Yesss Sox win, 56-36, back to 20 games above .500

Gabbard has been having a good run. If no trade is made for a starter, he should def stay in the rotation once Curt comes back. Tavarez to the pen

Ortiz/Manny... that thunder & lightning duo have come back to form after the all-star break. Over the last 5 games they have combined for 4 HRs, 15 RBIs

Gabbard's really making a case to bump Tavarez out of the rotation once Curt comes back. Obviously I'd rather have them trade for another proven SP, but if they decide to get a bat instead of a pitcher, Gabbard should be staying with the big boys.

Nice win tonight. Can't say enough about Gabbard's performace. He even set a career high with 8 K's.

In a perfect world, Gabbard would continue to pitch well and stay in the rotation, Schilling would come back with a 2nd half surge, and Tavarez would go to the pen.

Whatever, I'll take the high road.

Gabbard looked good tonight.

I hope you can GO f*** YOURSELF (thank you Fitzy) on the high road

Take the high road?

You just played down the performance of Kason Gabbard, said the Royals couldn't hit a pitcher who has cancer and....oh about that cancer...that just speaks volumes about the player and person Jon Lester is and says nothing about the Kansas City Royals or the performance of Kason Gabbard tonight.

You aren't taking the high road after those comments....that was pretty low....even for you

Nice game by the kid, but I hope the FO doesn't get a false sense of security and think they don't need another arm. The KC Royals had a 21 yr old batting cleanup tonight. They could be shutout hitting off a tee.

here is the point I have been trying to make. Good post.

Good game. Nice to see Ortiz and Manny homer in the same game, not to mention Pedroia. Gabbard was excellent throughout the entire game. Not a lot of hard hit balls, and only one walk. Pitched the game of his life. Still 9 up on the Yankees.

especially after tonight' date=' could Gabbard be our biggest available trade chip to make some noise at the deadline?[/quote']

If you're dealing Gabbard, what are you going to get that's better than what he's given you?

If you want MLB talent, you're gonna need to trade blue chip prospects or MLB talent, not AAAA filler.

And until he proves otherwise, Gabbard is that filler. Nice game though.

He might get us a quality rental.

it depends what they're looking for. there's been talk of that right handed hitter off the bench with some speed and a bit of pop in his bat. Gabbard and WMP could probably be dealt for a Randy Winn-type. I also think Gabbard could fetch a good reliever

I agree. Coming into the game against the RoyAAAls, he had a WHIP over 1.5. That is AWFUL. Granted, I'd deal Igawa straight up for him, LOL. But until he can locate for an extended period of time, he will be nothing more than the lefty version of Shawn Chacon. He'll have his good games, but he will get murdered by good hitting clubs.

not a chance in hell. Relievers are the most traded commodities over the trade deadline and the good ones net top prospects. Unless you are looking for a reclamation project, Gabbard will be the third wheel in a package for a good reliever.

According to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, the Dodgers are currently the top suitor for 33 year-old reliever Octavio Dotel. Dutton reports that Royals GM Dayton Moore is said to be asking for a position player regular, like James Loney or Matt Kemp. Lest you think Dutton is off his rocker, consider that Tony Jackson of the L.A. Daily News says the same thing.

Consider that the Astros will probably want Jacoby Ellsbury for Brad Lidge. None of the relievers on that list are great, but if a great one gets traded this deadline, you can expect a great prospect to go the other way.

I think Dotel was involved in a trade in 2004, that sent Mark Teahen to KC.

the WHIP is hugely inflated from his one seattle start.

Oh, I know what teams ask for, but you don't see it in terms of actual trades made. In other words, while the expected return is high, the market doesn't bear it. The best on that list is Francisco Cordero. He and Kevin Mensch were traded for a two month rental of Carlos Lee. Lee's a very good player, but the rental aspect of the trade severly reduced his value. Certainly below what one would put on a top prospect who the team will control for 6 years.
