C.C. has a lot of pressure on him tonite. This is really the only night where the matchup favors the Yankees. If the Sox win this, they have an excellent chance of winning the series.

A-Rod injured during BP

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff August 7, 2010 01:58 PM

Alex Rodriguez was at third base in batting practice a few minutes ago when he was struck in the left leg by a ball hit by Lance Berkman.

Limping badly, Rodriguez made his way behind the screen behind second base and collapsed to the grass. He was then escorted off the field by team medical personnel.

No word on his status yet.

As much as I dislike A-Rod, I'd prefer to have him in the line-up when the Sox beat the Yankees.

UPDATE, 2:30 p.m.: A-Rod is out of the lineup with what the Yankees are saying is a contusion on his lower left leg. Ramiro Pena the new third baseman.

Rodriguez will get X-rays soon. A team spokesman described A-Rod's leg as being "tender and swollen." The ball hit him in the lower part of the shin.

Derek Jeter said he thought the ball bounced. Jeter was laughing as he watched Rodriguez stagger across the field. "He always does that when he gets hit," Jeter said.

UPDATE, 2:53 p.m.: Berkman has not exactly endeared himself to Yankees fans so far. He's 2 for 19 since the trade from Houston with one RBI in five games. Now he's knocked out A-Rod out of at least one game.

"It's my contribution to the Yankees so far — not the greatest," he said. "I just remember hitting it and cringing, because it was headed right for him ... I hit it hard, so I hope he's not out very long."

I find it hard to really think about Berkman at all. I don't even care if he's good or not, I just feel nothing about the man. For some reason Topps decided to include him in the lavish Sterling cards, and they are not exactly being snapped up at ebay.

Couldn't disagree more to be honest with you. CC just needs to go out and do his job. The pressure is on Lackey. He's been a notch above mediocre this year. He absolutely has to come out with a great game this afternoon, this is where he needs to earn his money. Realistically, this is the game to steal, and it has to start with a great 7/8 innings from Lackey.

IMO Lackey pitches well, we win the game.

FOX completely shameless with showing the bad side of the rivalry' date=' of course.[/quote']

It makes me sick. Good luck to myself and all of you at being able to stomach this broadcast.

Everything always seems to revolve around A-roid. I hate talking about this clown.

Negative talk about him is a good thing though.:D

I can't watch because I have to leave for work, ironically, also at a baseball game (just AA)
