Julian Tavarez - BOS

The Denver Post reports the Rockies have expressed some interest in Julian Tavarez, who is expected to be put on the trade block when Jon Lester returns.

Colorado almost acquired the spot starter/long reliever last year in the Todd Helton discussions.

So, who do you think the Sox can get for him?

hmmm. Julian Tavarez, Mike Lowell, and Manny Delcarmen for Todd Helton, with the Rockies eating a portion of the contract? Mike Lowell had a good season last year with 20HR and 80RBI, and hes off to a great start this year, so I'm not sure I would go through with a trade as above. I don't think there would be anywhere to put Helton with Lowell playing and great and Youk. I don't know whether we could actually get any good value from Tavarez. He should be solid in a great bullpen thus far, and I can't imagine getting something back that would make an impact if we trade him. Interesting though. But I don't like trading pitching, we all know what happened last year.

Where would you put him? Lowell is off to a great start and is gold glove caliber, and you know they want to keep youk playing. So where would you put him? The only thing to do would be move youk to 3rd and have Helton at 1st, but then you weaken the D at 3rd. Just thinking about value, I wouldn't like it. We would be paying more for Helton, and have to deal with his long contract, where Lowell's contract is up after this season. Also, the sox would have to give Col tavarez, probably Lowell, and a prospect. Thats too much for him. He wouldn't be a significant upgrade to Lowell, if an upgrade at all.

where would holliday play though?

That's why I said it's unrealistic. I'm just curious to see how you guys value Holliday. Who would you give up in the Sox organization to obtain the guy if you were interested in him?

I'd give up any package they could want for Holliday, and then I'd trade Manny for some replacements. Holliday is a young stud entering his prime. If we could get Holliday, you make room for him. Period. All that being said, there's no way they trade him.

Tavarez probably couldn't scare up much in trade. Let's be honest about the guy. He's filler in a pitching staff, and people just don't give up much for filler. And, about the Lowell + Tavarez + ________ trade package for Helton, I don't see a fit. Colorado does not need a 3B. Garrett Atkins is better than Mike Lowell now, and younger, cheaper, etc.

That's doable Nate.

I don't see a trade that could help our offense. It seems that the FO wants to keep Crisp in CF, they obviously wont touch Manny or Drew. Lowell is productive and great defensively, so unless your getting an all-star player, forget that spot. You know they don't want to keep Youk in the lineup, theres no open DH spot, Lugo isn't going anywhere, and I am sure they aren't giving up Pedroia/Cora spot at 2nd. So where would you add to the offense. Lets face it, unless we get an all-star for 3rd, 2nd, or CF, we aren't improving our offense. Realistically, were not going to get an all-star player with Tavarez, prospect, _____. And remember, the only way we could trade Lowell is if we get 1B or 3B from a trade. And remember the fact that the Sox are unwilling to part with our pitching "prospects"; a trade ain't going to happen.

Nate,

1. Why would Colorado want or even be willing to take Clement?

2. What the hell are you going to do with Helton? You still have Lowell at 3rd. Unless they then trade Lowell, they got no where to put him. And the fact that our team is clicking and Lowell is off to a great start, I don't see them wanting to trying and do a 3-way trade. It ain't going to happen.

..1. The rest of Clements contract as in the last 4 months(?) of it .

2. Youk would take Hinske's role .

1.Lugo

2.Drew

3.Ortiz

4.Manny

5.Helton

6.Lowell

7.Tek

8.Crisp/Pena

9.Pedroia/Cora

In Hinske's role? Like once every week? Why?

We're not getting Helton.

.. Youk vs Helton, who's better? ..

.. Besides, Youk can play 1b, 3b, LF, RF, and 2b(If needed) ..

The sox are not going to make Youk a utility player. If I were manager, I might be tempted to do that, but there is no way the sox would do that. Youk is their commited 1B right now and he isn't going anywhere, especially not the bench.

But it really is not necessary. Besides, we'd be giving up a decent amount of talent, I highly doubt the Rockies do Tavarez, Clement and Hinske. I just don't think it's worth it.

You wouldn't be able to acquire him in a trade. He's a FA.

So just drop Tavarez all together and sign that guy on. Trade off Cora and Youk. Put Papi at 1st and bring Bonds as the DH.

The biggest question marks in our offense is CF, 2B, SS, and LF (can he stay healthy). They are keeping Coco and with Ellsbury due next season and the great FA market for CF if he stays in the minors. They are sticking with Pedroia and they signed Lugo and Drew to big deals, so they aren't going anywhere. Therefore, we aren't going to improve our offense. If someone goes down for a good portion of the season, then you might see a trade. Otherwise, Forget about it!

I will def be in the minority here, but i wouldn't trade JT. We are counting on Lester coming back and being as good or better than last year...and noone else on the staff going down. I wouldn't trade away JT who has done a good job filling in the #5 spot. When Lester comes back we can use him as long relief, and fill in if someone goes down. Do we really want to backtrack to last year with the likes of Snyder starting if someone goes down?
