Are they going to bench him when he's got 3,000?

I know you hate strikeouts, and think that people should be gelded when they do, but add a one in front of that 413 SO number, and you're still about 300 shy. He has 1700 SO's for his career.

My mistake! I looked at the wrong stat. Will fix.

Fixed.

Also, I haven't hear anything if they'll be benching him after 3,000 or not.

Is this "At the door in Cooperstown" assessment yours or someone else's? I don't think he's a lock for the HOF.

I remember hearing that every single player ahead of him on the career hits list is in, which isn't hard to believe as he approaches 3,000. But still, the case isn't completely clear cut.

I think he's Hall of Fame material. I really do. He's played a long time and really went out there and played.

Pete Rose, Rickey Henderson, and Rafael Palmeiro are the only ones ahead of him that aren't enshrined. Looking at the career hit list, it seems that 2900 is the cutoff point.

But Takashi Saito is! Right? Right!?

Where did he ever say that?

You are like Adam123 in that you bring up things totally unrelated to the thread.

We're talking about Biggio, and you bring up a closer who's been in baseball for 1-1/2 seasons.

If you want to knock the Dodgers somehow, at least bring up Kent, a comparable 2nd baseman.

Nice to meet you too troll.

Apparently you're blind to sarcasm.

No you're the one that needs to learn sarcasm. I was being sarcastic towards Yaz'sTripleCrown who had said in another post that Saito is better than Papelbon.

Why don't you read more before passing a stupid judgement. No please go f*** yourself at your earliest convienence.

Congrats. But it doesn't mean much if it's the only reason why you're playing. He's a below average player right now' date=' he's just extending his career for the milestone.[/quote']t's a helluva a milestone. It shouldn't be diminished. He was an excellent player for most of his career. Most players leave the game involuntarily, because they can't cut it any more. Those who leave the game voluntarily leave when they are not as good as they were in their primes. It is the rarest of all circumstances when a player walks away while he is still an excellent performer.

If the Astros keep wanting him back, and Biggio still wants to keep playing, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I really could see Biggio playing 1 or 2 more seasons. If not for stats just to have something to do. He's one of those rare breeds left that play the game for what it is and not for the $$$. Sure he was going for 3,000 hits, but after 20 years or so of playing, I'd want to get to that mark too. But he's really got a heart for the sport.

Holy f*** Thumper. It's not adam. Didn't I say this already?

Sorry, didn't see your post until after I made this one. You can delete my above post if you want.

You have a lot to learn. Of course I know what Yaz'sTripleCrown said. but that has nothing to do with Biggio. Keep it to THAT thread, not this one.

The guy is a below average player right now. If he hadn't been for him going for the milestone and, I guess, the Astros loyalty, he wouldn't be a starter.

I heard, and just verified, that in 1997, in 619 at bats, he didn't ground into a single double play. Impressive.

Biggio is an obvious lock for the Hall of Fame, and is better than at least half of the people in the Hall of Fame. People really question his chances to get into Cooperstown?

HOF without a doubt. Maybe not first ballot, but since when did someone get 3000 hits and not make the hall? (minus Pete Rose and Palmeiro for obvious reasons).

He has a gold glove caliber defensive player, had 3000 hits, had suirprising pop for a second baseman, stole over 400 bases and got on base at a .365 clip. In fact, there is nobody on the all time hit list with 2873 or more hits who is NOT in the HOF. He has 1 less hit than our very own Wade Boggs, and was much faster, had more pop and played better defense.

Another reason Biggio should be, Phil Rizzuto is in the HOF. He was a .273 career hitter, zero power numbers, hit .273 over his career, and never won a gold glove. He was selected to 5 AS games compared with Biggios 7.

How is Bill Mazeroski a HOF, but Biggio not? He hit .260 over his career and had a total of 2016 career hits. OBP of .299...ouch.

What about Joe Morgan? Why him and not Biggio? They had VERY similar careers, althought I really believe Biggios was a little better.

Why is Ryne Sandberg in the HOF and not Biggio? Biggio has had a better career than him as well......believe it or not Biggio has actually outhomered him. They are (were) both gold glovers. Hit right around the same average. Biggio drove in more runs, stole more bases and got on base more often. Biggio also hit almost 200 more doubles than RYNO and had almost 700 more base hits.

Biggio is right on par, or better than these guys......who are already in the HOF. Why is Biggio not deserving again?
