that was one hell of a pitch. I actually liked the Ortiz matchup rather than the Pedroia one. Papi may have great numbers off Mo, but that is bolstered by an initial 4 for 8 (if I remember correctly) and of late he hasnt been as good off him. Plus, Mo likes lefties.

Another classic. A rotten classic, but another classic nonetheless. As a fan of the game above all else (as yet another remote bites the dust) ....there is no denying this amazing rivalry. And dammit Papi...that was ball 3. I'm just saying.

Highs and lows and we won the division regardless. And, I have no doubt in my mind it isn't the last of the highs and lows. Crap. I could take one playoffs w/out the antacids and therapy. And booze.

Please go Tigers!

Well a good game for the guys from the Bronx. Even you guys have to admit, it was an extremely exciting series. Even your blowout win was close until the 7th.

Ha! MWID. I'll admit that. Predictable.

You're like a lifetime movie but w/ less obvious plot twists. I come from a less crunchy granola time when the vitriol was real w/out seething antipathy underscoring a passive aggressive pseudo fake respectful tone where no....we can't just get along.

Bill Lee dislocating his shoulder on a sucker punch. I really really hate the MFY's and their fans w/ few exceptions. It's intrinsic. Period. No apologies w/ apologies to Kurt Cobain. Most here are just puppies w/ no memory...but yeah...it's personal and if you understand history you get that. It isn't the end of the world....far more important goings on out there than this microcosm. I know that. I also know I'm not about to defer to the current feel good mentality either. I yam what I yam.

I really thought Clemens was about to do a reenactment of a playoff start vs. the A's (1990?) where he has a borderline call go against him and he pulls a nutty.

That Mienkxxxxx play was key.

I come away with no positives from the losses.

No "that was exciting" for me.

No "damn, this is like October baseball," feel good, I'm just happy to be a fan ********.

That fkn series sucked and I harbor the same contempt for ARod's posturing and Jeter's fistpump and Clemens ego and HGH-fueled Diesel Dome of a head, and the fair weather Yankee fans that will certainly come out for at least a day or two as I did before the series.

well said.

I woulda been bitter as hell if we had lost on a Ortiz hit.

as it is, it was a great game for me to watch cuz we won.

I'm going to assume something was wrong with Papelbon as I don't think I've ever seen him with such flat pitches.

You had that last year.

The playoffs are all about therapy and booze, no matter who you play. And I'm sure last year's alternative wasn't great for you.

Is Francona ill? He looked terrible yesterday in the dugout interview. His face looked bloated, and he looked ill. I know that he has has numerous health issues. I've been out of town for a week, so I was wondering if I missed some news about him. Maybe he just had a bad cold.

Home from work. Last night I went to the game and didnt get back until 230 am, had to wake up at 630 this morning lol. So nup update at that time

I must say even after the tough loss, Im feeling confident as ever. The three Sox starters stepped up for this series, silencing the tough Yankee bats. For any series of 3 starters to hold that lineup to 6 runs is pretty good Id say. If the Sox and Yankees do meet up again, this time the Sox would have Manny back. Might Ortiz have gotten a better pitch with just the image of Manny Ramirez in the on deck circle?

Couple of highlights outside of the game

-- I loved how they set up for the game to start. Clemens and Schilling warming up in the bullpens at the same time. As they are about to leave, the song "Final Countdown" starts playing. The bullpen doors open, both walk out and cross each other's paths. No word is spoke or even a glance

-- Another fan decided to venture out on the outfield. After Hinske's double he ran to the infield, grabbed Cano's hat, and put it on as he ran toward the Monster. 2 security guards slammed him down to the ground, standing ovation enused for the idiot

Well, you could say that the yankees bats were a little dead too as they started their lull in Toronto and carried it into Boston. At the same time, we demolished your two reasons for this lead, Paps and Okajima. Your rotation deserves some credit for where you guys are, but your bullpen deserves the lions share as your team essentially doesnt blow leads. This is twice now that OkiPap was handed a lead in your park and squandered it. In the meantime, Beckett was the only pitcher who really impressed me. The kid is a monster and if he keeps pitching like that he will be great for a long time. I thought DiceK was mediocre at best, leaving way too many pitches up in the zone and missing badly many times as well. We just didnt take advantage. And Schilling was good, but his rapid decline in stuff has to be alarming. He was throwing 87mph fastballs in that 8th inning, and that is on the ESPN gun which is notoriously high (just like there was no way Clemens hit 96 in the 5th inning).

Overall, I thought the story was how poorly our top 2 pitched. Wang couldnt get the ball down and seemed to shy away from the sinker which was puzzling to say the least. And Pettitte just couldnt stay out of the middle of the plate. To come away with 2 of 3 while playing as poorly as we did should send a message. Right now, the yankees are the better team, there is no question about it. Unfortunately, an early season horrific slump killed our chances of winning the division. But if we meet in the ALCS, it should be a wild and crazy time.

Ok the gun in Fenway Park showed Schilling's fastball ranging from 88-91, I hardly believe Jacko that his fastball is now at the mid 80s (or lower). Schilling deserves a lot more credit than that. He has had to re-invent himself mid season, and he has been damn good since coming back from the DL. If he keeps pitching like he is down the strech, Ill gladly take it

P.S. that wont happen every time of Okajima/Papelbon blowing the lead. Ooh thats twice now, trouble is afoot. Paps isnt like Foulke who's knees start to buckle (or PMS starts) when he has a blown save or gets criticized
