Oklahoma jumped Texas! Bad ass!

I'm glad to see it, but I completely understand the beef that Texas has. This is shaping up to be quite the controversial year.

If Mizzou were to beat Oklahoma, that opens up the possibility of having Texas enter the national championship game. However, there could be some qualms about having a team that didn't win its conference championship game in the national championship game, so that's not a given. What is a given is the winner of Alabama/Florida punching a ticket. Personally, and I'm not saying this is what it should be, but I think if Mizzou beats Oklahoma, your national championship game is Alabama/Florida vs. USC. I actually wouldn't complain about that. Not ideal (I actually think it should be Oklahoma vs. Florida - thankfully that's a realistic possibility), but USC would be a better opponent to the SEC than in recent years. I wouldn't mind watching that.

I'm just happy that the Big Ten won't be making an appearance. f*** them.

Lots of backlash against the computers picking Oklahoma, mainly due to the H2H matchup between the two schools (Texas won by 10, for those who forget). The thing is, it can't be looked at Oklahoma and Texas by themselves, TTU is tied with the exact same record in the conference.

So the question becomes, what do you find to be most impressive?

TTU - Beat Texas by 6, lost to OU by 44

Oklahoma - Lost to Texas by 10, beat TTU by 44

Texas - Beat OU by 10, lost to TTU by 6

In my opinion, the nod goes to OU. The timing of the wins is also a huge factor, in my opinion. Oklahoma had more of a chance to recover after losing to Texas than Texas did after losing to TTU, and TTU after losing to OU.

Oklahoma is the right choice here.

And the better team, IMO. I also agree that USC should play the SEC Champ should Oklahoma fall to Mizzou. For that to happen, they'll have to jump them in the Harris and USA Today polls. Right now, Texas holds about a 6% lead in the Harris and Coaches' polls. They are up 21% in the computer average. It will be strange if two teams flip flop in the BCS while both are idle.

EDIT: Since they are idle, the computer averages won't change (not much at least). If you assume the percentages in the other two are fairly consistent for the slot, then you can approximate what the rankings would have to be (assuming equal amounts gained in each). To wipe out the 21%, they need a 22% gain in the other two, 11% each. Assuming USC gets ranked #2, about 91%, then Texas will have to fall to #6 (#5 is about 84%, #6 is about 75%). I don't see that happening. Can you put 5 teams ahead of Texas if Oklahoma loses?

Usc hasnt played anyone worth a s***

they dont play a conference championship game either and we never know how good usc is till the last game of the season due to the lack of competetion from the pac 10.

Texas beat Ou straight up,beat em kind of easy too once the dust settled in the 2nd half.

They deserve to go

but how do you deny Alabama a shot if they lose? they won all over the sec this year and if they do lose they will still have as good a record as usc,ou,texas or ttech?

Once again we probably wont know who the best team in the nation is.

but lets start with what we know.

we do know Texas is better than OU,they proved it on the field...

so obviously Ou gets the nod over Texas...?

this is one f***ed up way of conducting business

thank God penn st lost...and what about the Utes?

I know they play New Mexico St and San Jose but they havent lost yet either and we saw Boise hang 50on OU a couple years ago as a BCS team and beat them in OT.

Florida is on fire, Bama is real good,I love that Sooner team and that qb in texas with his roomate as a wideout are a lot of fun...

Its been a great season with a great weekend coming up and a s*** load of bowl games to enjoy

the only hang up with college football is crowning a champion...I can still live with it being as is.

its flawed but its beautiful just the same...

y'all ever read this??

Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners Rivalry Moves Straight to the Top; Fan Nearly Loses Scrotum

by CriticalFanatic8/23/07

Texas vs Oklahoma, the Red River Rivalry, has always been in the conversation as the most heated college football rivalry. Michigan - Ohio State is the best as far as I'm concerned (biased Big Ten guy here), USC-ND is outstanding, Florida-Georgia, so many to list that are each heated in their own right. But there's no longer a conversation.

The Red River Shootout just went straight to the top. An Oklahoma fan has been charged with assault for attacking a man who wore a Longhorns t-shirt into a bar. That probably happens a lot, you're thinking. Two guys cheering for rivals get into a silly fight drunk at a bar. Right, but does one nearly lose his scrotum?

Thomas said Beckett, whom he had never met, called him "everything under the sun" for wearing a Longhorns T-shirt into the bar. He said he and his friend sat at a table in the corner and tried to ignore the other man, but the other man kept screaming at him. Thomas said he decided he'd had enough after about 20 minutes of Beckett's abuse so he went to the bar to pay his tab. When he turned around, he said Beckett grabbed his crotch and refused to let go.

Thomas hit the other man several times before several bar patrons intervened, but Thomas said Beckett didn't let go until Thomas heard his scrotum tear and blood ran down his leg.

Note to self: do not; I repeat, DO NOT wear anything remotely burnt orange when traveling through Oklahoma. Screw it, just don't even visit Oklahoma.

Wells wife, Stacey, is from Oklahoma.

when i was going down the 1 way street in Charlestown at 50mph in reverse she was the only person in the car who wasnt terrified ....and that includes yours truly.

A different breed of people, sheep f***ers, land grabbers, a land of ex convicts/cowboys/Guardians and preachers.

Oral Roberts is in Oklahoma, nothing more needs to be said.

What about TTU? Why do they get left out? If you put Texas over Oklahoma based on head to head, then TTU should be over Texas because they beat them, and if you put TTU ahead of Texas, well Oklahoma beat them, and 'round and 'round it goes.

I agree, USC played a lame schedule, but is that their fault? They put a decent ACC team, the preseason #2, and Notre Dame on their non-conference schedule. Is their loss to Oregon St on the road worse than Florida's to Mississippi at home? I'm not taking sides here, but there's a good case for USC. There's a good case for each Big 12 school. There's a good case for each SEC school, even if 'Bama loses like you suggested.

I hear people say the BCS is good if only because it generates so much discussion. I don't agree. If something requires fixing, then it isn't good until it's fixed no matter how much discussion the problem generates. Until there is an 8 team playoff, like there is in every other classification of college football, the system is broken.

Interesting note from the UCLA/USC rivalry. Both programs are interested in restoring the tradition where each team wear's their home uniforms for their annual game -- so obviously USC will wear their reds, UCLA will wear their light blues. However, since it's against the rules to wear your home uniforms on the road, USC will have to give up one timeout per half as a pentalty, which Pete Carroll is willing to part ways with. I think Carroll and Neuheisel have an agreement that the home team will call a timeout immediately to start each half so both teams only have two.

Birmingham radio is reporting Tommy Tuberville is out at Auburn.

There are also some strong rumors going around that he will be the next HC at Mississippi State. I don't know if it will happen or not, but I would LOVE that.

The only man who resented offense more than Tommy Tuberville was Jackie Sherrill.

Is Tubberville a step up from Sly Croom?

I dont know about that, he was given the keys to the cadillac and ended up disappointing year after year.

His other big gig at Ole Miss wasnt all that impressive and he did have the best qb in the southeast in Eli Manning...

That camo is badass.

Florida will beat Alabama by 14+.

Why are there no fans at the ACC Championship game?

And VA Tech vs. Cincinnati is a pretty s***** BCS game.

Because it's the ACC Championship game.

They couldn't sell out the ACC Championship game when it was in Jacksonville and Florida State was playing in 2005.

Yeah, it is in Tampa and neither team is close. But still, that place was empty.

Also' date=' I'm a bit hazy on this, but does the Alabama-Florida winner automatically go to the Championship game?[/quote']

There's nothing that says they automatically will, but it's basically a gaurantee anyway. AP #1 and #2.

Not 'automatically', but yeah, the winner will go to the National Championship game. If Alabama wins, they remain #1 -- if Florida wins, Alabama will fall behind Texas and Oklahoma, while Florida jumps at least Texas, putting them at worst, at #2.

The controversy would be with Oklahoma losing the Big XII Championship game -- would they put Texas in? Or would USC jump them since Texas didn't even play for their conference championship.

Whoa. Did I just see a DAVID GARRARD commercial?

Yeah, and boy do I miss Zaxby's. That's some good god damn chicken.

Julio Jones is amazing.

We got a Zaxby's about a year ago. I love it.

And just like that, Bama ties it up.

Disastrous play by Arenas on that kickoff.

Meyer should've manned up and went for it on fourth, though... I'd take my chances with two yards to gain and Tebow at QB.
