CC was ridiculous today. He showed he was the ace we paid for. Actually, Burnett and CC really took the reigns of this series after a sloppy game 1 on both ends. The offense squeaked by early and Jeter's homer put it out of reach late. Very solid performance in mid-August from our duo of aces and from the bullpen. I couldnt be happier, well not true.

Pettitte has been rolling of late and he will be facing a lineup that will likely be devoid of the sox biggest RH power threat in Jay Bay. NY has a very good chance tonight of sweeping the series and essentially widening the gap in the east to an almost unreachable 6.5 games with the sox going into a 4 game vs Detroit against 3 of their top pitchers.

Not that they need it.

Fun fact - the Yankees have never blown a 6 game lead in their team's history.

IOW, congrats on the division, Y228.

And this is why they might pay for standing pat at the trade deadline. I said it then, and I'll say it now, I'm very disappointed that they didn't acquire a SP.

Gaudin will take his place soon enough.

The difference between Mitre and Gaudin is negligible. On top of that, we have no idea what Joba Chamberlain's status for the postseason is. They needed to get a starter in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I think the 2009 Yankees are a very good baseball team, but when they're playing well, the fans ignore the problems. And the number one problem, for a variety of different reasons, is the rotation.

Can't win every game.

Can the Mitre experiment end please? I would actually like to see Igawa. He can't be any worse.

I think Gaudin slides into the Mitre spot next week. The experiment needs to end. When the Jays, who have no offense, deal away both Rios and Rolen, I would expect any pitcher worth their salt to pitch well vs them. The fact that Mitre only got 5IP 3ER vs them makes me even more concerned that he cannot do that against anyone else. It is funny how Aceves comes in and essentially dominates the Jays for 4 innings without breaking a sweat. Kinda miffed we couldnt score off the Jays pen through 5.2IP, but the offense was due for a downturn and when both posada and matsui are out of the lineup, we are dealing with a lame part of the order. Oh well, Joba on the hill tonight with what I hope is the A lineup. With the Mariners throwing crap out there in the 3 game set, we might be able to turn this into another long winning streak.

Joba is one of the luckiest pitchers that I have seen in recent years. No matter how badly he pitches, the Yanks always seem to bail him out of losses.

6IP 7 baserunners' date=' 4 runs. Thats not lucky. Not at all. He was actually really good aside from one short sequence. Good thing NY bailed him out.[/quote']

7 walks on Thursday and he gets a win... not lucky?

I could beat the Red Sox if Smoltz was pitching on the other side.

Everyone knows that wins are a poor way to judge performance for a pitcher.
