This is what the post-Manny & Ortiz era looks like. yes there are some excellent hitters: Pedroa, Youkilis and Bay, but it is a lineup that doen't inspire fear in pitchers. There is no anchor to the lineup. There is no one who makes pitchers change their approach with regard to the rest of the lineup.

Exactly. And down the road about 200 miles there is a union of two sluggers similar to Manny and Ortiz that is thriving. This is why having Manny was so huge. This is why Ortiz in his prime was so great for the sox. As much as I hate to see Bay in a Boston uni, he is not a guy I would pitch around on a regular basis. Same with Youk, same with pedroia. When Ortiz and Manny were paired together, I dreaded their at bats. I knew when they were coming up. I knew that we better get a 1-2-3 inning or Ortiz was coming to the dish. It made me nervous, and I imagine it made the yankees and everyone else's staff nervous. Knowing you need to throw cockshots to the Bellhorns of the world because if you didnt get him out, it was one more guy on base and one step closer to that mashing duo. Now, Ortiz is a shell of himself and the only guys who really scare me a little are Youk and Bay.

Not right now. There are times when we have been close where all reason would assume the sox would pull away. And over the last 2 yrs they did because they were the healthier and better team. This yr, I think the yankees are better. And they are getting healthy
