The Guardians would clinch homefield and play against the Yankees. 2004 rematch of the Angels and Red Sox

Why would they play the Yankees if the Yankees win the East? Wouldn't we technically be the "lowest seed", and play the team with the top record?

Someone help me understand this...

Tito brings Paps in when the sox are down 2-1...But sticks with Gagne when they were up 2-1 and Gagne was gagging again.

Yeah, I know last night woulda been a 4 out save, but there's a day off right around the corner, so get the fkn win.

Varitek and his f***ing fastball fastball fastball

All pitches he called for were his favorite pitch. Adams is looking for fastball, why not the old Mr. Splitty?

Friday yes the Sox do have Josh Beckett but at the same time, the struggling offense will be seeing old buddy Kazmir

This s*** makes me not want to watch anymore games this year. I mean it. Really, I do, I shouldn't watch another Sox inning, it's not good for my blood pressure....hitting sucks, pen sucks, Tito sucks, ..wait...

You know, as badly as things have gone recently, if the sox can turn it around it could be BETTER than if they coasted in to the playoffs...yeah that's how I'll spin it.

Beckett vs Kazmir Friday. I'm tuning in.

You cannot blame Tek for Paps dropping behind 3-0. He had to go fastball.

Yeah, it's not like Matt Stairs was up 0-2.

Oh wait, that was last night.

touche. I think tonight might drive home the fact that this bullpen is totally spent. Papelbon was very uncharacteristic. Got way behind, then got lit up by a terrible hitter. The panic is palpable, it is too bad tomorrow is an off day.

On 3-2 pitch' date=' its time to break out the splitter. Adams was looking for fastball, he was ready for it, middle of the plate, game over[/quote']

Yes, throw a pitch designed to go out of the zone, with the bases loaded, on a 3-2 count.

Do you think before you say this crap?

walking the bases loaded and bringing in Papelbon was a HORRIBLE decision. #1 Paps isn't a GB pitcher, you give him zero room for error and down 3-0 you have to throw him 3 straight fastballs.

I actually thought it was the right decision. he got the strikeout of Lind, he just didn't execute to Adams.

My question is, if he's willing to bring him in with the bases loaded down a run tonight, why was Francona glued to the bench last night when we were UP a run with two outs and the bases loaded?

I think Francona is cracking. I think the team is cracking.

The sox right now are going through what they went through last season around Aug 1st. The mental mistakes are absolutely debilitating. Lugo not running, Papelbon inexplicably falling behind an awful hitter, Buchholz not covering well at 1st. Poor game all around, and if the sox had played well mentally, they take the game 2-1.

Maybe they wouldn't have taken the game, but if Lugo runs hard we're talking about AT LEAST a 2-2 tie game.

Last year was about injuries and an ill stocked pitching staff. It was a completely different story.

I see this year differently. The Skanks had their s*** week four weeks ago in Orange County and Wayne County. The Sox are having their's now in f***ing York. I still find it hard to believe the Septic Tanks will finish the season with no more losses, and if they do, as I've said for a while, God (or more like Satan) bless them.

You know what's hysterical to me? YOU GUYS HAVE THE LEAD. If you read this stuff, you've all but given up the division. We have 10 games left, 6 on the road. We're also down a game to you in the loss column. It's amazing to see how the majority of you have conceded the division. Amazing.

I've been saying this the whole time, man. You're not used to it at this point? It seems like it's happened every time we've lost a game since the All-Star break, whether we're 2.5 up or 6 up or 9 up. The team itself does deserve to lose the division because they've had chance after chance to bury the Yankees and they never did it.

I'd rather see the team get healthy at the cost of the division, though. Win the 3 or so games we need to clinch a playoff spot and then rest those that need rest.

This is the question I had as I listened to the highlights from last night on my way in to work. No Papelbon when we have the lead and an RP in diaper fill mode, but then he uses him when we are down to protect a one run deficit, wtf?

I completely agree with you, Kilo. If they don't win it this year, he needs to go. Although, if they don't win and he doesn't go, I think that may signal that some of his strange moves have come from above. Whatever the case, I'd like to see the source of what's going on pay the piper if it doesn't pan out.

This is an excellent point....I wonder if the brain trust has decided it's better to punt the division and "try to get healthy for the playoffs."

Say what you want about the Yankees, but Jeter, Matsui, and Posada are all playing hurt. Hell, everyone's hurt this time of year, but only one team is playing their "A" team.

Oh please. I'm in NYC. Skankee fans had their knives in this team all through June. Mussina is suddenly a hero again, but four weeks ago you people were treated him like he'd raped a 90 year old grandma. I love being lectured on loyalty and optimism from people who panic the very second things aren't going well for their team.

I for one ain't conceding anything. The pace NYY are on is difficult to sustain. 10 for 12 right now. The Mets were 10 for 12 going into last Friday.....:harhar:

Guys who led from Day two don't deserve to win the division? All because the Yankees are on one of the hottest streaks in the history of baseball? I've heard it all now.

Yeah, Sox, you pathetic losers, you don't deserve to win. Jeez.

Why in the hell was Papelbon throwing Adams a fastball on a 3-2 count Adams was sitting on a fastball. This team needs a boost somewhere because the offense has been DEAD lately. And the bullpen hasn't been great the last couple of days either the Sox need to smarten up fast we only have a 1.5 game lead on the Yankees with alot of baseball left. If they want to win the Division they need to smarten up quick and start playing some baseball.

He was throwing a fastball because it's incredibly stupid to throw a pitch that's destined to go out of the strike zone (see: the splitter) on a 3-2 count with the bases loaded.
