This series is going to set the tone for the rest of the season. If we show up and play well, that could easily catipult us into a divison race with Tampa. If we dont, then we will be struggling for the wild card if you ask me. This game worries me, because over the last 2-3 seasons Wake has sucked big time against the Yankees. Go Sox!

Huge game tonight, at least for the Yankees. It is important for the Yankees to win pretty much every time Pettitte and Mussina pitch considering the state of the rest of the rotation. Wakefield has not been as good against the Yankees in recent years, and the Yankees bats are starting to heat up. I think the Yanks do some scoring tonight, so it'll come down to whether Pettitte can keep the Red Sox bats in check.

This is kind of exciting, because for me it seems like the stretch run is starting tonight. The baseball should start getting that playoff intensity, which always makes things more exciting.

I wouldnt put THAT much stock into tonight's game simply because it is by far the worst pitching matchup of the series from a Red Sox point of view. I expect to win 2/3 with us dropping tonight's game.

I'll be happy winning one of three.

From the Boston Globe Blog:

Outfielder Joe Thurston (.314 10 homers, 62 RBIs with Triple-A Pawtucket this season) is here but has not been activated. He would likely get added to the roster if the Red Sox put J.D. Drew (missed the last six games with a back injury) on the DL. A decision has not yet been made on Drew, who went to a spine specialist this morning in New York.

This just in from the Red Sox medical staff: After being examined by the spine specialist, it was determined that J.D. Drew is spineless.

While I don't agree that the bottom 4 is weak because Lowrie is hitting the ball, once the order flips there are 4 out machines in a row.

EDIT: Just noticed Bailey, he's still TBD IMO.
