I have been championing Clay as an Ace. Today will lend further credence to my contention that Clay is no longer a good pitcher with high upside.. He is a legitimate stopper. This is the game that Aces who want to be GREAT, do not lose. I am looking forward to seeing Clay top last year's Cy Young winner and in the process, start a lengthy Sox win streak.

He's got almost exactly the same peripherals as last season. WHIP 1.38 to 1.40. K/9 of 6.6 per 9 to 7 per 9. The only significant peripheral that he has changed is his HR allowed (from 1.2/9IP to 0.5/9IP). Is that significant enough to drop an ERA 1.14 points? He's due for a correction, although he'll still be very good assuming he plugs along at the same level. But ace? Not yet Jim Ed. He might get there, he's got great stuff, but he isnt an ace yet.

He is bulding a nice resume.;) I think I need to see him win over a longer period...but to have the most wins in MLB since last July 19th is really impressive.

It is, no doubt. He is a good pitcher, and he is becoming a better one. But with most solid pitchers, they typically dont start out guns blazing. This really is his first full season in the bigs

I just watched a recap of the 04 season on MLB network and now I have goosebumps.

Holy crap, a GT that hasn't eclipsed the first page!

Great outing from Buchholz, glad he showed up as the offense was completely dead.

It's looking like Beckett may end up being our 3rd or even 4th best starter this year (if Lackey can get in a groove).

Woah-- absolutely dead here tonite. Has anyone noticed that 9 of the top 12 pitchers from the AL are East teams?

Maybe it's because it's the Royals, but Grienke vs Buchholz was a good matchup.

Dammit. I ALWAYS mix the two up. God forbid labor day fall in the same month as international worker's day!
How could you mix up the two? Labor Day always means the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the start of a new school year.

Whoo boy. You're right. Only Yankee pitchers like Hughes can ever be considered for acehood. Obviously Hughes or Buch haven't reached acehood just yet... but you usually are the one that has to be toweled down when it comes to the subject of Yankee young guns.

It's labor day weekend against the Royals - makes sense that no one's around.
