Who knows? Who really cares, too? They have enough depth to throw out an arm that gives them 5-6 innings no matter what. It's like the NY papers have nothing to write about.

Hughes right now, from the sounds of it. But I would rather see Joba in the 5 hole. He's already stretched out. Putting him back in the pen would seal the debate for the rest of Joba's career

They are deep, especially when you consider Aceves, although I like him better in the swing role. That being said, that depth gets trimmed once the season starts and players get fit into shorter roles.

Aceves gets cut down to long man/middle reliever, which means he wont be starting

Hughes or Joba get cut down to setup man, which means they wont be starting

And one of Marte or Gaudin will be gone due to roster crunch.

The depth is nice now, but it is about to go away pretty soon

They have four damn pitchers competing for one spot. If one fails or falters, another jumps in.

This isn't like the last few years when we were calling up God knows who. All four pitchers are solid pitchers. Not spectacular, but solid.

I agree Gom, this is a great position to be in. I am just reminding you that this depth will pretty much dissolve come April. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but something to keep in mind nonetheless

How will it dissolve?

Let's say Joba is in the rotation. Hughes goes in the pen with Aceves and Gaudin. Mitre goes to the minors.

Joba gets hurt, you have Gaudin and Mitre and Aceves who can fill in, and Logan, Melancon or Ring can take their spot in the pen if one moves into the rotation.

It's not an issue. This is not a two man competition. It's four guys for one job. The depth is sufficient.

It is VERY tough to fracture an elbow in a musclebound man on a pitch. A wrist, hand, finger? Easy. But an elbow? Not really. I got hit a few times right on the elbow, and I developed a pretty nasty bursitis, but was able to play through it. The olecranon bursa sits right over the olecranon (pointy part of the elbow). It acts as a shock absorber which is why a direct blow needs to have incredible force to break the bone. But the bursa gets inflamed and hurts like hell for a month

I hope you're right Jacko. I was just worried after reading about how Teixeira reacted.

Oh it hurts a lot' date=' and typically your arm goes numb since the force transmitted stuns the ulnar nerve.[/quote']

Alright, well, I appreciate the information. Definitely eases my concerns, along with the reports that it's just a contusion.

OH NO ' date=' he's part of your shutdown bullpen , that blows [/quote']

You don't think he's an important component of a very good bullpen?

Well he probably shouldn't have taken Bonser out while leaving Aceves in, but I would also prefer the Yankees' bullpen.

After Papelbon and Bard, I'm not that thrilled with the Sox pen. Oki and Ramirez are good, but after them there isn't much. MDC seems to be damaged. He's not throwing very hard. Who will be the other lefty? They all stink. The other righhties: Nelson and Atchinson are not very good.Am I missing anyone?

Apparently Denard Span hit a foul ball right into his mother's chest. She's alright so...ROFL!
Chuck Knoblauch threw a ball into the stands one time that hit Keith Olberman's mother in a game that he was announcing.
