  1. The current Yankee stadium happens to stand in the shell of the old one, but the House that Ruth Built was razed in 1974. In any case I won't miss visting the dump. Typical Skankee fan arrogance-"do what we want-we're the legends here."
  2. Guys who led from Day two don't deserve to win the division? All because the Yankees are on one of the hottest streaks in the history of baseball? I've heard it all now. Yeah, Sox, you pathetic losers, you don't deserve to win. Jeez.
  3. Yankee fans had their long knives into Moose three weeks ago. They treated far worse than Drew or anyone else has been treated in Boston. Yet surprise surprise here they are praising him yet again.
  4. I think if the Sox lose the division because of Gagne and then don't win the pennant THeo should be fired. And with him Francona will probably go. Winning the division has been paramount to me all year because of what it means. Losing the division to them at this point is about as miserable as I can imagine. Maybe it's because I live in NYC and have to listen to them. Losing the division is not only a mental shock but it just seems so wrong. RIght now this is a mini-slump-4 of 5. But the idea that the Sox could play relatively consistently all season long and still lose to them just boggles my mind.
  5. I guess I don't see the evidence for them going 6-5 in the next 11, when the only series they lost in the last month were a random one at TB and to NYY. So going with the trends, I foresee at most three more losses - one in each remaining series after this - and a record over the last 2 weeks of 8-4. I don't see that as limping but rather playing the way they've been playing all along. I understand your point about the hypo, but I don't see the background facts supporting that scenario.
  6. What is on Flying Patriot Man's nose in your pic?
  7. I didn't see last night, but I don't see how you can say they "played like crap" in the Yankee series. Two pitchers peformed poorly in one game, and one starter was left in too long in the other. That was about it. If anyone played poorly it was the Yankees. They were completely asleep through 7 on Friday and rolled over on Saturday, but because of the pop in in their lineup they got away with it. The Sox have played steady as she goes .600 baseball since the break. Meanwhile the Septic Tanks have had stretches of 8-2 followed by 2-8. I expect them to continue in the .600 to .650 range the next two weeks (8-4 from here out sounds about right), and play about that pace when they get into the post season.
  8. Fans are funny these days. They want athletes to "man up", but they excuse them for the most weak minded things and in fact think they are so weak minded that they must constantly be "motivated" by the manager. Shelly Duncan admits that playing big league ball is an unlikely dream come true. He needs to start acting like he believe that and knows his place.
  9. Dude, did you just accuse me of being a Yankees fan? Wow.
  10. Obviously not posted by an editor of Boston Dirt Dawgs.
  11. This board is surprisingly sanquine at the moment, despite the lead now being 3.5. It's a very different sort of Red Sox fan experience, which leads me to hope this is a different kind of Red Sox team.
  12. Over on the Mets board they are screaming that a rook didn't get his first ever start tonight and that they went with a proven (to be bad) journeyman. They cited Jacob Ellsbury as evidence that it would've been appropriate to do so. Now regarding the Sox, is it wrong to admit I'm nervous? No, this isn't about the other team wanting it more. This isn't HS football. It's about some shortcomings in the rotation at the moment coming at an inopportune time.
  13. You know I came to this forum prepared to say flat out "Don't boo the guy" but the money thing is legit. You make that kinda dough and don't produce, you're gonna hear about it. If he was a CEO making kind of money and the company was tanking, he'd hear about it. Why should he be let off the hook because he's playing baseball? I spent the money it costs to go to Sox games on a regular basis I'd feel entitled to boo. However at some point I'd realize that all it was doing was stirring up negative feelings in me and had no affect on the game.
  14. Rician, your comment reminds of when KARIM GARCIA got involved in the 2003 fracas and jumped the security guard. All the names who've been involved in that rivalry over the years, including those on the field, and KARIM GARCIA thinks he can go around starting crap?
  15. I think it was a fairly dumb jock's idea of being funny that was not met well. He shouldn't have done that though. Why a kid would want Shelly Duncan's autograph is beyond me. That would require looking at his face, which is an unpleasant act in and of itself. As for whining about "Yankees suck" cheers, I think anyone who has a sig that screams "F ONE OF MY OWN TEAM'S PLAYERS" has forfeited all credibility on the subject of vulgarity.
