I remember a few yrs back in Oakland, Ruben Sierra...

Whoa, that would be more than a few years ago. There's a blast from the past, Ruben Sierra

Master of the understatement.

Sorry, i couldn't watch the game tonight. Was tied up until about 10:30, got home to watch Darnell f***ing McDonald hit the game winner.

It was the second time around. It was Oakland, we were under .500, and he was batting right handed and smoked a double that hit the chalk down the LF line. I remember it distinctly. We won something like 9 in a row after that

Don't forget we're DFA'ing Hermida before we ever consider giving Hall the pink slip.... hahaha

The guy who did it is Mo Rivera's cousin.

Honestly, this was not a well played game by us. We won which could kick start us, but if we can't improve our defense behind the plate it will be a fatal flaw for this team. I also think we need to get another power bat. This team isn't going to score enough as is.

What a great game! The type of feel good game that sets off a solid run. A guy who spends most of his career in the minors, called up... all he does is pinch hit tying homerun in bottom of 8th, then a walkoff hit the very next inning

Oh and if I was a Rangers fan, I know Id be saying enough with Frank Francisco... Neftali Feliz is the way to go. I know Francisco didnt blow the save but he has been a bust out of the bullpen this year

EDIT: I do agree with the Sox needing to correct the defense behind the plate. They must be last team to not have a runner picked off or thrown out

Eh. Some baserunner will fall down eventually. It's going to happen.

The 9 steals even with a great catcher some of those are gonna still make it. It was Wake and to catch a knuckle ball is tough because you have to wait it out just like a hitter.

EDIT: V-mart arm was terrible though. Blame both.

They stole on a pitch-out.

They stole on a pitch-out.

i know hence the edit. But if you figure that a normal pitchout is about 90 and a Wake pitchout is 75. there is a slight difference.

You have to put a lot of blame on Martinez, but it is very easy to steal off knuckleballers because it obviously takes longer for the ball to get to the plate.

Man even in a Sox win, I make the three blind mice look stupid.

I honestly never want to hear a peep from them for the rest of the season once my point is proven at the halfway mark. However they'll attempt to find a way out and fail miserably. Kilo where did you go? At least you have a brain.

"Three blind mice?" Ok. Last i checked, even my grandma could steal on Wakefield because, you know, he throws 68. And even worse, your argument in this instance doesn't hold any water, because how many catchers can actually catch the knuckler. Not sure the best catcher in ther history of ever per Gom's opinion (Jose Molina) can do it. And how exactly is the fact that they steal a lot of bases off Wakefield is going to result in the Red Sox pitching staff ERA ballooning up nearly a full run?

Declaring victory as usual.

Gom, you're not twelve, and you got banned once before for this , so stop being a douchebag before they give you the boot again.

I'm not declaring victory, just having fun right now. We'll see at the All-Star break.

Gom's post was 100% predictable, and equally stupid. Let's rewind:

The argument you made against Posada was primarily about "framing" pitches and CERA, which is what, at least for me, we disagreed with. Your gripe was never primarily about controlling the running game, and for good reason, because Posada never allowed baserunners to succeed at this rate. I agree that controlling the running game is important, because you can put a tangible run value on a stolen base through linear weights. At the rate Martinez is allowing runners to advance, it would be very difficult for him to offset that with offensive contribution.

7. Victor Martinez will put up great numbers at the plate' date=' but the Red Sox ERA will suffer greatly with him, ala Posada. The grumblings should begin in the summer. [/quote']

Your prediction was that Martinez would perform similarly to Posada behind the plate, which is no great stretch of the imagination because they were similar at controlling the running game prior to this year. However, Martinez has been abysmal at controlling the running game. I agree that this makes his continued presence behind the plate untennable, however, this was never the point you made. Of course, you have no qualms about claiming credit for something you didn't do. It's the Gom thing to do.
