So the French team just refused to practice today reacting to Anelka's dismissal. Those guys really hate their coach. What a 'team'.

Italy tying with New Zealand (arguably the worst team in the tournament) is beyond funny.

Unless you're an Azzurri supporter.

Switzerland had a tough red card call against them, but are still tied with Chile (and Chile scores as I type this, although it was offsides) and the interesting stat is that Switzerland have gone nearly 550 World Cup minutes without conceding an in game goal. I believe that the last goal that Switzerland gave up in regulation play was in the 1994 World Cup.

Edit: Now Switzerland has the record for most consecutive World Cup minutes without allowing a (non-penalty kick) goal.

Just wanted to point out that the Ivory Coast's goalkeeper is named Boubacar Barry and how awesome that is.

North Korea suuuuuuuucks

I heard somewhere that the World Cup officials paid a bunch of Chinese people to act like North Korean supporters just so that the North Koreans would appear to have some support at the World Cup, and thus appear as part of the world afterall.

When I saw the 'North Korea' fan section the other day I was curious what the deal was.

I feel really terrible for the players on the NK soccer team. I heard that the last world cup' date=' the players were sent to labor camps when they returned home for not winning.[/quote']

The last time they made the World Cup was 1966, so I'm guessing what you're alluding to might be in '06 for them not qualifying. Regardless, really sad. I fear for their safety once they return home.

lol France

South Africa goes up 1-0 early, and France just had a man sent off for an elbow to the face. Hahaha. This is great.

They just said on the broadcast that an Ireland pizza company is giving away free pizzas every time France concedes a goal. Awesome.

Edit: 2-0 South Africa! Pour it on.

France is playing Horrible. A lot of the favorties haven't played well. brazil looks pretty good. Not sure what Kaka's status is. Holland has a good shot at sneaking up and snatching this WC I think.

He can't play in the Portugal game but it doesn't matter to the Brazilians, they're already through.

I've been surprised with some of the weak play of European teams (Italy, France, England, and Spain early on) as two of those teams were in the finals of the 2006 World Cup, and two other European teams (Germany and Portugal) finished 3rd and 4th.

I'm equally surprised with the good play of the South American countries. We all knew that Brazil and Argentina were good, but Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile have pleasantly surprised me. There are only 5 South American countries in this World Cup, and they are all currently winning their groups. Uruguay is atop group A, Argentina atop group B, Paraguay atop group F, Brazil atop group G, and Chile atop group H.

France was terrible during qualifiers, although they were very good last World Cup it wasn't that big of a surprise that they have sucked

With a win and an England tie or win, the United States have a very good shot at the #1 seed, which would give them a good chance at the quarterfinals. They should have 4 points as far as I'm concerned (there was no reason to take their 3rd goal away from them, that ref was an idiot), but I still think they qualify

I'd have to say that is North Korea. And yeah, these guys will likely not be treated too well upon return to North Korea.

The US should have 3 points, not 4, because if you add the goal vs. Slovenia, you should take away the "goal" vs. England, and the USA would be left with 3 points (instead of their 2 points or their 4 points if both situations went in the US's favour.

Somebody call the waaaaaaaaaaaaambulance. The goalie blew that one, not the ref.

That wasn't my point. I'm not arguing anything as to who is the better team between England and the USA. My point is that the US shouldn't have 4 points, as a poster previously insinuated. Granted, they shouldn't have the 2 points that they have now either, they should have 3 points. They shouldn't have "beaten" England, and they shouldn't have "tied" Slovenia. So if you mark the US results as they should have been, they would be 1-1 instead of 0-0-2, which would give them 3 points instead of 2, and an even greater advantage going into this game.
