As a Pirate fan I congratulate you Sox fans with being stuck with Adam Laroche. He is a first class player of the field...and on the field...well.

Ok He will be very frustrating for all of you because he is overated. He was the most untimely hitting player on the Pirates. As a Pirate's fan I am glad he is gone...

My quesiton is who do you sox fans think got the better end of the deal? Are these prospects we got anygood?

Sox got the + side of the deal a decent power hitter in a position that we need it for only 2 prospects who were doomed to be traded or wander the minors forever before ever seeing a start in Fenway.

You will very likely not like Laroche. He just isn't a great hitter anymore. We got Garrett Jones giving us power.

GO BUCS!

I look at LaRoche (the dorks in atlanta called him Roachy down here in hell) as the other half of JD Drew. They have to be related like that episode of X Files where the two southern hick brothers stashed their mom under the bed and occasionally raped her to extend the family. Drew and LaRoche are the exact same way. I'm tellin' ya.

Holy s***, I've actually seen that episode. And I don't watch the show regularly. Disturbing is all I have to say.

LOL @ RSR:lol:

Sox definitely got the better end of the deal. A slick field ing noodle bat SS's are a dime a dozen. And the pitcher sits around 90MPH with very very average secondary pitches.

You may bot like Laroche. Bet he fits well here. Nice back up. Can step in if Lowell goes down for any extended period of time.

I did think Hunter Strickland had some hidden upside. He had a good fastball and was pretty young. But Argenis Diaz is the sort of guy who does one thing well, and he doesn't do that one thing well enough IMHO. I never actually thought the Sox would give him a starting job in Boston. For a power hitting corner infielder, even a pretty average one, that's a good deal for Boston.

You do seem to have an affinity for middling pitching prospects:lol:

I approach the minors a little differently from most people (yeah, duh on that one I know). For me to be down on him a player has to prove to me that he doesn't have what it takes. Strickland had done OK for himself in Greenville, he has a good fastball, and he's only 20 YO. Until he proves otherwise, IMHO he's viable.

Also, I tend to take these positions at least partly because everyone else dismisses a guy like Strickland completely, which makes me want to defend him. The truth is, as usual, somewhere in the middle.

I am not sure what you mean by great hitter. I don't think that is what we were really looking for in this situation. He is an upgrade from what we had and can provide a boost when needed hopefully. A lefty with a little pop is never a bad thing.

In our situation currently he provides way more value than a couple of career minor leaugers.

The Bucs honestly perplex me a little, I mean what is the goal this organization? Why constantly shuck off any and all talent that you have for 2nd tier minor leaguers.

Their loss is everyone elses gain.

Being a Bucs fan must be like waking up every morning and hitting yourself with a hammer in the nuts.

Look at it like this. The Pirates seem to follow your views of MiLB players the same.

Thats why they fight for the bottom of the NL Central every season;)

Dojji, it is okay to be high on pitching prospects with youth and stuff. But you dont hesitate to trade them when they are that far away. I agree with you, Strickland has good stuff for someone so young, but he is at least 4-5 yr away and is most definitely not going to make an impact in a loaded system like Boston's, so he was expendable.

See Doiji, Jacko agreed with you.

Do you need further proof about the error of your ways?

Any 20 yr old who can throw 93-95 has good stuff as long as they have one plus potential offspeed offering. That being said, you dont hesitate to give them up when you have a need.

Are you sure we're talking about the same Strickland?

The Strickland we're talking about tops out at 93, and at 93 we're talking maximum effort.

So please, do your research before you run your mouth.

Thank you.

Maybe I am wrong, but thats what I got out of scout.com with the added caveat that the sox portion of scout.com is miserably bad.

Everything that I read on him says he sits around 90MPH.

Exactly right.

To touch 93, the guy needs to throw his testicles to the plate along with the baseball.

Our prior management was terrible. They would make terrible moves, and trade our talent away for nothing. The current administration came in with no farm system and few key major leaguers. Now we have a top farm system in the league, and already some great young players in the majors. The worst deal done by our current gm was the Bay trade, since we got one average 3rd basemen, a below average outfielder, terrible reliever, and high upside yet injured goods starting pitcher.

When we traded Nady to the Yankees we got the much better end of that deal. Mclouth deal we got the better end. This team has a minor leagues full of great young hitters, and we have a pretty decent young pitching staff. We are only 7 games out of first place.

And by the time they all have ML time under their belts, get the team competitive and start to cost money, it will be rebuilding time again.
