Ok boys lets keep this going. Sox are playing the O's while... gasp the Yankees will be playing a 1st place team (Guardians) for the first time since the Angels in early July. Time to make some games up as the Sox enter the series with their big 3 of Beckett, Dice-K, and Schilling on his way back from the DL. Tonight tho will be the toughest as we see one hell of a pitching matchup in the form of Dice-K vs Bedard

Matsuzaka closes in on club history

Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka has been baffling hitters, forcing them back to the dugout with fruitless at-bats ending in Ks, with alarming regularity. The overpowering rookie is just three strikeouts shy of tying Ken Brett's rookie club record of 152. He has fanned fewer than five batters only twice in his last 10 appearances, totaling 67 strikeouts over that span. It is a mark ironically befitting of the phoenetic pronunciation of the man's name: Dice-K.

No dice, sit down, have a nice K.

With Baltimore sitting in fourth place in the American League East, Matsuzaka and his first-place Sox will look for the O's to help them extend their lead over the rival Bronx Bombers, winners in eight of their last 10 while systematically slashing a divisional deficit once thought insurmountable. But Baltimore's surging second baseman, Brian Roberts, may disrupt Boston's plans. In his last 10 games, Roberts boasts a .341 average with 14 hits and 11 RBIs. His .315 average leads the club.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (13-8, 3.70 ERA)

Matsuzaka earned his 13th win of the year Saturday night in Seattle, allowing six hits and two runs -- both solo home runs -- over seven innings of work. He walked two and tied a career high with 10 strikeouts.

BAL: LHP Erik Bedard (12-4, 3.09 ERA)

Bedard pitched 6 2/3 innings on Sunday in an 11-3 triumph over Tampa Bay. The left-hander allowed three earned runs, struck out 11 batters and walked none en route to his career-best eighth consecutive victory. In July, he became the first Baltimore recipient of an American League Pitcher of the Month Award since Ben McDonald accomplished the feat more than 13 years ago. Bedard has faced the Red Sox only once this season, limiting them to two hits in six scoreless innings July 31 to get the win.

Player to watch

Rookie Dustin Pedroia is carving a sizeable gap between himself and his fellow American League rookies. In his last 20 games, he is batting .381 (32-for-84) with two or more hits in 11 of those contests. His .326 average and .399 on-base percentage are tops among AL rookies, He also ranks second among his peers in total hits (111) and multi-hit games (33).

Lets keep this comeback mojo rolling

Ortiz is questionable for tonight. Tito might have to consider giving Hinkse some playing time as Lowell and Youk are just a combined 2 for 28 against Bedard. Since Drew has been sitting against lefties and Wily Mo with good numbers against Bedard, he should be in line for another day off

Bedard has been one of the top (if not the top) pitcher in the AL this year. He'll be tough, I remember last time we drew like 5 walks off him but only 2 hits. DiceK is a great pitcher in himself so good matchup. go sox!

Definitely.

The midget is 3'1, and black. The guy in the photo is at least two feet taller then that, and looks like he is Indian. I am absolutely referring to the midget.

Surviving Grady today points to Baltimore fan sports blog "The Loss Column" planning a "Take Back the Yard" campaign for Orioles fans when the Red Sox are in town Sept. 8.

"Here’s what’s going to happen. The Red Sox come back here September 6-9 for three games. I’m going to leverage the Loss Column in every way I can between now and then to organize an outing on Saturday, September 8th. We’re going to go to the game, wear O’s colors, support the home team, and make life hell in every (legal) way we can for Red Sox fans. We’re going to start the evening out by spending some money at a local establishment or two. We’re going to go to the game and root like there’s no tomorrow. Then we’re going to close the night by spending some more money at another local establishment."

Orioles fans are pathetic. Have they not yet realized that CAMDEN YARDS IS OUR HOUSE?

I went to a Sox/Orioles game earlier this year. These 2 guys were trying to start with all us Sox fans in the 3rd base side

Orioles fan: Hey at least we didnt have to wait 86 years for 1 world series

My friend's response: Yes true, but at least we wont have to wait 86 years for our team to even make the playoffs

EDIT: The lineups are in and David Ortiz is back thanks to a cortisone shot. As I said in the beginning of this game thread, personally I wouldve given Youkils (1 for 16) or Lowell (1 for 12) a day off against Bedard. But heres hoping they make some good contact off of him. Drew is indeed off today with Wily Mo is getting his start

Should be a great pitchers duel, obviously. If the Orioles are going to win a game, it would be tonight, although I think the Red Sox pull this one out, but no particular reason for this thinking.

Great mojo, by the way. Excellent movie.
