LOL

3 of the top 10 are releivers on that list... that's how credible that list is

the metric SUCKS on this one

Really. And where is The King?

Even though some of the names on the list may seem farfetched, the predictions at the top have been very accurate, from 2002-2009 ether the first or second predicted pitcher in both the AL and NL have won the Cy Young, aside from last year when Tim Lincecum was the 4th predicted for the NL

Not only that, none of the 3 relievers are Mo.

That's ridiculous. Mo is having an epic year.

He is, but he isnt being used enough for CY contention, IMO. A lot of weight goes into workload, wins and team success

He needs to maintain or lower his ERA, Felix maybe to fall off a bit and CC and Price to fall off and/or stay about where they are now. If he keeps this up, I think he has better than an outside shot now.

Buchholz now has 2nd lowest ERA in all of baseball, yep its better then josh Johnson, Roy Halladay, Jimenez, Sabathia, wainwright, all while pitching in AL East

It sucks to see Clay and Lester to both be in consideration......and know that if they got ANYTHING out of Beckett and Lackey.....we would be having an awesome year. Dicek....while overpaid puts up better numbers than other #4's and #5's in the league.

Had Beckett or Lackey produced, we may have tried to fix the bullpen at the deadline.

Buchholz IP: 152.2 2.53 ERA

Compared to...

Johnson: IP: 183.2 2.30 ERA

Halladay: IP: 228.2 2.44 ERA

Wainwright IP:208.1 2.38

As much as I like Clay, his stats are worst than those pitchers. When it's all set and done I think that Sabathia will win the award with and Clay coming third or fourth.

NL stats are irrelevant to Buchholz getting CY votes.

He was stating that Clay was having a better season then them.

Still however,

Player A 219.1 IP 2.30 ERA 209 K

Player B 152.2 IP 2.53 ERA 104 K

Player A is Felix. Player B is Buchholtz.

This is a dead discussion and has been for weeks. A nice season does not equal Cy Young contention.

Agree. If Clay were not part of our team, wed hardly be mentioning him for Cy Young talks.

Totally agreed.

I haven't read a lot of Trevor Cahill for Cy Young discussion hear this year.

That's not to say Buchholz hasn't been good or won't be good. He's going to be a tremendous pitcher IMO and hopefully this won't be his only Cy Young-esque season. It has just been a bit overblown on this site.

a couple starts ago he was one of the leading contenders for cy young. but things have changed quite a bit since then

The guy who should win it and the guy who does is typically pretty far apart. I know that most people dont like wins for a pitcher in terms of evaluating their merit, but they are important when considering CY votes.

Jon Lester has the potential to be a truly dominant pitcher for a long, long time. Here's a quote from an article at MLB that puts his performance today (vs. Seattle) and his season into perspective:

There were also some elements of history for Lester in this one. By bumping his strikeout total to 209, Lester joined Cy Young, Smokey Joe Wood, Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez as the only Sox pitchers to reach the 200-K plateau in successive seasons.

It was Lester's fourth consecutive game with 10-plus strikeouts, the longest streak by a Major League pitcher this season. The last pitcher to reel off that many double-digit punchout games in a row? Jake Peavy, who did it for the Padres from April 25-May 11, 2007. Nobody in the AL had achieved it since Johan Santana had five straight in '04. And the last Sox pitcher to do it was Martinez, who had a five-gamer in '01.

Lester is the first southpaw in Red Sox history to have as many as four straight 10-K games.
