Almost there...only one game separates four teams, with Cleveland only half a game ahead of Detroit. With a surging Twins team pushing the Guardians and Tigers, the Yankees look to capitalize on them playing each other to surge ahead. If we can go into the tough stretch surging, and the teams we play struggling, is it too optimistic to look forward to the Red Sox in the ALCS?

Stay tuned...

The race stays the same. However, the Sox are stumbling....fumbling...and maybe even bumbling. The Sox are only 5.5 games out of sitting it out in October. Stay tuned.

Perhaps an unofficial AL East division watch thread is necessary? ;)

The Sox have had to play teams like Cleveland, Anaheim, and Seattle while you guys munch on Kansas City, Chicago, and Toronto. The fact that the lead is still 5 games is pretty impressive considering it could have, and maybe should have, been worse. But the Sox managed to keep pace with the red-hot Yanks despite going through a tougher schedule. I think your tune will change starting on Friday.

And oh, the Sox are stumbling, fumbling and bumbling? What the hell? They lost 2 games on the road against the second best team in baseball, who also happens to have the best home record in baseball. They just took 2/3 from Seattle and Baltimore before that. Saying that the Sox are stumbling is a little exaggerated, IMO.

Seattle is winning 7-3 right now, so it looks like they're going to leap frog the Yankees. Detroit is losing 3-1 to the D-Rays, but there is a long way to go in that one, especially with the Rays bullpen. The Guardians are up 1-0 over the Chisox early.

OK...the Tigers have lost, the Mariners have won. The Guardians are up one in the seventh. So the Tigers and the Mariners are now tied for the wild card lead, and the Yankees remain a half a game back (if my math is correct).

Bonderman's season continues to take a nose dive. every year it seems people say this is the year Bonderman's going to break out but idk maybe he just isn't that good, he seems more of a middle of the rotation than #1 to me.

Finally....we have caught the others. As of now, the Yankees are in a virtual tie for the wild card. Knocking off the Guardians ace Carmona, and with Hughes rebounding nicely from his poor performance against the Royals, the gauntlet has been thrown. Can our pinstriped heroes continue, or will they wilt under the pressure?

What a season....what a race....stay tuned.

The Mariners will not lose. Therefore, technically, they are still the wild card leader. I will not abandon this thread until we have finally taken the wild card spot as our own.

The standings as of now, end of day 8/11/2007:

AL WILD CARD

Team GB

Yankees -

Mariners -

Tigers 1

Blue Jays 5 ½

Twins 6

Athletics 8 ½

White Sox 10

Orioles 11

Royals 13 ½

Rangers 14

Devil Rays 20

They are 6 over their pyth. Their WC chances are tied to continued luck.

For the Yankees sake, I'm hoping that luck runs out in the next month and a half.

With that being said, they're not the team that concerns me, in the wild card race.

Rhetorical question. You know the answer.

Seriously, I don't know. I am sure the Yankees have a better pyth, but I'm curious to what it is, and also, what the second level thing you brought up once before. I had never heard of it. From where do you get this info, anyways.
