he'll fade

You mean he won't be a 1.17 OPS player the rest of the way?????

With his defense, if he puts up a .900 OPS that's more than acceptable.

I think at this point, he may have just enough value to where we could swing a deal with the Mets where we ship him off and get Trot back in return...

But, unless Trot kept his old helmet, he'll have a new clean one. A clean helmet saps Trot of his Dirt Dog powers, so if they make the move, they'll need to get crackin' on breaking in a helmet for him. Theo, we need some pine tar, stat!

Eh, I'm a pretty big Drew fan myself. Kilo's not the only one with a man crush on the guy.

It's just nice to feel right after defending him so f***ing much last season. Now it's paying off.

gee,that soon eh??

dont they have a rug up in toronto??

they may need to sit him till monday as the carpet plays havock with the fragile guys and inspite of what some here think, evidence over his career indicates this guy is fragile.

he's played in the 4th most games of any positional player this year and has topped 140 games played in 3 of the last 4 years (the exception being 2005 when he was hit in the wrist by a pitch)

his reputation of being fragile is overrated

Posted

on the other hand he has never played in as many games as johnny damon

is damon tuffer than drew or does damon care more?

my point here rather than getting back into the nancy drew charisma from last year is this...

with manny gone lowell out and ortiz suffering from a down year i would like him on the field in every game possible.

he's a good hitter a decent fielder and a run producer to say the least

we need his offense

he isnt being replaced by an offensive juggernaut, hes being replaced by coco crisp for chrissakes.

unless theres a bone hanging out of his body i would like him on the field0

we arent in the drivers seat,we're a week out of september and are tied for the wildcard with the al east breathing down our backs....by no means are we assured anything as far as playoffs go...

i dont mind a guy getting a day off here and there, all these guys are busted up after a 6 month schedule but we need our best on the field or repeating isnt happening,is this guy going to be available down the stretch or what??...a week off in late august is a bitch to absorb these days

I think its more of a manager/front office thing that he's been out. Francona lets banged up guys sit as much as possible, as evidenced by the fact that Ellsbury missed a week just cause he got his in the ass with a ball

if you wanna bring up Damon, keep in mind that Damon has payed the price over the last three years for all the injuries be played through during his Boston stint. Drew is locked up for another 3 years after this year, the team doesn't want him to break down too soon.

besides, I think the offense has been good enough that they don't absolutely have to rush him back right now.

From age 23 through 27 he averaged 117 games per season. Not great for a young guy. That's fragile.

In '04, '06 and '07 he managed to play in 140+, but has never played more than 146 games. That's not fragile, but it ain't being a bull either...and I'm guessing the rising games played is due to him learning to manage his injuries better and the organizations he is with recognizing there are going to be health issues that will likley crop up, so they're taking more preventative measures.

This year he's on pace for 137 games (he'd need to play 30 of the next 36 to maintain that pace). Not horrible, but not great for a guy making $14m per year.

I think we're talking semantics here, but bottom line is many Sox fans, and probably the Sox FO, inevitably find themselves anticipating/fearing JD's next tweak, pull, pop, break, hang nail or yeast infection.

Not saying I don't like the guy, 'cause I do, I just hope he stays in the line-up enough to help the Sox make the playoffs and make a solid run...cuz they need him.

i dont know

im not of the mindset that these guys going into toronto are good enuff without that lefty bat.

in each season of Tito managing the Sox, no more than a handful of guys have played over 140 games so while I agree with you that the team is taking preventative measures with Drew, that is also the case for the general majority of the team

bottom line is, I think you can criticize Drew for a lot during his stint with the Sox so far, but not his ability to stay on the field

I'm on the fence on that. If he was playing 140 games per year and 15-20 times he was a "healthy scratch", as they say in hockey, I'd agree. But seems like most of the time he sits it IS some sort of pull, tightness, etc.

So long as the Sox have depth, I'm all for tryng to rest players and keeping guys at around 145 games per year. I think with Drew, though, a case could be made that they work very hard just to GET HIM TO 140 games per year, and that's a different story.

I'm not bashing the guy at all. As I've said before I like him, I like what he brings to the team, and if he does that only 140 times per year, fine. At the same time, I think there are valid concerns about his ability to stay on the field and that to get 135-140 games out of him takes a lot of hard work, and caution, on his part and the organization's.
