After Brad Penny said...

"There were a few people I didn't get along with on the coaching staff that don't respect people," Penny said. "I mean, me and [Manager] Joe [Torre] got along fine. I just feel like nobody had my back there. You're in the clubhouse and you have players coming up to you saying coaches are saying this to them about you."

Larry Bowa replied with...

"Is this the same Penny that never went to meetings, that came late, left early, was never in shape, always had an excuse when things didn't go right, didn't help the young kids at all? Coaches get on players when they're lazy and don't work. I think he should worry about getting hitters out in the American League East and not worry about me. If Brad Penny wants to work and dedicate himself, he could probably be as good as he wants to be. He didn't do it with us."

Larry Bowa responds to Brad Penny's criticism

Bowa has always been a jerk and a loser as a coach and manager.

I agree. That's why I thought he was a perfect fit as a bench coach for the Yankees.

Sounds like Larry Bowa.

Sounds like Brad Penny.

Mr. Bowa can do as he sees fit, Mr. Penny, on the other hand, has to get in tune with a professional operation.

f*** Bowa...he still can't let go of a play in the 1977 NLCS where Davey Lopes was called safe (top of the ninth), allowing the Dodgers to tie Philly and win it in extra innings.

Says Bowa: "I know Davey says let it go. But he was out," said Bowa, who also managed the Phillies. "He knows he was out, and he can go look at that all day. One hundred thousand times he was out."

I love when Lopes came back and said it took 3 games to win that series (Dodgers won 3-1) and the Phillies failed to capture another game after winning game one in LA. He asked something like "so you're telling me after that play the Phillies gave up? One play in 4 games is what cost them the series? They just got beat by a better team."

Bowa conveniently leaves out that in that fateful inning, Luzinski had an opportunity to catch a long fly ball by Manny Mota but trapped it against the wall...and that the relay was mishandled by Ted Sizemore allowing a run to score and Mota to advance to third on the play. Mota then scored on the Lopes grounder.

Selective memory for Bowa...bottom line is the Phillies would have won that game if they didn't f*** up in the ninth...also in the other two losses they got beat 7-1 and 4-1.

Bowa is a friggin crybaby.

Penny is a slob. He may have good stuff but he has no idea how to use it and overthrows the second he gets in trouble. He also did not report his injury last year till he was yanked from the rotation. He continued to play several months with a bad shoulder only because it was a contract year. That was his choice. Not sure how many big night clubs are in Boston, but it won't be long till he finds them.

I still like Penny over Bartolo Colon....

Yea but the team is more dependent on Penny contributing than it was on Colon contributing

Not really. Last year our depth situation was Buchholz and Hansack. Masterson was an emergency move that happened to work. Without him, and with Schilling hurt, the Sox really needed Colon to do more than he did last year.

If nothing else, this year Bowden is now ready to come fill in where he wasn't last year, we have Buchholz, we know what Masterson can do, and if he starts in AAA and does reasonably well, Kris Johnson should be on the Kason Gabbard plan as well.

He may definitely come off as an ass, that I agree with, but as a coach Bowa is great I believe, especially as a third base coach. Great fiery personality who tries to motivate the young guys. Here is NY he had a great relationship with some of the young guys like Cano and Melky. But I can definitely see why you guys feel that way, s*** I definitely wouldn't want him to be the manager of my team.

Wasn't he dating Eliza Dushku then....maybe that had something to do with being late all the time! Ironically she's a sox fan.

If I could get Dushku, I'd be a Sox fan. She's amazing.
