wideman gets the blame for at least one of the goals.

gotta love the knee-jerk wangst aboutThomas starting a game after he pitches a shutout and 2 games after one of Tuukka's worst efforts. If you're not going to start Thomas unde that combination of circumstances there is no point at all to Thomas.

Sounds like someone who is still trying to defend Timmy's contract.

I agree. There is no point in starting a $4 million goalie who has been pulled 5 times in 18 starts since Jan 1.

Why bother defend the guy anymore?

The contract is pretty much water under the bridge. You can't unsign it. Letting it color your impression of a player's actual performance on the ice is retarded, so I don't subscribe to it.

Thomas got the start because of his role, not his contract. Timmy'd had a shutout last game, and as much as you yahoos don't want to admit it, he's still a tandem partner, not a "backup." Rask lost the start with his lamentable showing against the Lightning, Thomas won the night before, Thomas absolutely makes last night's start, that's exactly how they've done business all year and exactly how they should do it.

Heck, a backup probably gets that start under that combination of circumstances anyway.

Just sucks he had a bad game, but crying over him getting a start they pretty much had no choice but to give him is silly.

Sure, if it actually did.

Look up the bonus cushion sometime. Rask only gets his cap hit up to 3.2 if he actually hits his bonuses. Pretty sure that's actually impossible now.

Tonight's win against the Devils was impressive. The Bruins outplayed the Devils for most of the game, minus a few sloppy moments in our own defensive zone. Rask was sharp when he was challenged. We pressured their zone all night. I leapt out of my chair when Bergeron scored that goal. There is now a three way tie for 6th, and the Thrashers are still just 2 points behind in 9th. The Rangers keep winning too. Man, its gonna be a crazy finish.

Impressive that they went into NJ and won but the thing hurting the Bruins is that they have 35 wins compared to Montreal's 37 and Philly's 38. Wins are the primary tiebreaker. But that should only affect their seeding if they keep winning since Atlanta only has 34 wins.

there is a difference between playing Buffalo in the first round and Washington, thats the difference between 8th and 6th. The Bruins really need to get 6th if they want any decent shot at getting out of the first round.

The only real guarantee is whoever finishes 8th is playing Washington. Whoever finishes 5th, 6th or 7th has a very real shot of playing any one of Buffalo, New Jersey or Pittsburgh.

Well you're right about one thing. There's a long season of hockey ahead of us.

I'll look forward to Thomas getting back on form towards the middle of the season and getting my lolwut moments quoting some of the panic posts in this thread.

Singlehandedly set that goal in motion. Makes defender lose his stick, gets puck back to Stuart at the point, goes to the front of the net and holds his position and sticks the rebound home. It was really one of the best individual plays I've seen in a long time.

I agree, it was nice. I just wouldn't call it one of the best plays I've ever seen.

I thought he was gonna score on the original shot but it just missed. Gotta give credit to Stuart being patient with the puck and to Recchi for getting just enough of his stick on it so Marty couldn't control the rebound.

Look at Atlanta's remaining schedule:

Washington

Pittsburgh

New Jersey

Washington

Pittsburgh

Looks like the top 8 are set in terms of which teams will be in the playoff, just not the order. Who do you guys want to play in the 1st Round? If season ended today, it would be Buffalo.

I was thinking today about how far ahead the Caps are on everyone else. They have possibly the worse division in all of the NHL. Wonder what their stats would be if they had some good teams in their division. If they were in the Atlantic (where they should be), they would probably be right up there with Pitt and NJ, but not as many points. Personally, I don't think they're winning jack w/ that goaltending and 25th-ranked PK. But great job beating up on Tampa, Carolina, Atlanta and Florida all year. What a joke of a division.

Buffalo without a doubt. We've actually played well against them this year, 3-2 in favor of the Bruins I believe. I don't think winning a series against them would be out of reach at all with Rask in net.

We got some nice help tonight with Carolina winning @ Montreal.

Yes, but 2 of the wins did come in the shootout which we can not fall back on in the playoffs. I'm just not confident playing Ryan Miller in a 7 game playoff setting (See: Olympics)

so.... f***ing frustrating. We out played them and we still lose, go figures, we played at home where the Bruins just don't win this year. We fired so many attempts on net, between saves, blocked shots, and shots that missed the net, we took 80+ shots. The Panthers were playing the whole third period on the defensive. ARG why can't the Bruins just take of business and beat scrub teams!

Believe me, I feel your pain. When the Hawks lose to teams like the Blue Jackets, you really have to wonder how far they can go in the postseason. Came back strong against Minnesota last night, but the next team (New Jersey) will be a true test of where this team stands right now. If they can't even get 1 point out of that game, I think we're looking at a first round exit.
