He missed today's game and will miss tomorrow's as well. He is slated to return on Tuesday if everything goes well. Allows us a chance to rest ARod and Jeter. My bet is that Jeter is the DH tomorrow with Pena playing SS

one of the softest players I've ever seen - watched him a lot when he was with the Nationals, cannot play through even the slightest pain

I'll never understand qualifying a player as "soft". Different people have different reactions to injuries and pain.

It was only a matter of time. In 8+ seasons, he's stayed healthy once and even then he didn't play 150 games. He's a great player when he's healthy but he never stays healthy. That's the story of his career. Ramiro Pena will likely see a lot of playing team this year.

Some players play through pain better than others. Derek Jeter wouldnt tell anyone if his back was bothering him.

Dustin Pedroia is the same way.

Anyway, looks like Johnson will be out awhile. Can't say we're surprised, just not a reliable signing.

Johnson is now out indefinitely. He won't even be able to pick up a bat until mid-June. Just another typical season for him. The Yankees were as foolish for picking him up and thinking he'd be healthy as the Red Sox were for picking up Baldelli. Only difference is, the Red Sox didn't plan in Baldelli replacing one of their best hitters from the previous year.

But they can cover his loss pretty well with their pretty deep bench. My guess is that Miranda is gonna get a prolonged shot to play as well as Thames and Winn. Eventually, once Montero kicks it into gear (and he hit a grand slam tonight) he'll probably come up and take the reigns

Benches can cover up holes for short periods of time but over large sample sizes bench players tend to get exposed as... well, bench players. None of the guys you mentioned are going to provide a .420 OBP in the second spot of the order. The Yankees are going to miss that.

I looked up their stats, and just to prove my point - Cervelli and Thames both currently have a BABIP over .400. Over an extended sample size, they're numbers are going to crash.

They're bench players. Who cares.

Apparently you do, as evidenced by your post in the GT. Can't have it both ways.

They're not bench players anymore. With Johnson out indefinitely, they're now everyday players. That's kind of why it's being discussed...

Yeah, really. Diony just made 3 posts criticizing the Red Sox bench players replacing the Red Sox injured players, and now he's saying "who cares?" when I mention the Yankees bench players who will be replacing an injured Yankees player over a much longer period of time.

I'd take Cervelli on my team almost any day of the week.

But what do I know. I liked Duane Josephson.:D

No one they didn't like Cervelli.

But he's not as good a hitter as he's shown. Neither is Marcus Thames or Brett Gardner.

What about Hermida, would you like him on your team? (oh snap)
