It will be funny if the Cubs don't manage to extend or sign Zambrano. They ship off their starting catcher to appease a pitcher for 1/2 a season, then the pitcher goes too.

The Cubs got RIPPED.

Going to PETCO Park is going to hurt Barrett's offense, but he's still one of the better offense catchers in the game.

BTW, didn't Barrett and Zambrano say they were "brothers," after the fight?

Major leaguers are so full of s***.

I'm going to miss having Barrett here in Chicago. Every time he takes the field, there's a good chance of a "Jerry Springer Show" breaking out. Just ask Zambrano and A.J. Pierzynski.

Seriously though, us White Sox fans are heartbroken. We were looking forward to jeering him mercilessly this weekend for the crap he pulled last year. We didn't get the chance the day after because the spineless Dusty Baker didn't play him.

Also, Barrett has been having an off-year at the plate and he's a huge liability behind the plate. I could steal second on him, and he's atrocious at blocking pitches in the dirt. Also, the coaches in charge of stealing signals have a field day with him because he doesn't change them at all.

I actually think that's more due to Zambrano and Pierzynski.

It was more due to Zambrano. Barrett had no business throwing a punch at AJ. None. Maybe giving him a little talking to, but the punch was completely unnecessary.

...that said, I'm glad AJ got a shot to the mouth  That prick.

Um, do you remember in 2005 (I'm pretty sure that it was '05) he had a confrontation with Roy Oswalt? That lit a fire under the Astros, who were in the doldrums until they swept the Cubs, and they ended up going to the World Series that year.

And about Barrett and Zambrano, I was only suprised it took that long for those two hotheads to clash.

Barrett: .256/.307/.427 90 OPS+, 9 HR, 29 RBI in 57 games

Bowen: .268/.371/.439 122 OPS+. 2 HR, 11 RBI in 30 games

The Cubs got robbed.

Terrific sample size.

.230/.327/.376/.703, 88 OPS+ (Bowen Major leagues)

.238/.324/.391/.715, 90 OPS+ (Bowen Minor leagues)

.385 BABIP in 2007.

Sweet the deadline trades are starting to churn out. I didnt think tho that it would be the Padres getting Barrett

Heres another trade that took place today

Braves acquired LHP Wilfredo Ledezma from the Tigers for LHP Macay McBride.

A challenge trade involving two talented and inconsistent left-handed relievers. We give the edge to the Braves here. Ledezma had a 4.79 ERA and a 24/26 K/BB ratio in 35 2/3 innings for the Tigers this season after posting a 3.58 ERA in seven starts and 17 relief appearances last year. He possesses the talent to start, but like McBride, he has definite command issues. The Braves will throw him into middle relief for now and may give him a look as a starter later. If only Leo Mazzone was still around in Atlanta, we'd call Ledezma a major sleeper in NL-only leagues.

Tigers acquired LHP Macay McBride from the Braves for LHP Wilfredo Ledezma.

The Braves are moving McBride even though he had pitched quite a bit better since returning from the minors. He opened the year by walking 11 batters in three innings, getting him sent to Triple-A. Since being recalled last month, he had a 3.00 ERA and a 14/4 K/BB ratio in 12 innings. Lefties were hitting just .160 against him. The Tigers will use him in more of a specialist role, while Ledezma was typically utilized as a middle reliever. McBride is talented enough to be quite a bit of use if his continues to show decent command.

Let's face it, the Cubs are going nowhere this year. And losing Barrett isn't going to help them in any way. But then again, keeping him wouldn't help either because before you know it it's gonna be Barrett and Soriano duking it out.
