Why would he be received poorly? There was no way he was coming back' date=' and he didn't go to a rival. He's not one of the Yankee greats, but he did well in his time.[/quote']

Yeah, I'd expect a polite applause. It's just always interesting to see a former player come back to some place where he spent a lot of his career.

It'll be interesting to see how he's received at Yankee Stadium.

I think he deserves a standing ovation, and will probably get it.

Def was one of the easiest signings to predict this offseason. Giambi will be the DH, Barton at 1b, Cust in the outfield. Barton's up and down year might have the A's FO thinking he'll be down in Triple A

Burrell to the Rays, Giambi to the A's. Both moves are solid (plus cheap) additions that are both capable of 30/100. Bradley for 3 years $30 million is expensive for the DL guy who can be a mental case

I see Griffey to the Mariners, Abreu to the Mets, and Manny back with the Dodgers. Also think the Nats will pull out their checkbook and get a package deal of Orlando Hudson/Adam Dunn

EDIT: Buster Olney is reporting that the 1 year deal is $5.25 million with the option year being worth $4 million. Aside from Boras' clients, its a buyers market right now

I'm not sure Cust is a good call to be playing the field.

I'm not sure that Billy Beane is all that worried about it. I'm actually surprised that he hasn't made a run at Dunn too.

I wonder if he returns to his old "scumbag/ trailer park/ I punch mommy at the dinner table look again with the long hair and goatee.

Where would he play?

Barton seems like a bust, so playing Giambi at first and Dunn at right or left is not out of the question.

Dunn in RF? In that park?

My guess is that Holliday is in LF, Giambi is at 1B, and Cust plays DH.

Cust is actually worse, and he would have to take the field if they keep Barton as the 1B, so why would Dunn in LF or RF be so far'fetched?

The outfield in Oakland is pretty spacious. I don't know if I would want one of the worst defensive outfielders trying to catch balls in RF of all places.

A 3-4-5 of Dunn, Holliday and Giambi would be pretty formidable though, don't you think?

It's not like Abreu's defense is much to speak of as well...' date='[/quote']

Yes, but who are we comparing him to? At least, Abreu actually has logged significant innings in RF, something Dunn hasn't done.

I mean, Dunn can hit the s*** out of the ball, but he'd be DREADFUL in RF in Oakland. At least, Abreu's getting away from the porch, and at least he can still run a little bit.

Dunn has f***ing anchors attached to his legs. I would guarantee you that his FRAA would be -25, or worse. Historically bad. Beane has done some crazy s*** before, like playing Jeremy Giambi in RF, but that only lasted a month. I don't get why he didn't learn his lesson from watching Ben Grieve slaughter every flyball attempt that went his way.

That Oakland staff isn't a great one, either. They'll need all the help they can get.
