Not really. They take someone with 21 wins and 2.5 ERA and 180 k over a guy with 18-3-250. They like the best record and ERA over Ks imo.

I remember in around 2004 Randy Johnson had very nice stats aside from a 14-14 record or something like that. He could easily have won the award if it wasn't for his record. I think the D-Backs were awful that year too, maybe that was the year they lost 111 games.

 

I think there was a year when Santana lost to Colon and only had 16 wins but was a vastly superior pitcher that year. They severely overrate win-loss record.

If it's relatively close in ERA and wins, they'll definitely take higher strikeout numbers. See: Lincecum vs. Carpenter/Wainwright, Johan vs. Lincecum, etc. Buch's also got far fewer IP than CC or Price, and similar wins.

yeah, i don't think buchholz will win it either but it's a lot of fun to watch him pitch and he'll have plenty of other chances to win one over his career

As Dojji mentioned ERA is third in importance, look at ESPN CY Young Predictor and you'll see Sabathia is the favorite to win at this point.
