I just dont get how you can keep a guy whos getting hit hard by the whole lineup that you, with the team down 4-1 already, leave him in there with the bases loaded. I guess he would say "Well you know he's just a good kid. I wanted him to at least get us out of that inning with 2 men out"

Tito only pulls a starter on the rocks once the game is clearly out of hand

I understand wanting to just get through this series and resting as many people as possible, but you still have to try to win these games. I highly doubt that the bats are going to do as much damage.

I hope the FO is realizing that we need starting pitching help. Tavarez got torched tonight, and Gabbard matches up against Bonderman tomorrow in a total mismatch.

Yep and last I checked majority of these guys are going to have 3 days off after this series anyway...

Sox can get by with a Tavarez as their 5th starter... but Tavarez and Gabbard as their 4/5 starters isnt going to cut it. Even moreso with Schilling returning, August 1 is the earliest he will return. The deal for Buehrle must be done

EDIT: We always seem to get the blind umps. That last pitch to Manny was at his ankles

Damn, hadn't seen that. Well, I may be the only one not worried. Gabbard has been hit or total miss so far. He had a no hitter into the 5th his last start, then the wheels fell off. I still don't understand the Lester situation.

He's healthy enough to pitch, but not MLB ready with his mechanics? He's a body, isn't he? I'd bring up Lester before blowing my wad on Buehrle. And as much as I hate it, JT is going to continue to start at least until the trade deadline/Schill return.

Who says Tavarez would be the one demoted and not Gabbard once Schilling returns?

I never got on Gabbard's back about his mechanics. Yes Gabbard is a body... but really having Tavarez/Gabbard as our 4/5 guys for the next month? And thats if Schilling is able to come off the DL effectively

A body? Last year we threw bodies out there like jason Johnson et. al. in the 4th and 5th slots, and we started doing that right around this time of the year. The FO deluded itself that it could get by until guys came back healthy. In August the wheels came off. We don't need bodies. We need professional pitchers.

I think it was ORS that said the JT era was over. Just saying it's not... yet.

And 700, you bitch about the front office so much it's hard to take you seriously anymore. I'm waiting for you to blame Theo and the FO for global warming and the war in Iraq.

What have I criticized the FO about in the last two months? There's nothing to criticize. They haven't made any moves. So, I don't know what you are talking about. I'm not criticizing them now either. I am just saying that I hope they realize that they need pitching help. That's criticism? I can't take you seriously if you think we should go another 4 weeks with Tavarez and Gabbard in the rotation with a bullpen that only has two reliable arms and it is down one of its secondary arms--Donnelly.

Wakefield vs. Halladay and Byung-Hun Kim vs. Peavy are mismatches on paper, and well, we know how those turned out.

I realize that anything can happen, but if BK kim squares off against Peavy 10 times, he amy only win that one time. The team with the better pitching has the advantage. They will not win every game, but they'll win most of them. Do you think it is a recipe for success to roll the rotation out their giving Tavarez and Gabbardge 4 to 5 more starts each? I don't.

We also have a SP down at the moment if you forgot. Gabbard will not be in a playoff start and only one of Wake/Tavarez will start a game. Beckett/DiceK/Schilling will be matched up againts the other team's best starters so I wouldnt worry about that either. SP is not a problem right now, sure I can see you jump on Tavarez once he has a bad start but come on he's been very good the past 2 months, everyone has rough days. And as far as Gabbard is concerned he's had 2 good starts and 1 bad. If you believe Schilling is completely done than maybe you have a point that we need SP, but I don't believe he is and we'll get some good contributions down the stretch from him.

This team can win the whole thing without him if they pick up another starter. If they get another SP and Schilling comes back strong they should dominate through the playoffs. If they don't get some reinforcements and Schilling doesn't make it back, they'll limp into the playoffs and probably get eliminated in the first round. That would be a tremendous missed opportunity. If Schill doesn't make it back and they don't pick up starter, we would be depending on the likes of Tavarez, Gabbard, or Lester in the playoffs. That would be a big mistake.

IMO odds are better that Wake, not Tavarez, would get a start in the playoffs. Still it shouldnt come to that. I can dream, but Id like to see teams in the playoffs having to face a Sox 4 man rotation of Beckett, Dice-K, Schilling and Buehrle

About Schilling, yes it is concerning. If MacAdams report is true (hard to refute him most of the time), Schilling wont return before August 1. How serious is his injury? What gurantee is there that he will be effective down the stretch run? Sox have 2 hit or miss guys at the back end of the rotation... thus having Tito worry about how much bullpen will he have to use on those back to back games
