Keep beating the dead horse.

Oh BTW.

Over and over again it has been shown he's a league average defensive CF. Or, at least he was when he played there last year. You know, consistent playing time and the like?

An .800 OPS out of a CF is a huge advantage for any team. But, we want to keep trotting out Coco the suckbag because he's fast? Give me a f***ing break.

Also, I love it when you cite "acquaintances" as sources.

Can't call them friends Kilo; I just know them from a sports bar I sometimes frequent when my wife and her friends take the evening off an I'm out of sorts watching TV and want to talk baseball with people in the flesh. And who wants to keep trotting out suckbag Coco? You've read most of my posts; anywhere you got the impression that I am a big Coco booster?

Who do you want in center then?

Give the guy who can produce SOMETHING offensively a shot.

(Hint - It's not Coco)

WMP in CF could be interesting.

It's where he's at his best defensively. I'm willing to give up some defense by benching Coco, but knowing that we have the possibility of a homerun hit into New Hampshire out of the guy at the plate. He hit .333 in limited ABs last year...there's no reason to suggest that given normal playing time he can never figure out a breaking ball. I'd rather watch WMP in CF any day.

The next six games at home??? I want Wily Mo in center. We need some extra hitting and he might just give us some thunder around his plethora of strikeouts. How's that Kilo?

Shut up.

You jump on the bandwagon, on everything. You wanted Larry Bigbie over Pena, you can't not jump back on the Pena bandwagon.

Remember when Fred said, he had always hated Pena?

Pasox, everything you say is correct. Believe it or not, I am not so mad right now as I am numb. Still cannot believe that Francona would bench Pena for Harris since Wily is hitting over 300 with power and improved fielding. I am reading a book right now called "June, 1941---Hitler and Stalin". One chapter is called "Unintended Consequences" I just hope there isn't an unintended consequence of Wily Mo having his confidence shake by his benching tonight. I mean it is not like he was doing poorly; he was doing well. If he can be benched while doing his job well, think of the pressure he will be under if he suddenly has a few bad games. I was down on him early but he has won me over with his play. He ought not to have his confidence shaken.

Dumb f***.

That was last year jerkoff. This is a new year and Pena hasn't done much to warrant any special consideration except for the fact that Crisp is doing worse so why not give him a chance since we have no other options at the present time. You're not very smart, are you? And don't give me any of this bandwagon s***. What I said last year doesn't necessarily holds true for this year. Even an airhead like you ought to underatand that.

You should be asking yourself the same question.

You have assualted Wily Mo Pena, on every occasion. Unfulfilled promise, strikes out too much, inane rambling, etc.

You know, I was reading a book about Operation Barbarossa, and I realized how close the Germans were to taking over Moscow. That's what Wily Mo Pena reminds me off. He'll always be close, but no cigar.

Oh, what's this? Wily Mo Pena is hitting .300?

Staying on topic, Wily Mo reminds me of Marshall Zhukov. He was a gritty warrior, who know what it took to get the job done. Wily Mo is gritty in the fact that he is a great defensive CF, who knows what it takes to make contact with the ball. Cap Anson was another great player from my favorite team the Chicago White Stockings. His career average was .333, like Wily Mo's. Knew what it took to win, like Zhukov

Your retort to me is exactly what I mean about many Red Sox fans who get intrigued when Pena goes deep and helps win a game. The reasoning is that it is just a matter of time before Wily Mo starts doing that on a regular basis. Sorry' date=' it doesn't work that way, hasn't worked for him, and won't work that way for us. His power is a tease that will eventually be seen for what it is-----promise unfulfilled.[/quote']

Do I get intrigued when a guy, without regular playing time, can hit a fastball further than anyone else in the game? Yes. Do I get intrigued when I see, in a string of 4 or 5 straight games, plate discipline improving and, thusly, an increase in the number of quality at-bats? Yup.

SBF...if we could juggle our outfield around and get Adam Dunn to play for us, would you take it? You'd better. And we have a potential Adam Dunn-like player on our hands for cheap and we're keeping him on the bench and not letting him develop. I'm not saying Pena WILL be Dunn, but let's assume he's even 3/5ths the player that Dunn is...that's still 30 HRs a year.

Pena is never going to be guy who doesn't strike out. He's going to swing often, he's going to swing hard, and he's going to swing and miss often. At the same rate...I'll take a guy who goes 4-16 with a HR and 5 Ks every four days which is not out of the realm of possibilities by any means I don't think.

Wow, I laughed harder at these than I have at a post in quite some time. You guys are really cracking me up lately.

SoxNation, right now to get some punch in CF I would be more than willing to give Pena a shot for a couple of weeks out there even though I'm not a Pena man as you might know. Crisp has been horrid and we have no other options right now, so, why not. Tonight especially since we have Mirabelli in the lineup we need all the firepower we can get. I hope Pena plays, does well, and makes me eat my words.

Hold on, I'm getting a message from the Semen right now.

HORSN, Adam Dunn and Wily Mo remind me of myself when I was their age. Always striking out! Wily Mo and Dunn miss baseballs, I missed with the ladies. They connect with the long ball occasionally, and I can't unless I get help with the blue pill. I'm a wily veteran, but I went to a strip bar the other day, and as I was watching this crying stripper blue ball me, it reminded me of Wily Mo Pena. My blue balls are like Wily Mo. Never connecting with the big fly, and the stripper was Red Sox Nation. Which I am a big supporter of, when I'm not rooting for the Dodgers, or the A's, or the Giants....

I can respect that...I was kind of the same way with Pedroia this year. I didn't think he could do it and (thus far), he's made me eat my words.

Crunch, will you tell me why we even had to resurrect this thread in the first place? Coco Crisp seems to have turned his offensive game around and now there is no need to belabor this Wily Mo thread anymore; is there? When Crisp was sucking up the joint I would have gladly given Pena or anyone a chance to give us an extra bat in the outfield, even whaleass Hinskie, but I don't think that's the problem now. We need another starting pitcher and Francona to finally and utterly get Lugo out of shortstop for awhile.

Oh well, we can hope our moderators to close this thread because it has been become apparent that we aren't going to be able to trade this guy and the only recourse is to put up with him until Epstein finally realizes his mistakes and releases the wondrous Wily Mo. It is surprising that Pena even has supporters left on this board; then, again, considering who they are, not really that surprising.

To those who are pining for Bronson arroyo...could you please take a look at his stats this year?

And tell me how they would translate to the ALE?

And tell me why we'd want him on our team then?

its starting to be more and more of a lose-lose trade depending on what, if anything, we'd ever be able to get for Pena in a deal. NL hitters look like they've figured out Arroyo pretty well and Cincy is starting to look real dumb for giving him that extension

He's having a tough year, no doubt, but I don't think anyone is "pining" for him.

He was good last year and he was solid (solid in #4 starter terms) with the Sox up to the time of the trade. Personally I've maintained that AT THE TIME OF THE TRADE, the move was poor...an innings eating, 180k, 15-12 kinda guy for a 4th OF who can't hit a major league curveball to save his life.

While Arroyo's results this year make the deal look "less bad" I don't think WMP has done anything to influence a change in heart about that trade.

anyone else think that arroyo wouldve won last nites game??

kason gabbards 1st inning may have been the most disgraceful effort of the year

but then jd drew left 7 f***ing runners on base in a 1 run game to trump the 3bbs and hbp that gabbard gave us in the 1st...

last year the deal was made as our pitching staff resembled walter reed medical center and we still held 1st place for 3 months.

what you saw last nite happened every 5 days last year

do you not remember this??

No, he would have allowed 12 baserunners in six innings, which would have gotten a thumbs up from Mr. Crunchy.

Tell me, are you always this frequently wrong?

.301/.349/.489

Those were his numbers when he played full time. A guy like Pena is not a bench player.

A 200 IP guy with a 89 ERA+, and a 1.52 WHIP

f***ing splendid. I love this guy.

Does Anyone think Theo will pull off a blockbuster deal at the deadline that Includes WMP or Coco for starting pitcher?
Posted

ya

crespo does

minnesota is trying to give us johan santana for pena but theo is holding out for liriano too

i see you put together some interesting stats for pena that make him look palatable..

problem with crespo's math is its cherry picked from a different time and place and holds absolutley no merit in the real world.

i suppose if i select the proper games i can make jd drew look like a wise investment as well

jd drew.....

that jd drew is money too but thats another stupid argument i will avoid today...

problem we have is reality and the rest of the leagues ability to deal in it.

223 .388 48 103 14 23 40 5 0 4 11 10 40 0 1 3

despite little caesars creative math

this is the reality

103abs 40ks 4hrs and 11rbi while hitting .223,up from last weeks .218

so you tell me

what does this get you for trade material??

i'll be serious

i suppose you could package him with a young arm instead of one of the younger outfielders that the rest of the league are eyeballing?

perhaps a team that is willing to give him an unconditional shot at achieving??

contending teams wont take him in the nl cause he's a f***ing disaster in the field

al teams contending already have their softball players in place,i dont see anyone in contention looking at this guy seriously.

perhaps kc or a tampa bay type of team that needs young cheap guys and arent concerned with winning would take him.

theres no argument about his power

rick lancelotti type power for sure...

im done with wmp

i hope he goes on a tear so we can use him in right field, the **** currently patroling right is ovulating this week so look for him to be on the pine for the weekend...

:wtf:

Those stats are when Pena was a full time player for the Red Sox in 2006. Some players are better when they get four AB's per game, those same players are terrible pinch hitters. Given Pena's all or nothing approach, there's really no surprise his numbers are suffering.
