I guess there's a silver lining to these early season woes.

Gom losing out on his investment scheme is one.

All my NYY and TB fantasy players having success is another.

I'll be ok with my investments, although I've taken a bit of a beating in the real estate market.

The Yankees tickets are spending cash. Last year was my best ever. I'm hoping for a Yankee-Red Sox ALCS and a Yankees-Phillies World Series. I may break 30 grand in profits for that one, if both series go seven and we have home-field.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you sell them? Stubhub?

On the bright side, after tomorrow you guys have Texas, Baltimore, @Toronto, and @Baltimore coming up. Those should all be series wins at the very least.

Stubhub exclusively, with the occasional Craigslist, and to friends.

26 to 6 picked up the homerun derby and this year's opening day. He's got right of first refusal for any game he wants.

Lester appears to have gotten away from or not be comfortable with his cutter. That cutter keeps righties honest and is a tool to get lefties to chase off the plate. Looks like straight 4 seamers to me, which won't fool a lot of good hitters. His curve had a lot of bite, but his control was off. IMO, if Lester finds the feel for the cutter again and starts locating that curve, he'll be lights out. Just odd that he didnt seem to throw it, when that pitch is really the reason for his transformation to elite pitcher.

Garza was dominant today, but the sox arent the same as they used to be. With Beltre and VMart in that lineup as well as a few others, they have gone from a grind em down club to a team that works the count above average. That doesnt get it done when you dont have a lot of firepower offensively.

I agree with a few others on here, that the sox have a lot of flaws. BUT, once the pitching comes together and their offense sees Drew, VMart, and Papi settle out, they should win a bunch of games.

On another topic, I do think that this sox team gets a big addition come trade deadline. Wouldnt be surprised if Buchholz is in SD tan and blue come July

Texas is actually a good club, but I agree that the sox should run through the O's and Jays

If Theo gets Dunn' date=' then he betrays his entire offseason propaganda run. AdGon gives you the option of adding an elite level defender to your club[/quote']

I'm thinking Dunn as DH if Papi keeps struggling.

I don't see why not. Texas is decent, but you get them at home. Baltimore is horrible so it shouldn't matter where you play them, and Toronto isn't a good team either.

Replace Garza with the name of the day's starting pitcher, and this will be a recurring sentence all season.

This is as good as their pitching will be. They have a team ERA of 4.05. It will probably go up from here. As for the hitters, yes, VMart will improve. Drew will as well. Ortiz is done.

I would be. I fully expect to see AGon in a White Sox uniform. If you were San Diego, would you rather have Buchholz or Beckham? Please.

I dont see the White Sox dealing Beckham. Either he's hitting the s*** out of the ball and he's essential to their lineup, or he is slumping and his stock drops. The sox could deal away Buchholz plus minor league prospects for AdGon and fill the hole with DiceK, so it is logical. The only problem the sox will face is the loss of Westmoreland as their premier legitimate offensive prospect. The Padres are flush with young pitching and will likely require a premier minor league bat. They dont have one of those at this time

Objectivity. Find it. And on what grounds do you make this claim?

Based on what?

Are you the GM of the San Diego Padres?

I'd be wary of trading top pitching for hitting. Would rather see an emphasis on pitching and defense, and we can still afford to have power hitters.

I think Beckham is a better prospect, player, etc. than Buchholz. This is my opinion. Sadly for Red Sox fans, Hoyer worked for the Red Sox and knows the PR Machine.

It's pretty simple really. If he likes Buchholz more, AGon will be a Red Sox. If he likes Beckham more, AGon will be a White Sox. This is my opinion anyways.

To answer you Dipre, I highly doubt your team ERA will be 4.00. It will be closer to 4.50. Again...my opinion.

The team has a strong starting staff. No matter what they're currently doing, you can't simply think something because you want it to be true.

The Red Sox have a great front three. Plus Buchholz is a strong no. 4.

I don't doubt the quality of your front three. However, let me point out some information to you.

Your team ERA in the first half of 2009 was 4.07.

Your team ERA in the second half of 2009 was 4.70.

Now...who did you acquire in the middle of the season last year? VMart. Who is primarily your catcher now? Vmart.

I'm actually quite surprised your team era is as low as it is. I fully expect it to climb half a point by the All-Star break.

Again..my opinion.

Martinez barely catched last year.

Just sayin'.

True. However...he had a catcher ERA of 5.22 in the nine games he caught last year. The Red Sox team ERA was 4.35. This year? Vmart has a 4.56 CERA this year, and the team ERA is 4.07. Small sample size? Absolutely. No question about it. However, I personally believe that Vmart's catching ERA will be about 40 points higher than Varitek.

For this reason, I see the Red Sox finishing with an ERA around 4.50. Keep in mind that the team ERA should be lower, with the maturation of Buchholz, the signing of Lackey, and the shift to defense. Vmart is that bad.

How does it not make sense? You don't have to agree with it, but how does it not make sense?

CERA is a stupid stat. Always has been' date=' always will be[/quote']

Your opinion. I'm not saying it's great, but it's the best we have to determine catcher defense. It also seems to correctly correlate catchers on the same team, more often than not.

Posted
No, it doesnt. It is entirely dependent on the team and who catches whom. For the Yankees, Cervelli seems to be getting paired with Sabathia. Isnt it logical that his CERA is gonna be much lower since he'll be catching the Yankee ace? You cannot standardize it, hence it is a useless stat.

He won't catch just Sabathia all season. Compare Cervelli with Posada when it comes to just CC. It doesn't really matter who the pitcher is. Cervelli will outperform Posada every time. The only time it won't happen will be with extremely small sample sizes, like relievers.

Mark my words. If Cervelli catches every start of CC, he wins the Cy Young.
