WFAN said that the Yankees believe Santana is going to Boston with the Lester and Crisp deal.

oh good God let this be true...

I will believe it when I see it done. Like last summer - Dye trade with Chicago was 'done' so many times before lunch on deadline day. Somehow we landed with Mr. Fatso at the end of the day.
Posted
the difference with the Dye trade is that the Red Sox weren't willing to give away the chips necessary to get Dye. This time, it looks like both sides have agreed on the chips Minnesota would get, now its about which package they'd prefer

Not done yet. Its looking like the sox are at the point where when negotiations re-open they can push this thing to get done by sweetening the deal just a little bit with a Lars Anderson or someone like that and it will probably be done. Then... the dreaded negotiation. At least this is exciting now where as before it was just like a rumor spiral of death that changed every three seconds...

Anywhoo, I haven't slept in like 30 hours, and my friends are supposed to call me if something happens. See you then.

Beckett, Santana, DiceK, Schilling, Buchholz... jesus christ.

Beckett should be the first person they call and let him know he's the team's #1 and the door is open to discuss a contract extension.

I keep hearing this. Why?

Beckett, in the midst of a crappy season, signed an extension for 3/30. He knew the risk of taking the guaranteed money, which would be if he outperformed that contract.

He's going to have to suck it up for two seasons before he gets his huge payday.

Couple of thoughts:

Some of us have raised whether the Sox were not really that interested in dealing prospects and perhaps were upping the ante for the Yanks. How do we know the Yankees weren't doing exactly that?

Also, who is to say that the Twins don't take get as far along as they can with the Sox and then take one last stab with the Yanks saying "we're about to do a deal...if you can sweeten your offer with player X we'll trade with you, otherwise we've got to do this other deal?"

Until this thing is done officially, I'm not taking anything for granted.

So its true. The twins value both Lester and Ellsbury higher than Hughes. What idiots.

Why?

The total package of the Red Sox makes more baseball sense for the Twins. Adding Lester to the Coco/Masterson/Lowrie package allows Minnesota to hedge their bests and not put all of their eggs in one basket with Hughes.

If Kennedy was added to the Yankee deal, do you really think we're having this discussion?

I beginning to see why Steinbrenner was getting so frustrated with the Twins GM. Make up your f***ing mind already!!!

From the Globe's Nick Cafardo (2:18 p.m.): Johan Santana's agent, Peter Greenberg indicated moments ago that he has not begun contract negotiations with any team at this stage, an indication a deal between Boston and the Twins might still have a ways to go. Major League sources have also indicated there have been no discussions between the Twins and Red Sox yet today, though talks are planned later in the day. The medical information the Twins sought on Jon Lester was simply "due diligence" according to one official, and that nothing was imminent with the Twins and Red Sox, though that could change rapidly after their meeting later today. Greenberg remains a key to the deal because the Sox have to agree on a multi-year deal with Santana in order for him to waive his full no-trade clause.

Because Hank gave that stupid deadline and took himself out of the negotiation. Why would he do that if he is just jacking up the price? He knew Twins will settle for the Lester package.

Could not agree more.

Reminds me what I thought of the last game of the world series when the Rockies kept coming back to us - 'Can we just get this thing done already'.

NASHVILLE -- Just because the New York Yankees are out of the picture on Johan Santana doesn't mean the Red Sox necessarily have a clear path for the Twins' ace.

This afternoon the Twins were meeting with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who have jumped into the Santana negotiations at the eleventh hour. Previously, the Angels had been focusing on Florida Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera, but have been stuck trying to complete a deal.

There is said to be a division among Angels executives over which player to pursue -- Cabrera or Santana.

The Twins have told the Angels that Jared Weaver would have to be part of a deal for Santana to give Minnesota another young starter as part of the mix. Other names expected to be talked about include shortstop prospect Brandon Wood.

The Twins and Red Sox have not spoken since early this morning.

and apparently, theres a lot of buzz that the Sox deal would be a 5-1 deal. So whos the 5th guy? Id like to keep Lars, but the Twins might need a replacement for Morneau. Send Kalish as the 5th guy.

ahhh s***, the Angels now? We just need to seal the deal now, and move on.

Reading comprehension on this board has slipped lately. The Twins told the Angels what they wanted, the Angels didn't necessarily offer him to the Twins.

I'm going to personally march over to Opryland and get this deal done' date=' provided we keep Ellsbury.[/quote']

No, you need to get busy on Pajama Night at Fenway.

UPDATE, 12-4-07 at 2:04pm: According to Sean McAdam, the Twins will also meet with the Angels this afternoon to discuss Santana. The Twins would want Jered Weaver and Brandon Wood for starters. McAdam says the Red Sox and Twins haven't spoken since this morning. Meanwhile Joe Christensen says there's lobby buzz about the Red Sox/Twins deal becoming a 5-for-1.

3rd time it's been posted.

And what makes the younger Weaver so great? He struggled a lot last season. I really can't see the Angles committing $20 million+ to Santana, especially in the wake of the Hunter contract as well.

Well for one thing, he's better than Lester and (at this point) Hughes.

I thought Santana said he will go only to the Yankees or Red Sox.

exactly what i was thinking. of course he reserves the right to change his mind but this is the last thing we have heard from santana is it not?
