I really wish I had as much faith in the Yankees as the Red Sox fans do on this board.

That's because we hate the Yankees, old-timer.

Yeah really. We could definitely use the support though

To make you feel better, I don't have that much faith in the Yankees. ;)

Go Angels! Win the next two and have the 3-2 lead going back to the Bronx.

I hope the baseball Gods listen to your beautiful self.

It was a fastball' date=' and it was in off the plate. The execution was not the issue. It was the pitch selection.[/quote']

if you see the spin and the position of pettitte's hand on the ball you will see that it is a cut fastball. the left middle finger is a little elevated off the ball.

I really can't believe we lost this game. I can't specifically comment on what happened because I ended up falling asleep in the 8th inning (hey' date=' long day) and didn't wake up until I heard Buck and McCarver screaming that the Angels won, but whatever it was seems like Girardi really f***ed up.[/quote']

We are lucky to be in this game. Abreu's baserunning gaffe, and they should have scored off of Rivera.

Face it, today, they were the better team, even before they won.

That's not true if Pettitte makes a quality two strike pitch to Guerrero. After that I agree, but I firmly believe that if he bounces a slider in that spot, the Yankees probably win the game.

a cutter is a fastball. the ball had tail to the right towards the batter. you could see it on the spin and the hand positioning on the ball. i know how to throw a cutter because i used to throw one. its all about the pressure and you can see that the his left middle finger is flared off the ball.

Buck and McCarver called it a cutter. that is not saying much but it still was watch the movement of the ball.

why in that situation would you throw a straight fastball to a fastball hitter. the cutter is one of pettitte's bread and butter pitches.

straight fastball, okay lefties don't have one if it was a "straight fastball' it would have tailed back out over the middle of the plate. lefties have a natural tail that tails like a two seamer.

That's total ********.

I'm a lefty and i've pitched.

I can throw a pencil-straight fastball by applying pressure to the grip if i really need a strike.

I think it's more of a complete lack of faith in the Angels.

Whatever it is I'll take it.

Oh well, definitely wasn't expecting a sweep by either team. Hopefully CC can dominate again tomorrow....

Oh don't worry, he will.

The backwards Ks would make the pain worthwhile.

its not really that bad on the elbow. its all about the pressure of the fingers. add more pressure to your pointer finger and the ball will cut across. i used to throw it at age 10 and it is a great pitch to have. if you have a slider to go with it or a sweeping curve it is even better. Also a quite effective pitch is the splitter if you can control a lot longer to learn than a cutter or a curve.

Dipre- Did pettitte really try to throw a "pencil straight fastball." HELL NO the situation called for a pitch with movement. the ball moved into the hitter not away which his pitch did. Plus you are the only lefty that i have ever heard of that can throw the ball perfectly straight. Greg Terhune a kid i caught for years who is going to Seton hall on full ride baseball scholarship can't get his fastball straight because his has a natural tail. his does move about a good three to four inches. It does matter how hard you throw. if you are throwing a ball in the 70s the tail can be taken away easily but at the id to high 80s its nearly impossible. i know four lefties who have so much tail and they cannot control it.

Spudboy- i don't think i can type the perfect english that you can understand. lol.

Did A-Rod just pull on Jeter's ass after Posada's home run? Serious question, not making a gay joke (well, kind of making a gay joke).

EDIT: After further review, he did indeed.

Confirmed.

Most lefties do have a natural tail, mostly because the majority of them come from a 3/4 arm slot. There are some that dont. CC being one. His 4 seamer has no movement at all.

You know it's an overstatement when i say "pencil straight", stop trying to nitpick.

The point is, everyone can throw a fastball with little to no movement if they so desire, Mr. Leo Mazzone. People having "so much tail" they cannot control it is an outright lie. I've seen loads and loads of young left-handed prospects in my lifetime and i've never seen this phenomena you speak of. And also, you say a cutter is not "That bad on the elbow" because "you threw it when you were 10?" lolwut?

Jacko, it's not the natural tail, it's the fact that even WITH the natural tail you can still throw a pretty straight fastball when you need to. Read please.
