Why?

Because he swung at a 4-seamer right over the heart of the plate with the tying run on base?

If you wanna blame anyone, blame the bullpen.

No, because he was supposed to bunt. He couldn't get the bunt down. That's why.

Melky cost today's game because he always airmails the throws instead of hitting the cutoff man. Jeter cost yesterday's game because he couldn't get the bunt down.

I never blame a player for not getting a hit, or a pitcher for giving up a hit. The fundamentals is a different story. Things like hitting the cutoff man, getting sacrifice bunts down..if you can't do that, you didn't do your job as a major league player.

I'll concede then, you're right.

He should've bunted in that situation.

As for Melky, the overthrowing problem seems to only plague him in pressure situations.

Melky made a bad throw, but A-Rod could have cut it off and chose not to. I'm shocked that someone who watches the games like you is putting all the blame on Melky.

And he didn't airmail the throw. It didn't go over anybody's head. It was just offline, but not to the point where it couldn't be cutoff.

Our offense has hit the skids. I think our pitching has been a strong suit sans Brett Tomko who I expect to be DFAd soon. The hitting will come back, our O is too good for it not to. CC cramped up in the heat and should be fine for his next start from the sounds of it. 4 games back in mid June while we are playing our worst baseball. We will right ourselves.

Losing 4 of 6 to Miami and DC is rather anemic and if you factor in payroll differential its rather hillarious. The Yankee offense has good #s but just cant get it done when the moneys on the table.

They have all seemed to have lost their patience at the plate these days.

Brett Tomko??

hahaha...When can we expect Rick Helling?

Suzyn Waldman in analyzing Tomko's outing yesterday concluded and I am parphrasing slightly: it is hard to pitch when you can't keep the ball in the park. Lol!

Don't pretend everything has been hunky dorey for the Sox this season. Look at it this way, the Yankees have failed to take advantage of a Sox team that had Ortiz as a black hole, Dice-K pitching like a stunt double from A League of Their Own, Beckett and Lester s***ing the bed until 6 weeks ago and nothing from the shortstop position. The fact that the Sox even have a 4 game lead is fairly astounding to me.

yea...lately. before that, both Lugo and Green were relatively s*** taking into account both their offensive and defensive contributions.

Anything defensively Green can come up with at shortstop should be considered a gift from the heavens.

Even though his UZR is not that horribly bad, the fact is he's a second baseman playing out of position.

NESN broke down his numbers recently and his errors reduced by about one half each month. I believe he has only made 1 error this month. I think it's safe to say he has greatly improved at SS and the errors he made earlier in the season are not likely to happen again (as often).

In my opinion we should bring him up. He brings so much skill with him.

I concerned about the quality of water in Billerica.

We'll be fine

Don't you put a lot of stock into the, "Things are never as good as they seem when you're winning and things are never as bad as they seem when you're losing", idea?

I do.

I just love the "we'll be fine" mantra Jacko loves so dearly

After starting 13-15 without ARod, I said we'd be fine. After we got on the hot streak, I said, we'd be fine. And after this most recent 4-8 slide, I will once again say, we are fine. Right now, we have had 2 bad stretches and one hot stretch. The sox, OTOH, have had two hot spells surrounding a cold spell. It all comes in streaks. And even with our most recent abysmal play, we still sit 1.5 games up in the Wild Card and only 4 back of Boston.

And there are reasons for optimism.

First of all, an offense like ours will not stay this dormant for long, especially with Nady coming back to sure up the bench and our O vs left handers. It will also allow us an option to improve the O on days when ARod needs to take a breather (Nady over Melky in a COF slot).

Secondly, the rotation is actually coming together. CC had been rolling before his bicep tendonitis spell which wont cost him any time. AJ is starting to get back on track after being embarassed in Boston (1ER, 16K in his last 13.1IP). And thats how his roll started last yr, I think it was the O's who completely obliterated him and after that he went on a 20 game roll that led to his ridiculous season. Andy Pettitte has been as consistent as we all expect. Joba has been inconsistent as we expected, although he has gone 6 or more innings in 3 of his last 4 starts. And if Wang's last start was any indication, his sinker may actually be starting to have a downward migration from belt high to knees high. If he can get back to any semblance of prior form, this rotation will be huge for us as the summer heats up (if this goddamn rain ever goes away).

And the bullpen has been much, much better since we made some personell changes. The BP ERA in April was over 6. The BP ERA in May was right around 4 (I think it was 4.09). And the June BP ERA was under 3 until the last game (thanks Tomko). And I assume that Tomko will be DFA'd soon anyway. To look at how effective the new bunch has been, one needs to look at the ERAs of the guys in the pen. If you subtract Tomko, which I expect to happen over the next couple of days, the Pen ERA of the guys out there now is 2.88.

So, overall, guess what. We'll be fine. Our pitching is coming around, our bullpen is coming around and our offense will heat up once again. Just gotta give it time.

6 pitch inning for Wang. Interesting game plan for Atlanta to swing at everything' date=' we'll have to see how it pans out.[/quote']

I think their game plan is probably to swing at pitches that look good...

Each batter saw a pitch they thought they could hit...
