Oh yeah...the SP sucked. 6+ innings of balls to the wall pitching is horrid. Y'all sound like whiny bitchy MFY fans. Oh right...the median age here is about 14. Gain some life experience and some actual problems and get back to me.

Suck it up. You're not in Iraq...your babies aren't going to grow up to be cowboys, I'm sure your mommy still does your laundry, and guess what little one's...the good times will end.

But, not this year. This team kicks ass. f***ing pansy waisted pink hats. No tolerance for the weak of spirit.

Gentlemen...this is war. And, I'm a chick....f***ing wimps many of you. You lose. You win. Sometimes you win big. Sometimes you lose big. I've been through lot's and lot's of heartache w/ this team. The loss sucked...first throwing my remote of the year. But, you don't start jumping ship. You never jump ship.

Grow some cojones.

Tal, no real Red Sox fan jumps ship. If you love the Red Sox that is an absolute impossibility. I should know; it is only my seventh season rooting for this team and it kills me every time they lose a game. No, what the problem is most of us is that we love this team too much, sometimes much to our personal detriment. Last night I was so pissed off that I nearly broke the TV monitor the way I slammed it down after that s***** Yankee fifth inning. However, let me be frank. We have to show that we can beat the Yankees again, and not just one of three. We play them two more series and we must be the ones to take two of three because as it stands right now ksuschi is right---they could take us in a Playoff series. They hit our pitchers, we hit theirs but we leave too many more men on base and throw Wakefield against them which puts us at a complete disadvantage. Right now they ought to look at the schedule and make damn certain that when those series come in front of it is NOT Wakefield's turn to pitch in any of the games. I might also suggest that Jon Lester be brought up as soon as possible. I just have a feeling that with all the Yankee lefthanders this kid just might be a ticket to give us the edge in head-to-head competition. Good post, though. It was kind of a wake up call for some of us.

Varitek did not want the ball to be a strike. If I remember correctly' date=' Vtek was hitting the dirt prior to the pitch and Paps left it at the knees on the corner.[/quote']

It was stupid. Papelbon's out pitch is his splitter...he could have at least wasted one outside or tried to make A-Rod chase the high heat...

But nooooooooooooooooo, he threw a fastball that was more over the plate than on the outside edge. He's done this before. I know Papelbon is fuking intense, but sometimes he's too fuking intense for his own good (thank you to whoever used this sentence before...I had to use it. Perfect opportunity). The Yankees can easily make any dominant pitcher look human...you have to pitch these guys like you're supposed to. 9/10 times you're not going to just blow A-Rod, of all people, away on three pitches.

I tip my cap for to A-Rod for driving the ball as well as he did into our bullpen. That said, Papelbon needs to stop trying to blow the best hitters in baseball away on three pitches.

Just like we gave them momentum last weekend, right?

Everyone take a chill pill. They gained ONE game. This Yankees lineup is the best lineup in baseball and is obviously going to score a lot of runs. The Yankees seem to play balls to the wall against the Sox and seem to suck against everyone else. Let's go to Oakland, do some damage there, and take full advantage of the weak NL lineups during interleague play. We only play the Yankees 18 times during the regular season this year. Before we start proclaiming them "alive" again, let's see what happens in the coming weeks. Sure, it's possible that they'll start playing like they should, but no one's saying that the Red Sox aren't going to continue to play well.

All I'm asking is that everyone take a deep breath, remember that we're still 12.5 up, and that we're going to face the weak A's lineup for 4 days. Then we can feast on the NL. Sounds like fun, eh?

Very reassuring post Schill; I hope you believe what you wrote. The Oakland A's have good pitching and we have to put runs on the scoreboard to take these guys and we need them tonight to back up Julian, especially since Paps and Oki are probably not available for the game. I wouldn't like entering the ninth inning with only a one run lead with Piniero or Romero trying to close the game for us. We need at least a three run lead with those two bums on the hill; hopefully we will be ahead when the ninth rolls around.

Its about as simple as I said it. If the Yanks find a way into the playoffs (its a legitmate if, because they're s*** isn't together right now) but if they do, and we face them in the ALCS, if things are as they are now, the Sox will lose that series. Beckett had a tough luck outing and little can be pegged on him... but Schilling can't beat the Yankees. Watching Wakefield go against the Yankees is like watching Mr.T have sex with your girlfriend. Not fun to watch. Dice-K has been tagged by the Yankees both times he faced them. Its not pretty right now. Do I think things will still be like this? No, I have some hope. I think that Dice will come into his own. I think the knuckleball could dance a little better for wake and I expect Beckett to step up. Schill looks plain bad, but hes a vet and a solid pitcher. Right now though, we can't beat them in a 7 game series.

They can't catch us in the division, in all likelihood, but the playoffs are all that matters. We need to man up if that happens.

I agree with that right now; in two months, who knows? Jon Lester my friend. He is the missing link to beating the Yankees in the playoffs. I am absolutely convinced of that.

Facing Haren will be tall task, but hopefully our offense can play like it's supposed to and win some games. As a fan, I'm comforted by the 12.5 cushion that we still have. That's not to say that I wouldn't like to see a 20 game lead obviously...but it's still a large mountain to climb for the Yanks.

I hope the players don't think the same way as me though. As players, they can't be comforted until they're up 10 with 9 to go... Let's hope they think that way.

And that steal by Dave Roberts was just one base. There's a bigger picture to this game than just "hey it's still 12.5." We homered off Papelbon and rallied off Okajima in the 8th and 9th innings, and took 2 of 3 at Fenway, which means something.

Overall I think this week is very big. If the Yankees can gain some ground and do something good against the White Sox this week and the A's can steal a game or two, it would really shoot some confidence into the ballclub going into Clemens' start this weekend against the Pirates.

There is a lot of room between the clubs, but it certainly is not over. Too much time left in this very long season. The Twins made up how much ground last year to win the Central? Something like.. 12.5 games? It can be done.

It is like a bone in my throat to have to say this ARod but you are absolutely right. The Yankees came into Fenway and won two of three, came from behind last night and scored a run apiece off of our two top relievers, and instead of being 14.5 games ahead we are only 12.5. That still is a nice lead but sometimes one game can make a difference over a long haul. Of course, I blame Francona for his s***** pitching set-up for this series. You never start Wakefield in a series against the Yankees. He now has a 10.63 ERA against them and they have walloped him every time they've faced him for over a year. Any time we go up against your team we have to have our best threesome in there and they have to pitch balls-out. The Yankees earned themselves some kuddos with their series win in our house even though it kills me to say it about a team that I utterly despise and have for 60 years.

Last night was a good game in the end' date=' but the sox really only needed to take one game and they got that on Saturday. And as far as Papelbon and the like played, the rain certainly played a factor. Paps was topping out at 93 on his heater and that is much more hittable than the 97mph smoke he usually has, as well as Mo topping out at 91. The rain hampered both, but Mo was able to locate all of his pitches while Paps missed with one. I am happy we won, but at the same time, Pettitte's girly shriek in the 5th really made me think elbow. I know he has some elbow issues, so if we lose him, we dont even have the slimmest of shots that we have with him. The offense finally came out, and if Abreu and Cano continue to hit, this team becomes dangerous again. I hope we can make this a race again, but that is more me being excited over the win than anything. Most likely we'll be talking wild card if anything at all. Even in defeat, your offense battled hard, so I'd expect you guys to continue winning.[/quote']

Jacko, that was a very impressive win for your guys last night and you should be happy about it just as I am angry and totally pissed off, but friend or no friend, I still think you are trying to sandbag me. You know the Yankees are NOT out of this thing. Even if we had won the game last night all I was prepared to say is that they are closing it on being out of the race, not out of it. Now???? There is still plenty of time left and my team had better realize that we have to keep playing good baseball and play balls out every time we go on that field.

we just gave the Yankees momentum...

momentum gets you as far as the next games starting pitcher. We are facing the CWS who are slumping right now, but we have been so wildly inconsistent that a series loss is totally possible.

That 0-2 fastball was Beckettesque. Good for us' date=' bad break for Sox fans.[/quote']

That 0-2 fastball was paint on the outside corner, the homerun was special, it was not a bad pitch by any means.

I would have put high and tight or climb the ladder, ARod still has problems with the inside pitch. Leaving it out there when hes been going opposiute field this year a lot wasn't too smart. if that was the location he wanted, an offspeed pitch woulda ben better.,

That pitch probably would have been quite successful on 1-2 if he threw the 0-2 pitch right under A-Rod's hands. But to throw that after throwing the same pitch on 0-1 is probably a mistake. On 0-2 you have plenty of time to set the batter up, and Papelbon/Varitek decided not to do that.

I think Papelbon just missed his spot. He didn't have the best location on the pitch right before that (he jammed A-Rod when the pitch should have been a bit more over the plate). Then Varitek wanted the ball low and away but it caught too much of the outside of the plate and A-Rod took it out. Like I said, all I can do is tip my cap.
