2008 stats...

Tejada: .284, .322, .422, .743 in 405 AB's

Lowrie: .284, .345, .386, .733 in 85 AB's

Tejada is owed about $4.6MM more this year, plus $13MM in '09

id try to center a deal around Hansen and Cora, then add a prospect or 2

thats about the most id give up, and Houston might have to eat a little contract. Lugo would have to be dealt elsewhere and Im pretty sure Houston doesnt want him back.

some tejada quotes from tonight

“I wouldn’t be intimidated to go play in Boston"

"I like the rivalry,” he said of the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry. “I like to play with other teams and those types of things. That’s why I like to win. I like to be in competition. I think that the more pressure there is the better ballplayer I am.”

I'm torn. I don't think he adds much to the team at this point, but who would I rather have up in an important situation: Tejada or Lugo? Tejada any day of the week. That said, Lugo makes fewer outs than Tejada (per his OBP), but Tejada's OPS is considerably better (though nothing to brag about).

His numbers this year are pretty weak so his price would need to be low. SS is one of the few spots in the lineup that the Sox can improve without dumping an already decent player and I really think they need to shake something up this year.

Pedroia

Youkilis

Ortiz

Manny

(Drew should hit here)

Lowell

Tejada

Varitek

Ellsbury

That's not a bad lineup... I don't know. Don't trade much, be willing to pay the money for this year and next, somehow swallow Lugo's contract for the next two years and I guess it'd be fine. I'm sure Tejada would like to come and I imagne he'd be a good fit in the clubhouse and on the field.

Overall it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I would just keep Lowrie at SS and not pursue a deal. Tejada got off to a ridiculous pace the first month or two of the season (hitting around .345 for a while) but since then he's fallen pretty hard. It's been a while since he has really been hitting the ball consistently and he's definitely past the prime of his career. I would stick with JL and focus on improving the 'pen. This lineup will score runs.

Since May 3:

Tejada - .250/.288/.345 (302 PA)

Lugo - .255/.368/.325 (195 PA)

Tell me why we want to take on a MORE expensive SS?

I'd probably chalk that up to the fact that he moved to the NL after his entire career in the AL so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt there.

Do you also give him the benefit of the doubt for playing in one of the most hitter friendly parks in the league?

So is Camden Yards, what's your point?

So is Camden Yards' date=' what's your point?[/quote']

My point is he wasn't hitting well there or Minute Maid, and he makes more than Lugo.

Why do we want him?

he batted .296 with a .357 OBP with 18 HRs and 81 RBI in 133 games for Baltimore last year, a year in which you could make a great case that his heart wasn't totally in it

aside from the obvious defensive upgrade he is over Lugo, to me he remains a substantially better bat as well

but in the end, I don't see them taking his contract anyway while still holding onto Lugo

Last year =/= this year

I've already theorized his performance this year as being a result of learning NL pitchers (see: J.D. Drew)

also, why is money being brought up as an issue? the Sox are already spending $10 mil less on payroll this year than they did last and in the end, are any of you John Henry's financial adviser?

Rotoworld -

Miguel Tejada said he was informed by GM Ed Wade that he would not be traded prior to the deadline.

Or, presumably, after the deadline, since there's always the chance that he could clear waivers. It's unclear if anyone was really targeting Tejada anyway. Reports that the Red Sox were have been denied.

Is the extra contract worth the marginal upgrade of Miguel Tejada?

depends how marginal you think the upgrade is

Really I think that the best thing for us to do in this situation here is to keep the current roster there is no reason the Miguel Tejada should or would come here. Honestly Miguel Tejada is not that good in my eyes save Lugo for a trade with manny or something along those lines. What really need to happen is we need to go after Matt Holiday of the Rocks. Manny for matt=GREAT DEAL
