Wow. Manny would have had a shot at the guy at the plate if he charged that. Would have been close but I understand not wanting to give the guy 2nd base on a bad throw.

Awesome awesome awesome. The lead just keeps on growing. It's a good thing too, because I'm still not 100% confident.

Hotcha, hotcha, hotcha. yeszir, my master plan was that we would take two of three from the Rangers and the Angels would do the same to the Yankees and we would pick up another game over the weekend. No way on earth did I ever think we would pick up three on them. Wow!!!!!!! We even got a good performance from Pineiro, and that homer by Pedroia was bigger than any of us thought at the time.

Not to be repetitious, which I'm afraid I'm being, but we have to put as much distance between us and the Yankees as circumstances will allow. Not only for our confidence but I have to think that Torre and Co. are going to face more pressure the further they fall behind. What a weekend!!!!!!! Let's keep this thing going.

Okay, this is getting a bit bit scary. Everything is too perfect. We win a game where the key plays are a an unbelievable diving catch by Crisp with 2 outs and runners aboard, a stolen base by Youklis leading to the tying run, a couple of filthy innings by Piniero, and a HR by Pedroia off Gagne after a 12-pitch AB. You couldn't write the script for this game. Wow!

Sweep. Nice win. 12.5 game lead in the AL east. Love it.

Nice sweep...12.5 games up now

Wrong. 12.5 up on the YANKEES. 11.5 up in the East (Baltimore).

Lol' date=' I love how everyone completely disregards the two teams in front of the Yankees when talking about our lead.[/quote']

Haha, me too.

Ortiz is getting the game off today. Here are the lineups:

Rangers:

Lofton CF

Young SS

Teixeira 1B

Sosa RF

Catalanotto DH

Byrd LF

Kinsler 2B

Laird C

Vazquez 3B

Red Sox:

Lugo SS

Crisp CF

Youkilis 1B

Ramirez LF

Drew RF

Lowell 3B

Varitek C

Hinske DH

Pedroia 2B

I have no idea why Tito didn't put Pena in the DH slot. Absolutely beyond me.

Try and tell me you're not sky high right now Schill.....Was this a great weekend or what? I would have been pleased as all get-out if we could have picked up a game on the Yankees over the weekend but to pick up three???? I know the Texas Rangers are not one of the elite teams in the league but they have plenty of firepower and can cause havoc on a pitching staff and that is why being able to come from behind three times in a row has got to be a tonic for our team. If it isn't they don't have a pulse. Maybe they don't either because they seem to never be worried about anything. I would be the last one to ruin any mojo by saying it but it is just possible this is going to be our year????

It will make it that much harder for them to mount a comeback. It's one thing catching the team in front of you, but vaulting over acouple of other teams first makes things very difficult, and in reality, they are the only team that we need to watch. Knock on wood. I hate making statements like that.

What matters is that we have a 12.5 game lead over the Yankees. That is the AL East. The Jays, Rays, and Orioles don't have a chance of finishing ahead of the Red Sox. They don't matter.

I'm absolutely ecstatic. To sweep a series when the Yankees get swept is absolutely unbelievable. Imagine this, Fred, we have to worry about the Orioles and Blue Jays RIGHT NOW more than the Yankees. That'll change quickly I'm sure, but it's weird to see those two teams closer to our tails than the Yankees, eh?

As of right now two of those teams have a better chance of finishing ahead of the Red Sox than the Yankees do. You're a Red Sox fan. You know better than any other type of fan to never count out the Yankees. However, not counting teams out is not limited to the Yankees.

With a little bit more Yankee slippage and Devil Ray mediocrity, theoretically, we could enter June with the Yankees in last place.

Nothing much for me to say here besides congratulations on a great weekend.

Thanks Yank!!! However, be advised that this Red Sox fan still does not think this thing is over, not by a long shot. What I do like is that with our lead getting wider it does put more pressure on your team to mount a comeback, but I remember back in 1978 when I was NOT a Red Sox fan and called them a pack of losing choke-ups the way they blew a 14game lead from mid July on. It always could happen again. It could happen to anyone and that is why this retired coach still shouts for all to hear "ONE GAME AT A TIME", and I know most of my Red Sox friends here say the same thing. You take away two innings the last two days and Wakefield and Taverez pitched some pretty darn good ball, and it will be nice to get Beckett back in tow soon. Every little bit helps.

I don't know what it is but the Angels really seem to have what it takes to cause your team all sorts of trouble. Amazing how one team can just be a big pain to another club but it seems to happen to a lot of teams. The Blue Jays have been our foil the past two years as I'm sure you know.

Seldini, I would be shocked if it was anybody but the Yankees who will be closest to our tails when the dust starts to settle with a week or two or three. You know what??? I had two feelings about the last Red Sox-Yankee Series. One was that we didn't get swept and the Yankees needed one to really get some momentum while we got the middle game we needed. The second feeling was that this could be the momentum the Yankees needed to make their long awaited move, but it certainly didn't happen this weekend. What I hope does not happen is that Francona starts using those throwaway lineups as he did in the past. He has used his bench wisely this year and our reserves seem stronger than in the past two seasons, but if anything, we should be looking to add to our lead and not subtract from it.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

That's because we're Red Sox fans E.D., and if you don't do the same your confidence level must be out of this planet and a very unusual BoSox man. I have to admit the Yankees are always in my rear view mirror; must be habitual from my younger days in New York when they always seemed to beat my then Brooklyn Dodgers in the WS.

We shouldn't be worrying about the yankees coming in last place, just the Red Sox coming in first.

1978 is something of legend to me since im only 23 but I know too well what happened that year, im still not comfortable at all

It's not a legend to me. I remember it distinctly. I was 13 and full of the naivete and the hope and belief that can only come w/ being that age. (yeah well...I'm still replete w/ the hope and belief...call me a romantic). It's a bedtime story we pass on to our kids. Survival amidst crushing defeat. No retreat...no surrender. Big picture type of life lessons that winning every day and being handed everything everyday will never teach you. Heartache and redemption.

Crap..I'm waxing philosophic again. Look. Thurman Munson ain't walking through that door. Reggie Jackson ain't walking through that door. The pitcher Guidry isn't taking the mound. He's just some old throwback antiquity of times past not very good coach at the moment.

The mythic mystique is missing. This is no 1978 and history is palpable w/ me my friends. I respect it greatly. I know the pain. Been there. Done that. I barely survived 86' and 03'. I won't spit on anyone's grave until they are buried. But, it's a game of nuance and subtle signs. The low murmerings. The electric feel that is just there or just isn't. The intangible and the tangible. For now...it's in our possession. And for just right now, the stars have aligned.

It's the greatest game.

Schill, I'm watching Sunday Night Baseball and it looks like we will have another battle on our hands starting tomorrow. The Cleveland Guardians are aheadd 4-0 and in position to be another road team to sweep a three game series this weekend. Our Red Sox, the Angels, Rockies and now the Guardians might pull such a hat trick, but the Guardians are what concerns me now because they are who we have to take care of next. I hope Curt Schilling has put those two crappy outings behind him and is ready to start acting like the ace he is supposed to be. We really need him to give us a big year.

I also didn't like John Kruk giving us the "checkered flag" on BT before the game and telling all in shouting reach that the AL East race is over. We don't need any of that. One game at a time, right????:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

John Kruk seems to be saying the same thing Crunch so you're not alone in your opinions. I do believe they are missing Sheffield more than they realize and, no, this is not 1978 because for one thing I am a Red Sox fan now and could not endure such a collapse as occurred back them. I also think this year's Red Sox edition are made of sterner stuff. Witness Daisuke on Friday night. He was heaving in the dugout between innings but he gutted it out long enough to keep us ahead and pick up a win in the process. That sort of stuff rubs off on the rest of the team. Today Drew and Varitek got key hits and J.D. had a multi-hit game for the first time in weeks. We need more of that and we need Lugo to start doing his stuff as well. As you know we could still use some improvement because that is the only way you stay on top. However, my friend, I'm still not ready to write off the Yankees are you are. Four more months to go.:D :D :D :D

Exactly Teddy. Exactly. Still, I am always conscious of where the Yankees are at.
