I thought we should have let Tim go and go with Rask full time instead of overpaying for a 35 year old one year wonder.

Wouldn't have made sense at the time. There was no guarantee that Rask would be this ready. You have to look at these signings in the context of the time they were made, and when they were made, Rask was the veteran of exactly 5 NHL games and the Bruins thought they were a top team in the league, that's not a good time to play Russian Roulette in net.

I still think Thomas' contract is tradable. Probably only as a salary dump or for a low pick now, but someone will take the guy on at that price I think. All the no-trade clause means IMHO is that he's probably going to be moved to a contender.

This is not the first time Thomas has had to make do with irregular playing time. If it came to it I didn't really think Thomas would struggle to adjust to backing up, he's done it most of his career. It's dealing with the long grind of starting that's always been his bugaboo.

I will not have the same TT v Rask argument again. However I cannot agree with the laissez-faire atitude about the NTC s. Chiarelli loves to give them out to mediocre talent (thomas, Morris) and it killed him at the deadline when he got stuck with Thomas and got raped in the Morris deal.

As for the team this season, I'm not sure how you can say no one has underachieved. By my count, Chara, Ryder, Krejci, Hunwick, Ference, Wideman, Lucic, Savard, and Thomas have all underperformed. I actually think Wheeler's overall game has improved (moreso than atthis point last yr). Sure, he could put the puck in the net more but you can say that about everyone except Sturm.

For the record, I think Chia is handing the NTC's out in order to stay under the cap and attract as much talent as he can. It's a calculated risk for a team that doesn't have a ton of wiggle room.

This whole situation will look much better by draft day IMHO.

BTW when the next CBA comes due, I'm pretty sure both sides will be willing to give a little in order to get a little. The current system is broken and I don't think it's really serving either side well, so as long as both sides have their eyes on the prize and are willing to compromise and make reasonable sacrifices, we might see a whole different situation in the next agreement -- or they could get into another huge labor war and get nothing done.

Marc Savard was hit and carted off on a stretcher today. Lordy I hope it's nothing too serious...

The latest is that he had a concussion but he's fine. He wasn't even taken to a hospital but he's going to be monitored by training staff tonight as a precaution. It's the first story on the front of BostonBruins.com.

So a player sustains a concussion and it's determined that his condition does not warrant a visit to a hospital. I find that strange. Who made that decision? The guy who sharpens the skates?

I'm sure he was evaluated by medical professionals with the team. Typically a player isn't sent to the hospital unless they're showing severe symptoms or aren't showing any improvement. If he was unconscious for more than a few seconds, he probably would have gone to the hospital.

Still he has to be out at least 3 games b/c of NHL policy, although I think he'll be out longer than that. What a cheap hit, and what pisses me most almost as much as the hit was the fact that no retaliated against Cooke or tried to take out their pretty boy Crosby. This team needs their catalyst in Savard, even without him the offense comes and goes. Now he's out and we have to hope Bergeron and Krecji step up. I don't know how this team became so friggin soft.

It's a good policy. Any hockey player with a concussion bad enough to lose consciousness shouldn't be playing for at least a week anyways.

How about the fact that there wasn't even a penalty called on the play? How do you miss a cheap blindside hit like that? Not to mention there were only 5 minutes left in the game and we could've used the PP there.

How'd you enjoy the game yesterday, YH?

It was fun, nice win. We had great seats, the drive down was a breeze, traffic was horrendous getting out of NY, but it was well worth it, especially with getting the tickets for free. I enjoyed being my normal obnoxious self somewhere other than in the Garden for a change.

Nah we were in a premium seating type area, $180 seats for free. One of my suitemate's dad has/gets season tickets somehow (be it himself or through his company or whatever) and it just so turned out that me and a friend were talking about getting tickets and my suitemate was like dude just take our tickets, my whole family is going to Florida and I'm going to Rome so just take our seats.

It was good s***.

Edit: and I realize I didn't even answer your question.... we were about 'P' rows back (it goes A-P), on a corner, but they were awesome seats, only way you could get a better seat in the house would have been if they were center ice.

Dang. Pretty sweet man. You can't beat free tickets, especially when they're elite seats like that.

Me and one of my friends drove over to Nashville last year to see the B's play. We didn't have tickets, but ended up getting $120 face value tickets for like $25 a piece. They were 'scattered' tickets, meaning the seats weren't together, but we moved over and sat together right in the middle of the Preds season ticket holders. We were like 6-7 rows directly behind the net. It was great.

2 straight games against the Leafs that have to be settled in OT or a shootout, and we lose this one. Is it too much to ask to beat one of the worst teams in the NHL in regulation? I know we aren't anything special either, but damn.

Bruins up 1-0 on the Flyers after the first period. Boston's also up 1-0 in fights in my opinion. I expect Philly to come out pissed in the remaining two periods. This should be an interesting contest between a good offense/bad defense and a bad offense/good defense.

Nice to see the Bruins play a physical game and come out with the W over the Rangers. The Thrashers are closing in on us now, and we play them Tuesday. But we are only 3 points out of 5th, so if we can get hot in the last 11 games, we might move up the seeding and play a first round opponent we might actually have a chance against.
