Ken Griffey Jr?

Star-Ledger - Several baseball executives expect those old Ken Griffey Jr.-to-the-White Sox trade talks to pick up again this summer as the Reds continues to sink in the standings. But a few believe it could actually be the Red Sox who end up making a play for the future Hall of Fame center fielder.

Ya he might not be able to cut it in CF, but what about Drew in CF and Griffey in RF? Also, Griffey seems to think he can still play CF according to an interview he gave at the beginning of the season.

 

I don't think this is a bad move if the price is right. If they don't want lets say a top 5 prospect in return(3 B's, Ellsbury, and lets say Cox). I'd send Hansen/Delcarmen, Murphy, maybe another low level prospect if Cincy picks up a decent amount of his remaning salary. But if they want us to absorb most of it then only 2 Minor leaguers should go there way. Maybe send Coco and a prospect. Theres numerous possibilities.

 

Another upside to this is Griffey would only be around 2 yrs tops. This would not block Ellsbury too long in the minors. And another full year at AAA wouldn't be the worst thing in the world anyway. By the time he gets to Boston he should one of the most well groomed Prospects we have seen in awhile.

That would be awesome, Griffey Jr.'s one of my favorites all time, and I'd love to have him... but don't over spend of course... I think he'd be a good influence to Ellsbury... :dunno:

I'd like a RH power arm out of the pen.

 

Although maybe MDC or Hansen can fill that role.

Lidge would be a good target to fill that role also

Lidge is supposdely settling in very nicely to a setup role in Houston. His stuff is really nasty, I doubt they give him up.

I'd love the idea of Ken Griffey Jr. as a DH. He's still got a decent bat, but the guy's so fragile that I'd be scared to put him in center or even right. The only problem is, the Sox have a pretty darn good DH already.

 

I can still remember the time when Griffey was the best player in the game. He was a perennial threat to Roger Maris' single season home run record, and an amazing defensive center fielder. The problem is those days are gone.

 

He'd be a nice 4th outfielder but can you imagine an outfield with Manny, Drew, and Griffey? EGAD! At least WMP would get some playing time.
