Case in point.

Yes, case in point to the fact that you must be prepared to get hit anywhere in every at bat. You step into the box knowing that you could get severely injured every time up. It is the risk you take when you step into the box. Kinda like assuming risk when a 250lb linebacker comes at you in football.

Did you get to see Hanley Ramirez play while he was there?

Yes is did.

In fact, Hanley's family here in the Dominican (besides the ones in Samana) live a block from my house. :D:D:D:D

I've actually talked to him in person a couple times.

I remember asking him last year: "How does it feel to be rich after being on the lower end for so long?" He responded: "The same, but with a lot more things and a much easier life, however, money doesn't have to change who you are"

I'll never forget it, specially since that was pretty deep for someone who looks so dumb.

There are risks you take within the rules and traditions of the sport you play, yes. If the injury or potential injury comes outside the rules you have an issue that needs redress.

But if that 250 pound linebacker facemasks you and you get a strained ligament in your neck or something, I think you have the right to be upset.

if it got away from Porcello that's one thing but that's not what it looks like happened.

You need to take the chance of getting hit, but sometimes you want to get back, if you pitch, you hit him in a thigh next time he comes up.

If he doesn't hit and you don't pitch, what do you do?

yes you do. But you dont charge at the guy and try to kill him, instigating a fight. Baseball is one of the only sports not requiring skates where charging a player and attacking a player is only mildly punished. In football, fighting gets a 3-4 game suspension, which is 25% of the season.

your pitcher is supposed to have your back and go after their best player

That's really f***ing awesome.

So, you never felt like your pitcher "Having your back" was not enough when you weren't pitching?

Dude's got the sickest pimped-out Bentley.

You know who i also saw in person once?

Izzy Alcantara.

A buddy of my dad's used to play amateur ball with him before he signed.

I asked him, at the chance of getting my ass kicked: "What the f*** were you thinking that day?"

He replied with a chuckle and said: "I don't take s*** from anybody".

I've got a lot of stories about baseball, but those two are the best.

I wonder if the fact that the pitcher in question was

a: a rookie making his first start

b: wild and not wonderfully effective at that point in the game

c: not a native English speaker

Might have fueled the fire in this case. If you don't know the pitcher you don't know he has your back after all.

Haha sick. Any other MLB players you've spoken to there?

Not really.

I've seen a lot of them in places, they've said hi, or signed something.

But those are my two best stories i suppose.

who else from the DWL have you met? Manny, Papi, Jose Reyes?

EDIT:nvm I just saw your last post.

I saw Joe Girardi at Carson's Ribs back when he was playing for the Cubs.

My dad chatted with Tony Oliva and Orlando Cepeda at a Cardinals game years ago. They were surprised someone recognized them.

This was a very dumb move on this part this time of year. Control your emtions and just walk to first and maybe yell something out to the mound but so nothing more. Another thing that puzzles me is why didn't he appeal? Sense he did not appeal, he will not be able to play in the 3 games series vs the Rangers which could be a determining series in the Wild Card. A flat out stupid move to do this in the first place but not too appeal was a really dumb move.

But, he doesn't miss the Yankees series. The way Lowell's hitting right now, we'll be fine in the short term, which is all this suspension is. I'm still not convinced Texas will be in it till the end, either.

Cabrera wasn't hit deliberately. He also sort of leaned into the pitch.

But it was the second time he got hit in two games! And he got hit in the hand, which is worse for a hitter than getting hit in the back.

Actually, probably not.

Where was all this "selfihsness" line when Coco Crisp charged Shields last year?

It was June, right? And Crisp was our backup OF?

Similar to why pitchers don't throw at guys late in close games and choose to do it early in the games when there is still time to recover.

1.5 games up in the Wild Card, series coming up against the 2nd place team, and he removes himself from the lineup for doing something that could be easily avoided.

I don't get why people don't consider this to be selfish.

Posted
Youkilis is very far from selfish you go up to the plate and get plunked two nights in a row and tell me if It doesn't piss you off. I know i'd do the exact same thing if I was in his position. I don't blame him for what he did. Besides it brought Lowell into the game and he's hit 3 HR in 2 nights for us.

Can't agree.

There was a fight in 2004 against the Yankees that cleared the benchs and totally changed the momentum of the Red Sox season. A kick up the ass was needed.

Porcello wins by a takedown by the way.

Sorry CoachC didn't see your post. Spot on.

Like I said before, Youkilis' forgiveableness, I know, not a word, will depend on the record with him off the field. So far, they are 2-0.

It SHOULD be made a word.

Nice one doc. :D

I don't think there is a player in the Red Sox organisation who would actually want to miss 5 games so this is very much an unselfish act as far as I'm concerned.

No one see's the similarities between this and when Tek gave A-rod a face full of glove in 2004? That was the turning point of the season then' date=' and I really do think this could do the same, Lowell is a great replacement to have, and he has been absolutely raking lately.[/quote']

Good point and it wasnt only a season turning event but a moment when all things that NY had over us disappeared forever when that whiny **** got bitch slapped in front of the whole world and Tim McCarver actually shut his f***ing mouth for 15 seconds.

Boy I still love Arroyo for that season.

im not sure Porcello and Arod are on the same level when it comes to pure hatred.today we sit on 2 titles but in 04 we were still suffering from many different syndromes of psychosis and hadnt won in a long lifetime.

Youk has been getting thrown at since the chubby indian whos mama is a crank dealer started targetting him a couple years back and its been much worse recently with many pitches sailing near eye and ear level.

Whether he intended to get them fired up or not doesnt matter at this point as they just beat the 1st place tigers 3 straight after the humiliation of losing 6 straight to tampa and ny.We've scored a lot of runs since then and are indeed playing with a bit more spark.

the tigers being in first place has more to do with the s*** division than them actually being good. If Detroit were in the ALE, they'd be battling the Jays for 4th place

Oh really...

Just wanted to point out something....

The sox next 7 games will be incredibly difficult

1. @NYY Beckett vs Burnett

2. @NYY Buchholz vs Sabathia

3. @NYY Lester vs Pettitte

4. vs DET Penny vs Jackson

5. vs DET Smoltz vs Porcello

6. vs DET Beckett vs Galarraga

7. vs DET Buchholz vs Verlander

then you have 3 at Texas (one vs Millwoord), 3 at Toronto (where you might face both Romero and Halladay), then you face Chamberlain, Burnett and Sabathia in Fenway. After that, you have 4 vs the White Sox and 3 vs Toronto. Your August is BRUTAL.

First it's going to be very difficult, then, once they win, it's because the opponent was so easy. Funny how that works.
