Yeah, it couldn't have come at a worse time. But clearly, there was provocation. The Tigers are in the hunt, too. Some intensity from Francona to light up this team instead of from one of his best players might have helped. I understand Tito has some blood pressure problems, but maybe one of his coaches could light it up. The club definitely needed something like this.

Meanwhile, Toronto gives away one of their best hitters on waivers just before they go into Yankee stadium for a series. When it rains, it pours.

To be fair, Alex Rios was sucking ass this season.

Couldn't have used Youkilis against Verlander, right?

Although it was pretty clear Tito punted this one from the get go.

And for those saying Varitek's punch of ARod was the turning point to the 2004 season, please remember they went 5-5 after that game and didn't start to pull away until their starting rotation went on a tear in mid-August and their defense stopped sucking ass.

When the entire second half of the order sucked and the balls just weren't flying out, I'd need convincing he would have made a real difference. Especially since Woodward was going to play whether or not Youkilis was in there.

Verlander was just on his game. Give credit where credit is due and move on.

You don't think having their best offensive player in a 2-0 game couldn't have made a difference?

Really?

He also subtracts Ortiz from the lineup.

and chances are that if Youk was in the lineup atleast one of Drew/Pedroia is too...I do agree that if Youk is on the field our chances to win become far better than without but its kind of a moot point, he isnt here and I think without Youk that game is very hard to win whether or not Drew or Dusty are in the lineup.

The Kotchman who went 0-4 today? That Kotchman?

over Papi, yes and he plays defense well and it allows us to take Tek from the lineup for V-Mart so Kotch and V-mart>Papi and Tek and it upgrades Defense at 3B and it keeps good D at 1B

I'm not sure why you assume Youk would have a better day than that. Verlander's having a career year.

Youk is our best hitter. It's good to have your best hitter in the lineup. It may not have won us the game, but it would have given us a better chance.

:dunno:

A better chance? Sure, but don't oversell it or make it sound like Youk not being in the lineup cost us the game. He made the result we got more likely, is the absolute most you can say.

Making a loss more likely is enough to be upset at his current predicament

Verlander was the story today. The only way he could have been beaten (regardless of who may have been in the line-up) is if he had left a couple of balls hanging up in the zone that were driven yard.

That did not happen. If Youk had played he likely would have k'ed twice and had little offensive impact.

I would have liked to have seen our best players (Youk, Pedroia, Drew) in the line-up, but it would most likely have been a similar result.

On to Texas for the season.

So how do you know it didn't cost us the game?

1 swing of the bat is all that it would of took to win this game

unfortinutely we'll never know if it did cost the game or not but we obviously had a better chance of winning with him in the lineup

and BTW youk is 4 for 10 VS verlander with 2 HR

SSS.

Let's stop the what-ifs.

The game is lost. Deal with it.

Youk is a true soldier equal Guts, Heart, and Ability. He doesn't like to get f***ed around with and sparks the team when they need it. This is his and Beckett's team and he wants the league to know that the Red Sox mean business. He woke up the team at the right time.
