and i officially withdraw Mike Lowell from MVP candidacy

Youk--MVP

Pedroia--ROY

but even though that last AB sucked, Lowell has been playing ridiculously well this year. He had a tough AB against the one of the best closers in baseball. It happens.

Mariano isn't the best closer in baseball. There is a guy in Anaheim right now who wants to slap you. Especially when Mariano is topping at 92.

Tough loss. Kind of a major choke job. As things are right now, if we play the Yankees in the playoffs, we lose.

that game could not have been worse...suckass starting pitching and suckass bullpen

Oh yeah...the SP sucked. 6+ innings of balls to the wall pitching is horrid. Y'all sound like whiny bitchy MFY fans. Oh right...the median age here is about 14. Gain some life experience and some actual problems and get back to me.

Suck it up. You're not in Iraq...your babies aren't going to grow up to be cowboys, I'm sure your mommy still does your laundry, and guess what little one's...the good times will end.

But, not this year. This team kicks ass. f***ing pansy waisted pink hats. No tolerance for the weak of spirit.

Gentlemen...this is war. And, I'm a chick....f***ing wimps many of you. You lose. You win. Sometimes you win big. Sometimes you lose big. I've been through lot's and lot's of heartache w/ this team. The loss sucked...first throwing my remote of the year. But, you don't start jumping ship. You never jump ship.

Grow some cojones.

we just gave the Yankees momentum...

Just like we gave them momentum last weekend, right?

Everyone take a chill pill. They gained ONE game. This Yankees lineup is the best lineup in baseball and is obviously going to score a lot of runs. The Yankees seem to play balls to the wall against the Sox and seem to suck against everyone else. Let's go to Oakland, do some damage there, and take full advantage of the weak NL lineups during interleague play. We only play the Yankees 18 times during the regular season this year. Before we start proclaiming them "alive" again, let's see what happens in the coming weeks. Sure, it's possible that they'll start playing like they should, but no one's saying that the Red Sox aren't going to continue to play well.

All I'm asking is that everyone take a deep breath, remember that we're still 12.5 up, and that we're going to face the weak A's lineup for 4 days. Then we can feast on the NL. Sounds like fun, eh?

And that's one game closer they get back into the Division Title run.

Thumper, please don't tell me you expect to win the division by this large of a margin. It sucks, but if you expect it and realize that they're still 12.5 out, you'll realize that there's no reason to be out of your mind.

God, I almost didn't come on here tonight because I didn't want to hear all the bitching and weak-spirited remarks that have obviously been spit around. Everyone chill out. It's going to be okay.

Someone give me a game summary' date=' MLB.com wont load for some reason.[/quote']

Yanks scored 4 runs before the bottom of the fifth inning where the Sox had a 5-run inning. Everything cooled down until the bottom of the eighth when Cano hit a triple with no outs to bring in Matsui, tying the game at 5. Cano ended up stranded there as Okajima got out of the inning. Top 9 with 2 outs on an 0-2 count, Papelbon threw a fastball on the outside corner and A-Rod took it to the bullpen giving the Yanks the 6-5 lead. Ortiz and Manny recorded outs, Youk got hit by a pitch, and then Lowell struck out. Game over Yanks win.

Crespo, they gained one game. Is that what the frig you wanted to hear? Fine, they gained only one game, but it was a two game switch if we would have won and maybe we gave them a glimmer of hope. Sorry, but when you get the Yankees down you step on their friggin' throats and take all the air out of them leaving them dead. Unless you do they can come back and bite you on the ass. I just hope we didn't let them back in the race. What they do in Chi town and what we do in Oakland will tell us a lot this coming week.

Its about as simple as I said it. If the Yanks find a way into the playoffs (its a legitmate if, because they're s*** isn't together right now) but if they do, and we face them in the ALCS, if things are as they are now, the Sox will lose that series. Beckett had a tough luck outing and little can be pegged on him... but Schilling can't beat the Yankees. Watching Wakefield go against the Yankees is like watching Mr.T have sex with your girlfriend. Not fun to watch. Dice-K has been tagged by the Yankees both times he faced them. Its not pretty right now. Do I think things will still be like this? No, I have some hope. I think that Dice will come into his own. I think the knuckleball could dance a little better for wake and I expect Beckett to step up. Schill looks plain bad, but hes a vet and a solid pitcher. Right now though, we can't beat them in a 7 game series.

They can't catch us in the division, in all likelihood, but the playoffs are all that matters. We need to man up if that happens.

The season series is at 7-5. The Yankees have served notice that even if we win the division they can beat the Sox in the playoffs. Our pitching (including Beckett) doesn't scare them.

They gained one game.

And that steal by Dave Roberts was just one base. There's a bigger picture to this game than just "hey it's still 12.5." We homered off Papelbon and rallied off Okajima in the 8th and 9th innings, and took 2 of 3 at Fenway, which means something.

Overall I think this week is very big. If the Yankees can gain some ground and do something good against the White Sox this week and the A's can steal a game or two, it would really shoot some confidence into the ballclub going into Clemens' start this weekend against the Pirates.

There is a lot of room between the clubs, but it certainly is not over. Too much time left in this very long season. The Twins made up how much ground last year to win the Central? Something like.. 12.5 games? It can be done.

Looking at the reaction of some of the people on the board, it looks like the Red Sox are 12.5 back.

If they make a few moves, and some of their slumping players start hitting, they are a very dangerous team.

But...

They do have a lot of ground to make up.

Yeah, exactly what i was thinking. Boys, we came back in this game, remember that, we were down 4-0 before we went crazy in the 5th. The ARod HR was Papelbon tryin' to pull a Major League and just blow him away on 3 straight fastballs. I knew if he threw him anoteher fastball I KNEW it would cranked, it should have at least been a waste splitter, as ARod got his timing down the first two fastballs.

On another note, the Yankee bullpen outdueled the Sox last night, giving them 4.2 scoreless last night, outpitching our aces in Okajima and Papelbon, that won't happen every time. However, MO was vintage MO last night and it was pretty impressive to see what he and Posada were doing every pitch,a dn if they keep it going, we may not be able to think about any 9th inning comebacks anymore.

Once Ortiz gets his hammies back, Drew gets back on track, which he will, and Papelbon sharpens up, we will beta the Yankees, convincingly.

Yankee fans having faith in Clemens being a solid starter in the AL East is like a trusty but old rickety bridge. Sure its done you good in the past, and youve tried to put money in it, but odds are that it'll come crashing down

We still didnt get swept and that was big, instead of 12.5 the Sox could right now be looking at 10.5 as they go on a west coast road trip. This team is still a good team regardless of the Yankees beating them last night. Beckett turned in a solid start (while again Tito kept playing the leave him in there too long card), Pedroia... yea thats all i have to say now

It was a crummy game in the end, believe me I was there throughout. Coming up is a 4 game series against Oakalnd, all I ask is at least take 2 out of 4

Last night was a good game in the end, but the sox really only needed to take one game and they got that on Saturday. And as far as Papelbon and the like played, the rain certainly played a factor. Paps was topping out at 93 on his heater and that is much more hittable than the 97mph smoke he usually has, as well as Mo topping out at 91. The rain hampered both, but Mo was able to locate all of his pitches while Paps missed with one. I am happy we won, but at the same time, Pettitte's girly shriek in the 5th really made me think elbow. I know he has some elbow issues, so if we lose him, we dont even have the slimmest of shots that we have with him. The offense finally came out, and if Abreu and Cano continue to hit, this team becomes dangerous again. I hope we can make this a race again, but that is more me being excited over the win than anything. Most likely we'll be talking wild card if anything at all. Even in defeat, your offense battled hard, so I'd expect you guys to continue winning.

Course I mean take 2 out 4, I didnt get home until 230. So bear with me

About the 9th inning, even Yankee fans around me were screaming at Mo for hitting Youkilis "Damn it Mo, dont give these guys extra ABs"

Anyone think this could be a result of Papelbon's inconsistent workload? It's gotta be hard to take five days off' date=' then pitch two days in a row and be effective.[/quote']

I think it has more to do with the conditions than anything. His velocity, Okajima's velocity, Farnsworth's velocity and Mariano's were all down about 3mph in that heavy, cold rain. As much as I'd like to pile on to the Papelbon wagon, consider the conditions and that he really only missed by a few inches on one pitch. Sometimes, you just gotta tip your cap.

I didn't see the pitch to ARod because I went to bed in the 8th. These games run too long for a 4:00 am alarm clock. From what I've read in the game threads elsewhere, Papelbon hit his spot low and away (not bad command, Jacko), and ARod went down and drove it oppo. What I question is why he's throwing a strike at all 0-2. Seems like the right time to either go up the ladder or down in the dirt with the split. Papelbon and his catchers are so accustomed to his stuff blowing people away that they get away from pitching since it's only one inning. Not smart, especially to the best player in the game.

Varitek did not want the ball to be a strike. If I remember correctly, Vtek was hitting the dirt prior to the pitch and Paps left it at the knees on the corner.

inconsistant??

this is the result of throwing an 0-2 suck fastball down the heart of the plate against a premier power hitter who was sitting on it

nothing more

nothing less

paps shouldve been fined 10k for that stupidity

what happened to wasting a pitch??

he wouldve swung at anything at that point

f***ing paps should put his cock back in his pants and pitch to these guys rather than trying to bust em all down on 3 pitches

live and learn

its monday,6-4 and we're 12.5 up

alls well over here
