Bring Bowden up in a relief role to replace Masterson for the rest of this season and have him prepare to start next year or if Smoltz agrees he would be a really a good fit because he throws strikes and doesn't make many wild pitches, errors, or other mental mistakes.

Not very interested in seeing Cabrera to be honest. He had his chances at the big league level and never did much with them. he's strictly a AAAA arm.

He was one of baseball's top 3 defensive 1B by UZR in '08 and 14 and 15 FRAA over the course of the last 2 seasons. He's a much much better defensive player than Adam Laroche.

 

He had a .372 OBP in 2007 with LAA and he has one over .350 this season. I bet if he isn't flipped, he's used in late game defensive situations, a la Mientkiewicz in 2004.

 

The Sox also own Kotchman's rights through 2011, where LaRoche is an FA at the end of this season.
