Both teams are very different' date=' I think it's fair to leave it at that. But to defend 26's comments, I think he means that the Yankees are much different in terms of their roster. It's fair to say that the Yankees' roster has gone through a significant overhaul.[/quote']

That is exactly what I meant.

WC Standings 8/27

NY Yankees 72 58 .554 2.0

AL WILD CARD

Team GB

Yankees -

Mariners -

Tigers 3

Blue Jays 7

Twins 7

After a horrendous road trip, the Yankees most resilient team in years, has caught the Mariners yet again. All in all, I am enjoying this season more than any since 1998. You gotta love how this team just never quits.

Tomorrow, Wang faces the Red Sox, who counter with the Red Sox's Mussina, Curt Schilling.

I hate the Yankees with everything I have, but holy s***. Congratulations on this feat. Credit is due, and credit shall be given. With the way they started out the year, and how their play continued on through almost half of the season, for them to be able to say that they lead the wild card race is pretty much impressive. So, again, congrats.

Long way to go, but I agree, they're starting to play up to their capability. The thing that I like the most is that they get killed against two tough teams on the road, but they don't let that continue once they get back home and go on a prolonged losing streak.

However, the fact that they went 2-5 on the road against two contenders is a point of concern.

For what it's worth, this ends the difficult stretch that started after the TOR series (although the TOR series could be included). Not including the TOR series they went a respectable 12-8. All things considered, not too bad. Now the schedule becomes considerably easier.

Truth be told, we did win 3 out of 4 from Detroit at home. So we split with Detroit 8 games over 2 weeks. We should have won 2 out of 3 from the Angels anyways, so I'm not concerned. Pissed, because the lead could have 2 or 3 games instead of 5, but dems da breaks....

Thank you, but were not a lock to get in just yet. Guardians leading 3-0....we can finally catch them in the loss column today.

Tribe gets 'em back. They've started to heat up offensively since Hafner came back. With CC and Carmona, they could be tough to handle in the playoffs when the bats cranking. This is shaping up to be a pretty strong postseason in the AL (I don't think Seattle finishes strong).

You have the Yanks in the playoffs as the WC?

Have to get Borowski out of this game. Got a break there. First and second no one out, and he fell behind Jones 3-0, got a strike, and then Jones sac'd them over.

EDIT: Borowski gets out of it while only giving up one run. Tied up going in the bottom of the ninth.

God you're a miserable sack of s***.

That being said, it's quite remarkable to see the Yanks in this position, but not too remarkable. They were too good of a team to be playing like they were.

I'll take the 5 game lead, thank you very much.

You see, if you hadn't given up on your team in April and stuck by them the WHOLE season with some faith (like we Red Sox fans have always done with our team), I probably wouldn't have been as irritated as I was when I read this quote.

Dude, I didn't think they would do it. I never stopped rooting for them, I never will stop rooting for them, but blind devotion to my team and logic do not always coexist.

P.S. I gave up in May.

Oh so that makes a difference then

14 1/2 games out, yeah, I admit, I didn't think they would do it. The Wild Card, yes, I did think they could do it. I doubted it, but I thought they could. If anyone told me when they were 14.5 games out that they would be five games out on September 1st, I would have wanted to know the name of their drug dealer. I never gave up on my team, just their chances. Big difference. I love the Yankees, and always will. Did they surprise me? Absolutely. Now on to the division....

You wouldn't have said any different when we were 8.5 games out of the wild card. Ya never know.

Its quite simple. I give props to the yankees for playing their hearts & guts out against the Red Sox. At the same time it is plausible that they built themselves up so much for 1 series that its left them disoriented. Since those 3 games in the Bronx, the Yankees pitching and offense has been sub par to say the least
