Put everyone on the market. See what prospects you can get. Build for 2010.
Are you Billy Beane? Go away. I'm too old too watch shiyt for two years with the hope of being good in 2010.

Sox are gonna win this Division despite the FO sitting on its hands and despite Manny playing half speed.

Manny, Lowell, Crisp.... even Youkilis... couldn't hurt to see what is offered over the next few days.

Get Lou Marson, Teagarden Andy LaRoche, ect. All while opening up a lot of money for Burrell, Dunn, Sheets or whomever else does it for you.

The 2010 comment was meant in jest.

They aren't winning this year if Theo doesn't do anything.

You really think so JHB?

This team is GASPING FOR AIR right now.

I really think so.

I don't see an easy road back to the ALDS, nor do I see any guarantee. The Rays are young and talented; the Yankees are the best team that money can buy; even the Blue Jays may not yet be done.

What I know is that this team has a whole lot of talent, and that in September it will have access to more talent, men like Van Every and Kottaras and Carter and Bowden. What I know is that this race is too close to call.

What I know is that, regardless of what I write in analysis, I will root for this team for as long as they have a fighting chance for victory. And I know, too, that the Red Sox still have far more than a mere fighting chance.

Let's not sell the team, TheKilo. Let's enjoy the rest of another great season.

I'm usually one of the more optimistic people here...but let me be perfectly clear when I say this:

The Red Sox, as currently constructed, will not make the playoffs this year.

And I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong.

Kilo, if you're watching the game now, stop. It will only make things worse. (EDIT: Written before Pedroia's hit).

Seriously though, I disagree. The Red Sox are a really talented team. After today we'll be 2 games back in the East and 2 games up in the WC assuming the Twins lose. Thats not ideal, but its not a horrible situation. Our pythag puts us 5 games above both TB and NYY. But you probably already know that. Just look on the bright side: we have 2 months of baseball left, and if the season ended now, we'd be in the playoffs. Plenty of time.

Wow - you have come around - huh?

Of course - I agree with you - but why do you think that we won't make the play-offs?

Edit - when I say I agree with you - I mean that they won't make play-offs. I don't agree to trade everyone who are good on this team.

Could be. :dunno:

I see the Red Sox, of the three contenders in the AL East, as the best team, but I certainly see a less than 50-50 chance of winning as I type.

But the season is not over, and a few bad games end neither our world nor our pennant race.

Amen. It's not great, but it's not sky is falling bad quite yet.

You know, when I read that TheKilo had started a thread titled "Blow It Up," I originally had high hopes that it might concern the need to replace Fenway Park, the War in Iraq, fully-functional life-sized inflatable dolls, or some other topic more appealing than despondent cries of doom.

Meh. Can't win 'em all.

It's not all bad. I know this team has given us a lot of reasons to not like our chances, but they've given us a lot of reasons to like our chances. We're talking about a team that showed us last October that they have a lot of fight in 'em.

I want Buchholz out. I know, he's young, he's shown tremendous potential before, but I just don't see it. Unless he can turn it around before the end of the year, he won't be successful for this team in the long haul. I want Manny to stay, at least until the end of the year. Youkie better be staying as well.

Guys - give me a reason for optimism then. Something. Anything.
After tomorrow, the Red Sox don't have to play the Angels anymore and the Yankees get to play them 9 times with Texiera. They have a 4 game series this weekend with Rasner and Ponson pitching two of those games.

Please come in off the ledge.

Plus, the Yankees are about to drop two in a row to the O's at home.

The Red Sox aren't the Mariners.

The Red Sox are from Boston, not Topeka.

Blowing it up is a bit much.

All the components of the team have above average talent, but have suffered from inconsistency. The thing they have yet to do this year is really click together at the same time for a decent stretch, like they did last year. It seems like when the starters are going well, the BP lets them down, or when both do well, the bats hide.

At the same time, they are still kind of relearning roles out in the BP. Okajima and MDC appear to finally be settling in. Hansen has been identified as garbage. Masterson looks capable.

Will it all click? Don't know, but I'll tune in to find out, because if it does, I like their chances, and not just for the playoffs, but for the whole shebang.

Aubrey Huff just missed taking Mo upper deck by a couple of feet and two pitches later took him yard. You don't see that very often.

10) Rumors that Jason Johnson was recently acquired to allow Josh Beckett a few days of rest during August and September are not true.

9) Dustin Pedroia's testicles were recently determined to comprise 17% of his body mass.

8) Heidi Watney

7) Disregard the rumors that A-Rod was involved with Madonna--those rumors were designed to distract us from his true affections. :o

6) Exactly what have the Rays ever won? And how do you get tougher by removing the word "Devil" from your team name and by putting a ray of bloody sunshine on your team emblems?

5) Justin Masterson is swiftly learning how to play rhythm band in the bullpen.

4) Chris Carter is still hitting .667.

3) The less Curt Schilling plays, the less we hear him in interviews.

2) When we hear that we sent Manny Ramirez and cash to some other ballclub, it might just mean that we've covered part of his salary but it could also mean that we've cleared the backup catcher spot.

1) If all else fails, Larry Lucchino still has that deal-with-the-devil thing going on.

Here's a positive, at least they didn't get our hopes up with a late rally only to shatter them tonight like what just happened in the Bronx.
