Really solid plate discipline? the guy has a freakin .336 career OBP. laRoche has better plate discipline and more power. All Kotchman has is marginally better glove.

Yup, and he's a very good defensive 1B (much better than LaRoche)

 

He'll probably be flipped but you could do a lot worse.

There's no real hurry to deal Kotchman. you could get him out of Boston with waiver trading if you had to. Maybe that's what Theo's doing here -- buying time.
