Last night sucked, but it was one night, as mentioned. The frontrunners on the Sox side are s***ing britches too soon, and the frontrunners on the Yanks side are counting pennants prematurely. But, that is to be expected.

Despite Jacko's attempt to give this loss more magnitude than it warrants with the whole "You have to figure wins with Dice on the mound" garbage, I can honestly say I did not expect to win last night. Not against a hot lefty. Bedard has been fantastic for about 3 months straight now, and it doesn't look like he'll slow down. Similarly, I expect to lose to Kazmir, no matter who is going for us.

Now, last night was a no doubt gutpunch loss. It sucks to see the new acquisition s*** the bed in a big spot, and it sucks to let what should have been a stolen game get away. The sliver lining though is that Francona should now know that Oki is the setup man, and he needs to pay attention to platooning when the lead is less than 6. Having Gagne start the inning when it was 3/4 lefties coming up, and then bringing in Okajima for the righty is bassackwards.

And, Jacko, how 'bout a little consistency? You pooh pooh'ed Hughes poor return game as needing to get his legs under him. No chance the same holds for Schilling? He went 6 strong for giving up the gopher in the 7th, against a division leader, not the Royals. The double standard you apply is one of the funnier things on this site. Almost as funny as having Gom come back to talk s***.

Just win...this is my last weekend of freedom before college starts again, make it one that's enjoyable! Hopefully Beckett can go 7 or 8 and the offense can have it in the bag by the 6th.

Schilling sucked before he left for the DL as well and is old and has a declining arsenal. I think he looked better than he did when he left, but I am not expecting him to do anything special.

Yeah' date=' we know, you've been saying that going on two years now.[/quote']

and for the last calendar yr, I have been right. Its okay ORS, you can admit it. BTW, enjoy the game, I have a 4p-2a shift, only occasional ESPN checks for me. sigh.

I wont throw around that kind of language with the schedule we have in front of us right now. We still have ??? on our end too. Just our offense has made those ??? less apparent. Hughes helped clear the picture a little last night and with Joba looking like a dominant force in the pen along with vintage Mo' date=' and we sure do have some nice answers. But lets wait about 2 weeks before we start talk of winning the ALCS.[/quote']

Jacko, you missed my point. If we make the playoffs, and still a big if, means that we will have to weather this tough stretch, which until the Mariners series, is a .563 winning percentage as it stands right now, the toughest in baseball. So, if we weather and tough it out through this stretch, I think it will be a cakewalk from that point on.

The team is finally healthy. They are playing to their capabilities because they are not injured.

schill had that great game in oakland and has been toast since

however

his last start he had 2 runs thru 6? was it

im confident he can give us his 3.75 era with a decent inning count into october

and you yank fans wont be surprised by anything he does in october will you??

Schilling is finished. So is Mussina. There will be no one happier than me if you sign Schilling after the season is over.

This is point I'm hinting at. He was night and day different on either side of the Oakland start, and he needed a DL stint to get right. Lumping all those stats together is pointless because the version from the better half is what we have right now. Could he peter out again? Sure, but until that happens, I'll go with what we know.

True. Then again, I dont think he'll be facing the same top heavy lineup he faced in 04. Our lineup is deep and the bench is deep. We'll hit. The question is, will you?

Actually, I will be utterly shocked if this guy does anything when it counts.

Look, being on the receiving end of two different seasons of post-season excellence, I know how good Schilling is, or can be, when it counts. There is one thing he can't get past. He is old. His fastball doesn't have the same pop as it used to. He doesn't have the same break on his pitches. It happens to all of them. What makes baseball so hard is the repetition needed for excellence. As players age, they also lose that ability. Some lose it gradually, some suddenly. They all lose it though.

These aren't cream puffs in the playoffs he will face. He will most likely face an Guardians, Tigers, or Angels lineup. He has no chance of dominance anymore. Neither does Mussina, or Clemens. You hope for a good game, but in your gut, do you really expect one?

From our two teams, the only pitchers who can throw a lights out game are Beckett, Matsuzaka, Wang, and Hughes. Pettitte will keep you in the game, and so will Wakefield if his knuckler is fluttering. You hope that Schilling, Clemens and Mussina's bodies go back in time for a few hours. Don't hold your breath though.

This isn't a rip on Schilling per se. Any pitcher that starts pushing 40 and even higher, you keep your fingers crossed.

More like what you hope. He's on a downward spiral, and seems to be accelerating.

I left to visit my father who lost his brother. Sorry, talksox wasn't a priority for me. I was here when they were what, 14 games out? No matter, that Pete's Wicked Ale must be getting to you in your old age.

I do have something that would be funnier than that though. How about a Red Sox collapse? That would be utterly hilarious. :)

Why? You can't exactly maintain a shred of cred and talk s*** about it. You gave up. Now you are going to come back and gloat if it happens? What a pussy.

the yank fans live in the now and their general manager has played it the same way since the felon got his hands back on the joy stick

the moves for knobby and jeff weaver and denny neagle and kbrown and vasquez and the dumping of vasquez and contreras and sheffield

the jarret wright carl pavano randy johnson winter

the move on damon etc....

then the final move on clemens i believe slapped some of their brighter people upside the head and the words WHAT THE f*** ARE YOU DOING come to mind here

1st july i remember them standing still with the exception of dumping their horse in the pen

is that due to raja or is it a statement that says ""we are now responsible"" or was it more of a ""f*** it lets see what haopens here"" move??

didnt make sense to me at all, especially with mrs farsworths behavior being disruptive to say the least and flat out insubordinate to be honest, mike meyers getting dumped and the other guys like villone vizcaino and karstens questionable in the heat of the battle

strange season

that franchise made their bones when the felon was out of the decision making process and that franchise not only rolled for 10 years but they were actually likable for a while
