--significantly if Beltre regresses as I expect him to-- and will cost about the same, so why waste a plus defender in LF if he can't handle it? Plus, Youk would neither be happy, or mechanically sound to field the position well for too long. I think his career UZR/150 is -100 or something ridiculous like that.

Ordonez looks like he might be going back to Detroit. I'm a little afraid Detroit wants them both, but Ordonez fills the same role as a big RH bat in RF for much cheaper.

Well the offense will certainly not be a problem in 2011 if we can get Werth. This pitching staff will need to come up big,Lester cant have his slow april start and Beckett needs to start pitching better with the money that he's getting!

I could understand putting Beltre out in LF if we didn't have options but that would be just dumb because we do. If we don't make a push for Werth then it's understandable....sort of.

Ellsbury would have issues with Beltre in LF to say the least

Is Werth worth $4-5 million more than Beltre per year?

True. What about Beltran for one season? He's got all the tools plus he is a switch hitter.

I'm going to get a lot of s*** from this but f*** it. Yes.
Maybe some others will give you s***. I'm just batting around ideas. I'm starting to like Beltran from the Mets for one season and using the long term money for Lee. They could use Dice k (I hate that prima dona from the far east) to get Beltran.

Why are you so against getting Jayson Werth? He's there, he's available, he's interested, he's solid on both sides of the ball, etc.,

Perfect fit, IMO.

I was alright with Beltran being in LF for 2011. But it won't be for Dice-K. He's only waiving his NTC for a team closer to home. So west coast or bust for him.

I'm only against him if it takes a Holliday type deal to sign him. If it's closer to Bay's deal I'm more then ok with it.
