True on many accounts. It was a very stress-free start. The Yankees gave him an early lead, and then poured it on. The Royals swung at every pitch, so he didn't put runners on base.

What I'm saying is that the quality of the pitcher doesn't necessarily drop off at a magical number, like 100. His velocity and location were the same for the first batter of the game as it was for the last batter of the game.

Remember...relievers are pitchers too. If you can give them a break, great. Works both way.

I absolutely agree. He probably felt great, and it wasn't a big deal at all to let him face those two extra batters. The only reason I expressed initial surprise is that I'm not used to seeing pitchers go out for that extra inning during their second start of the year.

But it worked out fine. The Yankees coaching staff clearly knew what they were doing, and it's a non-issue.

Defensively this team just looks lost sometimes.

Not having Teixeira really hurt them right there. They gave the batter a hit which is crazy and will probably be changed.

This could very easily turn into a rain-shortened loss. They're not going to score two runs next inning the way Meche is pitching with the bottom of the order coming up, and apparently it's raining really hard.

I know it's raining, but the defense is awful. That was a playable ball and Jeter never even touched it.

go to a rain delay. Nobody can move right now

Apparently it's not supposed to stop raining. They're going to let Meche finish off the Yankees in top of the fifth before they even think about calling it. The Yankees don't come back to KC.

The lineup today really doesn't give them too good a chance to win against Meche (Cabrera, Ransom, Molina, and Gardner). Ransom is lost right now. Him and Matsui have really been hurting this team so far.

Melky-Ransom-Molina-Gardner. Who thought that was a good idea? I understand that you want to give Damon the day off, but how bout you do that when Posada is playing, so we dont have a massive hole at the bottom of the order?

Chance there for the Royals to really bury the Yankees, but Joba gets out of it. I don't know how much they're going to be able to do against Meche today.

EDIT: Bad call costs the Yankees this inning.

4-3 Yanks

Joba 6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Should have been only 1 ER, but the Royal's scorer is stupid.

Assuming they don't come back this is an awful loss, just because they had it in the bag. They should have went to Rivera after Butler walked. That was a big error.

The bullpen (Coke) was awful today, clearly cost them the game.

But the 3-1 pitch to Butler was a strike, and that really changed the entire complexion of the inning.

I'm still a Coke fan. He gave up two hits on balls out of the strike zone. It happens.

Last I remember, Papelbon gave up a homer to Hunter on a pitch up and away. The problem was Veras. Two out walk.

Plus Kilo...I think you should worry about your own team, and the possible suspension of your best pitcher.

I don't think a suspension is in order. From what I saw, Beckett already began the windup when time was called, and when he saw it he decided to throw it instead of holding back, a common decision. It didn't look intentionally near the head at all. Those pitches get away all the time.

I think players should get suspended if they throw at a guys head. I thought Joba should have been when he threw at Youk, and the same here.

If you can't tell the difference between this and what Joba did you're pretty dumb.

There is a difference. Both should have be suspended.

Joba should have been suspended the first time he did it.
